She introduced him to cows and he was absolutely terrified. She started working him in western pleasure and brought him to 4-h county show and he was pinning up ribbons like you wouldnt believe. You are certainly not a horse person. I suggest you shut your mouth.

There are good trainers and bad trainers. Trainers that push their horse to the point of exhaustion and break them down are obviously bad trainers.

Trainers that try a discipline out on a horse and doesnt work they will move on to another. I know a girl in 4-H that bought a barrel/cow horse prospect.

Maneater-You are wrong. If the horses didn't love what they were trained to do they wouldn't do it. It's that simple. Thoroughbreds are born to race. Its in their blood. Most western pleasure horses move b/c they naturally move slow. Movements and disciplines can be inherited or taught to a horse. Whether they are talented in it or not is determined how they do in competition.

I've been training my horse in reining since summer and i've been doing it the natural way maneater...with parelli actually. By naturally I mean physically, emotionally, and mentally.

maneater96, your just dumb, reining is wonderful sport, it has it's downfalls, like every other sport, but c'mon! I ride my reiner english, I've jumped her, she goes on trail rides, and I know a lot of other people who rein to that to. A good reiner loves to do it. Your just....a dumbass.

English is the way i ride, but i would love to learn western, I am a huge racing fan and i wish people would stop knocking it, i could say alot of bad things about western but im not going to so dont keep putting down my sport.

Some you city-slicker know it alls need to shut up. Reining is an awesome sport that shows the true beauty and horsemanship of these Western type horses. All those horses enjoy what they're doing if they didn't they wouldn't be the best of the best.

And if you think Reining is abusive you might want to check out Horse Racing where a lot of horses are ran until they break down. Each industry has the idiots who do it for the money, but you know what it's the same in every Industry.

Some western pleasure horses are push button and look terrible. I'm a mainly western rider, western pleasure, but I do however, show in HUS and others. My best friend owns a couple of top reining horses, they are not brought out of their stalls just to be shown and be a "money maker". Some show jumpers hate to jump and are in pain, throw their heads up, trying to tell the rider they don't want to do that anymore, but the rider keeps pushing them. Don't say stuff that you can't prove.

Reining is torture for horses?What a stupid comment to make.There are good trainers and bad trainers in any discipline.Performance horses are equine athletes and a good horseman knows when his horse needs a spell.I suggest you get turned out to pasture to mellow a bit and maybe learn something before putting your foot in your mouth.

Steeple Chasing horses fall down all the time and die in front of you just for money. Thoroughbred racers run and run until they brake something because their riders and owners work them to hard.

Wow, really people, don't say anything about a disipline you don't know about at all. Not all reining is horrible. Sure, some reining horse owners only bought their horse for money, to win, but you could say the same thing about show jumping, dressage, et cetera.

Oh I still stand by my statement.It is ALL about ego and how anyone can be impressed by the training of these horses is beyond me.The horses come out of thier stalls for more repetitive training,so they can perform the same moves over and over and over again.Natural?I don't think so.The only relief those horses get is after death.But I can't save the world and certainly not those horses.I can only be satisfied that my own horse lives a very pleasant life.Not tortured physically and mentally.

I don't like reining moves much, since I'm a classic rider, but it's just amazing how these horses are trained ! I can see it how much work it take, and I don't think that I realise it. Well, just like all discipline in the equestrian world ;)

What are you talking about? Reining is really no different than dressage. Its going at a certain gait, in a certain pattern. Its like a beautiful dance, and most horses enjoy it.

What a crock. These horses are true elite athletes and are born to do this, its in their blood. Anyone who has ever saw foals playing in a field has saw them all do these same manuvers -- running, sliding and changing directions. Reining just channels those prey responses natural in all horses to perform them when asked. As far as them being abused, that is a total crock. These horses are celebrities in their own right and are pampered to the extreme; actually live better lives tham many humans.
