It doesn't matter what nationality or person sings these songs, this musical is classical - I get goose bumps everytime I hear the songs. I wish they would do a revival of it on Broadway.

Part 9- BIG MAMA needs alot of work! But if a no talent, go-go dancer like Britney Spears can get hits or a not-so-great singer (and non-dancer) like Rhianna can do well- then BIG MAMA has a shot. BUT they will have to be more ORIGINAL (being asian doesn't count) and work on improving their vocals and getting better original, english, song!
Part 8- She worked on her craft and created a more ORIGINAL sound for herself. She worked as a back up singer (where your face + race are not seen- just quality of voice) and she joined a group called the BLACK EYED PEAS.

Part 7- BIG MAMA is about as good as the 90's group WILD ORCHID. WILD ORCHID also had talented singers who - sadly- relied on their race/looks as a gimmick. The group imitated every old andnew black female artist they could and got attention for being NOT BLACK. It wa a shame because they did have some god singer, but no orginality and their gimmicky success stopped them fro improving. Only one member of WILD ORCHID decided to be more than just a racial gimmick.
bigmama is not trying to sound like black singers. they give off that vibe because they used to be big, have deep voices and happen to sing R&B. sure they did lots of covers of songs done by african american artists, but it was because the company wanted that concept in the beginning. (which they had no control over) listen to their album before you criticize. they definitely have their own style going on.
Oh come on! Their style is almost entirely black. They don't sing in BIG OPERA voice. They dont sing in BIG country voices. The novelty IS that they are asian women who can sound like black R&B or gospel singers.
THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH THAT! I never said there was! I said that being praised TOO much for doing it can hold you back from developing your own voice and getting good enough to succeed WORLDWIDE! I use WILD ORCHID as example. Only Fergie (who worked to be unique) survived.
asian women that can sound like black <--- this isn't the focus of bigmama. their focus was valuing talent more than the looks. you keep saying that they're imitating, or that they want to sound black based on these covers, and some of their early title tracks. all I'm saying is that don't judge them by these. their solo tracks reflect them well. they were trained all over the world, and they have their own voices.
Part 5- They need to get someone to write them a GOOD english speaking song! That is how Latin artists crossed over! Latin artist used to sing just in Spanish. That appealed to latin listeners, but the artist rarely got hits in US or Europe. Then latin singers tried to cross over by RE-DOING American song or styles. This resulted in failures or one hot wonders. Now most latin aritist get great songwriters to write them catchy ORIGINAL songs in english and in spanish. Result! Success!!
Part 4- To be a great singer + make it in the international music industry, you have to have your own voice. If not, you wont succeed outside of your niche or you'll be a 1 hit wonder.
If you truly love this group- criticize them! Help them improve on the talent they have (talent you can hear BETTER when they sing their own songs or in korean)! They should not sing OTHER ARTISTS songs! It sounds like they listened to top 40 or R&B -over and over- until they could repeat it all- phonetically.
please get to know them better before you criticize. obviously you only saw them on youtube of doing some covers from a tv show. listen to their solo songs where you get to know who they are. lee ji young and shin yun ah are jazz singers, and lee young hyun is a strong ballad singer. park minhye is versatile and has a bit of gospel tone in her voice. they write their own solo songs and you'll realize they have their own voice.
Jazz and Gospel are not traditional asian singing styles. Does that mean that asians or whites CAN'T sing them? Absolutely NOT! They can! My comment has always been that when non-blacks sing in this style they sometimes imitate instead of developing their own style and that their fans sometime keep them from developing by saying "You're wonderful!! Youre the best!" Just because they are happy to see someobne who looks like them ( or is just NOT black) singing that way.
Part 3- Again "covering" a song does not mean singing it EXACTLY the way others did. That is imitation or impersonation! Example: Patti Labelle COVERED "Over the Rainbow" from The Wizard of OZ. So did Eva Cassidy (see Youtube). But NEITHER one SANG it like Judy Garland. PLEASE YOU TUBE ALL 3 versions! Their are MEN in Las Vegas who sing EXACTLY like Judy Garland and Patti Labelle in the stage acts. These men are called impersonators! They aren't covering these songs.

It is not a crime to cover a song or even to sing like someone else. I never said it was! I said there is no real talent in just imitating others. You have to take the talent you have and build something of your own. Fans can sometimes hold you back.

the third girl that sings with the short hair has MAJOR pitch problems YIKES... they sound like they're singing the songs phonetically... as in they learned the words but don't actually speak english... funny
2 .. I think their English is pretty good, especially on their X'mas album. You could tell they really worked on their pronunciation. Let's see those complaining about non-English speakers' pronuciation sing in another language. It's so easy to just sit back and criticize. Besides, music is universal. They don't need perfect pronunciation to show that they're great singers.

To Minhhiep87- you are wrong. A "cover" IS a redo of the song- NOT THE VOCALS.That's an imitation. Alien Ant Farm "covered" Michael Jackson's SMOOTH CRIMINAL. Mariah Carey "covered" Jackson 5's I'LL BE THERE. Neither artist tried to sound exactly like Michael Jackson.

Mmmmh, I don't think so. Everything is choreographed by a pro, if you want it to sell. I don't think Big Mama does stuff on the cheap(doing it themselves). It's not good marketing. True, they are not a dance group, but I think they can really shake it, if they really wanted to.
Me they to see the human documentary where they come out idea carried through their choreographies oneself. And also part of their choreography the part from different music to use changing and it is the choreography which young-hyun Lee(bigmama's member) devises from this music.

Part 9- BIG MAMA needs alot of work! But if a no talent, go-go dancer like Britney Spears can get hits or a not-so-great singer (and non-dancer) like Rhianna can do well- then BIG MAMA has a shot. BUT they will have to be more ORIGINAL (being asian doesn't count) and work on improving their vocals and getting better original, english, song!

Part 8- She worked on her craft and created a more ORIGINAL sound for herself. She worked as a back up singer (where your face + race are not seen- just quality of voice) and she joined a group called the BLACK EYED PEAS.

Part 7- BIG MAMA is about as good as the 90's group WILD ORCHID. WILD ORCHID also had talented singers who - sadly- relied on their race/looks as a gimmick. The group imitated every old andnew black female artist they could and got attention for being NOT BLACK. It wa a shame because they did have some god singer, but no orginality and their gimmicky success stopped them fro improving. Only one member of WILD ORCHID decided to be more than just a racial gimmick.

bigmama is not trying to sound like black singers. they give off that vibe because they used to be big, have deep voices and happen to sing R&B. sure they did lots of covers of songs done by african american artists, but it was because the company wanted that concept in the beginning. (which they had no control over) listen to their album before you criticize. they definitely have their own style going on.

Oh come on! Their style is almost entirely black. They don't sing in BIG OPERA voice. They dont sing in BIG country voices. The novelty IS that they are asian women who can sound like black R&B or gospel singers.
THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH THAT! I never said there was! I said that being praised TOO much for doing it can hold you back from developing your own voice and getting good enough to succeed WORLDWIDE! I use WILD ORCHID as example. Only Fergie (who worked to be unique) survived.

asian women that can sound like black <--- this isn't the focus of bigmama. their focus was valuing talent more than the looks. you keep saying that they're imitating, or that they want to sound black based on these covers, and some of their early title tracks. all I'm saying is that don't judge them by these. their solo tracks reflect them well. they were trained all over the world, and they have their own voices.

Part 5- They need to get someone to write them a GOOD english speaking song! That is how Latin artists crossed over! Latin artist used to sing just in Spanish. That appealed to latin listeners, but the artist rarely got hits in US or Europe. Then latin singers tried to cross over by RE-DOING American song or styles. This resulted in failures or one hot wonders. Now most latin aritist get great songwriters to write them catchy ORIGINAL songs in english and in spanish. Result! Success!!

Part 4- To be a great singer + make it in the international music industry, you have to have your own voice. If not, you wont succeed outside of your niche or you'll be a 1 hit wonder.
If you truly love this group- criticize them! Help them improve on the talent they have (talent you can hear BETTER when they sing their own songs or in korean)! They should not sing OTHER ARTISTS songs! It sounds like they listened to top 40 or R&B -over and over- until they could repeat it all- phonetically.

please get to know them better before you criticize. obviously you only saw them on youtube of doing some covers from a tv show. listen to their solo songs where you get to know who they are. lee ji young and shin yun ah are jazz singers, and lee young hyun is a strong ballad singer. park minhye is versatile and has a bit of gospel tone in her voice. they write their own solo songs and you'll realize they have their own voice.

Jazz and Gospel are not traditional asian singing styles. Does that mean that asians or whites CAN'T sing them? Absolutely NOT! They can! My comment has always been that when non-blacks sing in this style they sometimes imitate instead of developing their own style and that their fans sometime keep them from developing by saying "You're wonderful!! Youre the best!" Just because they are happy to see someobne who looks like them ( or is just NOT black) singing that way.

Part 3- Again "covering" a song does not mean singing it EXACTLY the way others did. That is imitation or impersonation! Example: Patti Labelle COVERED "Over the Rainbow" from The Wizard of OZ. So did Eva Cassidy (see Youtube). But NEITHER one SANG it like Judy Garland. PLEASE YOU TUBE ALL 3 versions! Their are MEN in Las Vegas who sing EXACTLY like Judy Garland and Patti Labelle in the stage acts. These men are called impersonators! They aren't covering these songs.

bigmama pretty much sticked to the melody here. but even then, because they have different training than black artists, they sound different. their vibrato is different, and the type of voice they use is different. it only sounds black because of their unusual deep voices.

It's ok to be proud of your own culture or race and to root for them. But OUTSIDE of that fan base- it's not enough. They will be compared to those with more talent. the third girl that sings with the short hair has MAJOR pitch problems YIKES... they sound like they're singing the songs phonetically... as in they learned the words but don't actually speak english... funny

they were born and rasied in korea, obviously they won't pronounce everything perfectly.

2 .. I think their English is pretty good, especially on their X'mas album. You could tell they really worked on their pronunciation. Let's see those complaining about non-English speakers' pronuciation sing in another language. It's so easy to just sit back and criticize. Besides, music is universal. They don't need perfect pronunciation to show that they're great singers.

it's fine if you don't think they're talented. you're entitled to your opinion after all, but to pick on their pronouciation is kind of petty and close-minded. American music is so influential that it's performed all over the world in all kinds of accents. if you think their pronounciation is bad, just wait until you hear some Japanese singers. what does it matter though? you're not their target audience and music needs no translation.

Please don't send me nasty comments(about old posts)+ block my response. Ive been fair. I said they have talent,but are locked in a gimmick (asian women singing non-traditionally). To Minhhiep87- you are wrong. A "cover" IS a redo of the song- NOT THE VOCALS.That's an imitation. Alien Ant Farm "covered" Michael Jackson's SMOOTH CRIMINAL. Mariah Carey "covered" Jackson 5's I'LL BE THERE. Neither artist tried to sound exactly like Michael Jackson.

this also is a cover. it's just that bigmama and dreamgirls are singers in the same genre.(unlike the artists you've mentioned)
and when they are, you can't help sounding similar. for example, leona lewis doing a cover of mariah song sounds almost the same because they both are r&b/pop singers. but you can't say leona doesn't have true talent.

they are not locked in a gimmick. They sang this at 'Yoon's love letter', a show where singers do performances that they normally don't do. (usually covers) this was just a short thank you performance they did for their fans, and you're saying that they don't have true talents just based on this performance? If you listen to their album, they definitely have their own style. each of them are so different from each other. you should leave them alone if you haven't listened to their songs.

You should have an affection for the group, but don't let that love keep the group from seeing its faults and correcting them. That is how you grow and get people who used to NOT like you to change their minds.
I have listened to other BIGMAMA videos (as I said in earlier posts). I know the group has talent!!

What are you arguing about? I said nothing nasty about BigMama. Stop posting/email me! I explained my OLD comments+ gave suggestions to improve on their talent (WHICH I REPEATEDLY SAID THEY HAVE)! You want blind worship of BIGMAMA. But they will not make it beyond where they are now without changes.
AGAIN- look at the female musical group- WILD ORCHID-on YouTube.
They got attention for a short time. Then failed when novelty (they're white) wore off. Only the unique +talented FERGIE survived.

Let's get it straight, you clearly said that bigmama didn't have TRUE TALENT the first time you commented, and then later changed your words. Obviously fans will get offended. nobody's blind worshiping here. this was one short cover bigmama did, and just because it was similar to the original, bigmama didn't deserve a comment like that. plus it was arranged/sung differently than the original too. so it was rude of you to leave a comment like that. the responses u got weren't uncalled for.

I LOVE BIG MAMA!!!! like we already know that they are skilled professional powerful magnificent singers BUT everytime you listen to them, it makes you say WOW again and again no matter how many you see them!!

As far as I know,bigmama have no choreographer... the dance is bigmama's own work. because bigmama is not a dance gruop but vocal group.

Mmmmh, I don't think so. Everything is choreographed by a pro, if you want it to sell. I don't think Big Mama does stuff on the cheap(doing it themselves). It's not good marketing. True, they are not a dance group, but I think they can really shake it, if they really wanted to.

Me they to see the human documentary where they come out idea carried through their choreographies oneself. And also part of their choreography the part from different music to use changing and it is the choreography which young-hyun Lee(bigmama's member) devises from this music.

Theyre imitating. Thats a different talent.They have to sing on their own. Their own voices,their own style+ original songs. That PROVES true talent! I can imitate Barbara Streisand. That doesn't make me a truly good singer. These girls have ability. They just have to develop without the novelty of being Asian girls who sing like black women.
BTW- there seems to be alot of men looking for white/asian woman with big voices, big lips, or big behinds!...anything top avoid liking black women.

The last song is their own song, and you can easily tell tht they are one of the best vocal groups ever formed!! it does not take a wise man or a great musician to realize that.and also, not everyone CAN sing songs tht others have already sung and truly make it their own, BUT this group definitely proved tht they CAN. Are you being a racist?? not everyone thinks like that, are you saying that white/asian ppl cannot have big voices,etc or tht all african american ppl have big behinds?

Calm down. I said they have talent,but you GUYS arent being honest. Most of their "specialness" is that they don't sound/sing like MOST people think asian women would. But thats gimmicky. Theyll never make it big unless they improve. They won't improve listening to current fans- who are mostly asians who are thrilled to see asians breaking stereotype. Or non-asian men who are thrilled by "little" asian or white women singing like Aretha or Jennifer Holiday. [BTW- my comment is 2months old]

Music don't have color. If they sing a cover for My heat will go on, they will try to sound like Celine Dion. If they sing You raise me up, Goodbye they will try to sound like that particular artist. It's a cover not a remake. If they sing a trot medley, they will sound like Korean trot singer...
Please don't colorize everything according to your own belief and use that as an excuse to frame these girls.
