There's going to be more high performance Chevies (Including the Caprice next year which is based on the G8), go-fast Buicks, even RWD Cadillacs within 2-3 years. Buicks are FWD, yes. but any performance version will be AWD (most likely using the Haldex system that transfers torque to any wheel), which is better than RWD. And the Caprice will be here next year as a police application, and is being considered for retail sale (to the public) so don't just completely rule them out... yet. lol
Yup, the Lumina is a G8 with chevy badges, but we're not getting that :( And the G8's main competition is the Charger... that's basically it. It's not a segment they *need* to focus on as much as, say- more mainstream cars. Cars like the Malibu, Cruze, Regal, CTS, ATS, Equinox etc are the cars that are more important right now.
Lies, I have a SAAB 900SE, there were 2 versions of it made. The 2.0 liter original I4 version and the 2.5 liter V6 GM version. I have the original version and it has double the power, double the tork and double the fuel economy of the GM version, and im not blowing steam thats a fact.

GM sold 156,000 vehicles under this program and only 1 was returned. That vehicle was returned for another GM vehicle. GM has allot to prove, give them some credit at least they are trying.

build quality = quality vehicles. my 2006 silverado was built in texas. 60,000 miles later it still drives, rides, and looks like new. the only replacement parts were tires, carpet, and the climate control. i needed tires because i had nails stuck in my tires from driving through a construction zone. my truck was broken into on a rainy night and my interior started to smell like a wet dog. my climate control was dropped while installing my bluetooth unit and two of the leds inside busted.

Look at the Cadillac CTS-V vs. BMW M5. Both cars engineered and built similarly, but they're both worlds apart.
Several auto reviewers complained about the rear pillar intruding in the rear passenger's headroom, making for an uncomfortable ride.
Even the "Cadillac" parts used are fom different cheaper cars, but now use special adapters so you can't cheapo the repairs. You have to order "Cadillac" parts, which cost the same as a 5 series BMW.
The 6.2 liter engine they use creates different horsepowers for different cars. 650hp for the Corvette ZR-1, 414hp for the Camaro, and 300hp for the Chevy Silverado. Chrysler's 6.1 in the Dodge Challenger's only creates 425hp.

The Toyota Tundra has a way better engine than any gasoline chevy.
Your 295hp 5.3 truck seems like its way underpowered when compared to the Tundra's 381hp 5.7, even the new Vortec 6.0 makes 14 less horespower and 26 less ft/lbs and its a bigger engine.

I understand your point. But the reason why they did have to go bankrupt was because they were spending alot of money on R&D, while paying out huge sums of money to union workers. Both combined, makes for a lot of debt. Just about every car in their company has a 5 star crash test or higher, it wouldn't be that way if they spent no money on R&D.
There are many other cars that have far better safety ratings. Anyone can score a good rating on a full sized truck or SUV. The small cars and crossovers is really the true challenge. And most of the deal with GM almost going bankrupt had to do in relation with poor executive management. Other cars companies were doing just fine unitill just now. Even so they are hanging in there far better.

Oh come on. They still have the CTS (especially the V), Camaro, Corvette and much more to come. There's going to be more high performance Chevies (Including the Caprice next year which is based on the G8), go-fast Buicks, even RWD Cadillacs within 2-3 years. They killed the G8- so what? it happens. It got virtually no sales. it was introduced in the middle of a gas crisis (remember $4.50 a gallon?) nobody wanted cars like it at the time. It wasn't a "brain-dead" decision...

The Camaro and especially the Corvette aren't quite as practical as a four door.
A "performance" Buick isn't so if it's wrong wheel drive.
About the only thing that would work out is if Chevy does bring the Caprice from the Middle East to the U.S.

I agree, the G8 was nice and I was angry that it went, but GM has so much more in store that you'll forget all about it.
Buicks are FWD, yes. but any performance version will be AWD (most likely using the Haldex system that transfers torque to any wheel), which is better than RWD. And the Caprice will be here next year as a police application, and is being considered for retail sale (to the public) so don't just completely rule them out... yet. lol

Yup, the Lumina is a G8 with chevy badges, but we're not getting that :( And the G8's main competition is the Charger... that's basically it. It's not a segment they *need* to focus on as much as, say- more mainstream cars. Cars like the Malibu, Cruze, Regal, CTS, ATS, Equinox etc are the cars that are more important right now.

Maybe you need to point the finger a little further. GM opened several plants in Mexico, so did Honda. Many of the "Japanese" vehicles are assembled there. Straighten out your cost per unit structure, renegotiate your contracts to make yourselves potentally profitable, (you know , the reason you are in business for), and make cars that your consumers want, EV-2 perhaps? You could be in Toyota's #1 shoes (Prius) right now, If you had not killed the EV-1 and it had advanced it till now. Don't tell me that having the EV-1 and then killing it gave you tecknology for the Volt.

build quality = quality vehicles. my 2006 silverado was built in texas. 60,000 miles later it still drives, rides, and looks like new. the only replacement parts were tires, carpet, and the climate control. i needed tires because i had nails stuck in my tires from driving through a construction zone. my truck was broken into on a rainy night and my interior started to smell like a wet dog. my climate control was dropped while installing my bluetooth unit and two of the leds inside busted.

Several auto reviewers complained about the rear pillar intruding in the rear passenger's headroom, making for an uncomfortable ride.

The M5 was primarily based on the 5 series, but all the 5 series was designed for 140mph (5 series top speeds) crashes.
Since BMW knew the M5 was taking off, just like the M3, they modified the body chassis to withstand 180 to 200mph smashes.
The first CTS-V have problems with its rear differential. Through internal documents, General Motors KNEW it would be an issue, but used them anyways.

Even the "Cadillac" parts used are fom different cheaper cars, but now use special adapters so you can't cheapo the repairs. You have to order "Cadillac" parts, which cost the same as a 5 series BMW.
The 6.2 liter engine they use creates different horsepowers for different cars. 650hp for the Corvette ZR-1, 414hp for the Camaro, and 300hp for the Chevy Silverado. Chrysler's 6.1 in the Dodge Challenger's only creates 425hp.

The Toyota Tundra has a way better engine than any gasoline chevy.
Your 295hp 5.3 truck seems like its way underpowered when compared to the Tundra's 381hp 5.7, even the new Vortec 6.0 makes 14 less horespower and 26 less ft/lbs and its a bigger engine.

I understand your point. But the reason why they did have to go bankrupt was because they were spending alot of money on R&D, while paying out huge sums of money to union workers. Both combined, makes for a lot of debt. Just about every car in their company has a 5 star crash test or higher, it wouldn't be that way if they spent no money on R&D.

There are many other cars that have far better safety ratings. Anyone can score a good rating on a full sized truck or SUV. The small cars and crossovers is really the true challenge. And most of the deal with GM almost going bankrupt had to do in relation with poor executive management. Other cars companies were doing just fine unitill just now. Even so they are hanging in there far better.

Of course, but the most expensive cost to making a new car is materials. The steel, plastics, rubber etc.. Keep in mind though , not all steel is the same, not all plastic is the same and not all rubber is the same.
Whereas Lexus uses high quality steel, plastics, rubbers; GM does not and thats the difference. GM has cut the standards of materials in order to improve what they thought was their profit margin. However all it really did was put them a bad financial position.

The reason why GM went bankrupt, and honda isn't is because of unions, not quality dumb ass. GM sells more cars then honda in the US, and globally. GM's gross income is higher then Honda's. This where Honda pulls away. GM has to pay their workers $40/hour, two weeks vacation, pentions, health care for their whole family, and GM spends more on parts. Honda has none of that, they pay their workers $17/hour, with no benefits. Thats why they Net out higher, and in return have bigger profit margin.
