The Great Thomas Jefferson said all one needs to know about Plato's Republic. "While wading through the whimsies, the puerilities and unintelligible jargon of this work, I laid it down often to ask myself how it could have been, that the world should have so long consented to give reputation to such nonsense as this? Fashion and authority apart, and bringing Plato to the test of reason, take from him his sophisms, futilities and incomprehensibilities, and what remains?"
Well the most pertinent thought in PLato's Politeia is about the path from anarchy to tyrany. Desorder leads to excess of order. POINT! Freedom is the respect of rights to do what you want as you respect dignity of others. But if you delete law there are no freedoms anymore because no one has to respect others! & let's get forwards: If you possess ressources from a large area where some people live, as a free man you can't make anything with these resources bcause the people life depends on it!

I don't know if "Republic" is a good translation of the dialogue's title. The original name is politeia (πολιτεία) which means a political society and does not necessarily imply democratic elements. Polity or State could be a better translation.
@eddwinnrr Your right, Plato didnt call it "The Republic", Cicero did when he brought it to the latin word. The original title was Politeia, which can mean a variety of things, primarily, City, or City-state. Commonwealth is just as much of a stretch as Republic, if not more, for "Commonwealth" implies a country of greater size and numerous demographics, as opposed to just a Politeia, or city.
Last thing and I will go. Remember that the "Republic," the city or society being put together in this dialectic is simply an example of the individual sould being placed under a philosophical microscope, poetically. Hate me or not. Read it again more closely with all this in mind and see what you get.
In addition to my previous comment, one must also bare in mind that Plato was a poet before and after he became a philosopher, so you cannot take everything that he says litterally. And yes, he did give politics a shot later in his life, and he failed I might add. But that in no way proves that his philosophical works were about politics. Baring my last comment in mind, some things are litteral, some not, some both. Sometimes there are allusions to other things, like the actual topic! Be careful
I really hate to play Socrates here, but the makers of this video fail, as many people do, to bare in mind that at the very outset of the Republic in book 1 it is explicitly stated that this is not a political discourse, but it is rather an inquiry into (i) the nature of justice, (ii) the makeup and essence of the individual soul (not the state), and (iii) whether it is better for the individual to live according to justice (correct ordering of the soul) or to live a life of injustice. Read on!
@crystalcalia You are right, but in a Republic there could be democracy, but it would be more of a democracy with evidence, or a skeptic democracy that's under control by justice(by true justice).
@Audi100 Hi There mate democracy is by western values acredited to the greeks as the bases of democracy lol, but this is not true they used and adapted it from other cultures and it is suggested by a author called Keane as the orgins are other 4000years before in the region of the eupthraites modern iraq, sorry for spelling lol
i believe plato's republic could be a reality if its possible that one man could believe that way its possible for any body i dont believe its human nature to keep on the path we have if a man like plato would strive for this world is that not the human nature of that man
females hate men because in the womb both sexes have the same starter kit up until when the penis and testicles fall away from the females due to genetic weakness which is the reason why females have "penis envy". The great genius Plato had knowledge of this phenomena ages before modern medical science confirmed it. Plato theorized that there really was nothing mysterious about females after the recognition was made that all of them fall under the category of castrated males.

The original title is ΠΟΛΙΤΕΙΑ ( POLITEIA ) and the right translation
is City or City-state. The title ''Republic'' is absolutely wrong.
