I think these were the ones tht were hard plastic with holes in them that whistled when you swung it. I remember seeing one at SEARS when I was a kid for aournd $30 (a fortune in 1978). My dad took a plastic tube from his golf clubs, glued it to the inside of a flashlight cylidner and spray painted it blue. It was the envy of every kid in my neighborhood.

They never did come out with a blue one. They started off with yellow and red, then after "Jedi" a green one. I guess blue plastic must have been hard to come by in the early 80's.

Those light sabers back in the day were far better than the collapsable cup-style ones that the kids have today. Yeah, they could break easy, but still there were a lot better.

Back in the day "The Force" lightsabre was just a cheap hollow plastic tube which easily broke if applied enough force (no pun intended) to the blow, just as smacking the thing against brick or concrete.
