  • rip brad

  • I don't know what the top comment is about, nor do I feel like searching, but I thumbed it up. :P

  • i like this better than the original

  • this IS a cover...done BY SUBLIME...the original was from The Melodians

  • It's good, but it needs more xylophone.

  • The words sounded suspiciously from the Bible..after some research I found these verses:

{137:1} By the rivers of Babylon, there we sat down, yea, we wept, when

    we remembered Zion.

{137:4} How shall we sing the LORD’S song in a strange land?

    {94:13} ...for the wicked.

{43:3} ...and carry us away captiv[es into Babylon.]

{19:14} Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be

acceptable in thy sight, O LORD, my strength, and my redeemer.

  • @merissa1408 This is definitely a cover of the 1970 song of the same name by The Melodians (made even more famous in 1978 by Boney M). You ought to change the totally wrong statement in ALL CAPS that you seem so sure of. Do a little research and you'll find out.

  • Encore, encore, encore.

  • Maybe u should change the video description if u don't want ppl to keep telling you that this is a cover song.

  • I AM SUBLIME

  • actually...it is a cover lol

  • this is a cover

  • BOBOBOBOBOBOBOBOBOBOBOBOBOBOBOBO!

    (now like this)

  • In a way it's not a cover cause the lyrics are not the same as Boney M.'s version, but at least it is a sampled song withing this song. So all you niggers shut the fuck up and enjoy regardless.

  • @Harleybear09 The lyrics are actually the same ones used in MANY reggae versions of the song. Boney M.'s version is by far the worst of all available.

  • Lmfao. It's a cover. This is a parable in the Bible. Do some research...

  • @OhMyCawd

    Psalm 137 >>

    King James Version

1By the rivers of Babylon, there we sat down, yea, we wept, when we remembered Zion.

2We hanged our harps upon the willows in the midst thereof.

3For there they that carried us away captive required of us a song; and they that wasted us required of us mirth, saying, Sing us one of the songs of Zion.

4How shall we sing the LORD'S song in a strange land?

  • @Merissa1408. dont listen to haters...this is my fav version of this song cuz u can really hear the different harmonies in the vocals. PLZ dont ever listen to haters..for every 1 hater ther ar a bazillion luvers...we just for get to tell ya thats all...so from all of us luvers THNX! and keep it up

  • most of you are trippin'. it's clear by the comment "this is not a cover" that he meant someone covering the Sublime version of the song. last time i checked, they were no 16 track recording studios in the Holy Land 3000 years ago.

  • Actually this is a fucking cover, I'm pretty sure it was originally done by The MElodians

  • @coldironhands1 This is not a fucking cover if you want to see for yourself buy this song on itunes and it will be the same exact fucking way. And dont call the uploader names, he didnt make this version and its the actual song

  • @coldironhands1 well, it is a cover, but by an official band, who got the rights to re-do it. In fact it was never The Melodians song to begin with, it was originally in psalms, but yes it is a cover by sublime. I'm pretty sure Sublime is bigger than The Melodians anyway, though.

  • @Phatnaru0001 Ahh, gotcha! it sounds so badass

  • i believe that the song ( according to the historical timeline ) was actually written after the jews were liberated from assyrian captivity, but things didnt exactly get better for them after that... but thats a story for another time, anyway sublime was not the first band to do this song, ive heard a few older recordings, but sublime did it best im my personal opinion.

  • yoyoyoyoyoyoyoyoy bababababababababba BRIIIIIIP :D

  • S-SO

    U-U

    B-BELEIVEIN

    L-LOVE

  • Song comes from Psalms chapter 137.....here is the rest....we need a remix....

Psalms 137:7 Remember, O LORD, the children of Edom in the day of Jerusalem; who said, Rase it, rase it, even to the foundation thereof.

Psalms 137:8 O daughter of Babylon, who art to be destroyed; happy shall he be, that rewardeth thee as thou hast served us.

Psalms 137:9 Happy shall he be, that taketh and dasheth thy little ones against the stones.

Esau is the so called whiteman controlling the earth to day!!

  • this song is in psalms i just read some of it and it has some of the same sentences an whatnot, mudman is right about that, how can you not just appreciate the music, stop focusing on the bs an see the truth, this song is about praising God an if you cant do that without talking shit to other people in a comment section on youtube, then dont even listen to this great song

  • actually this was recorded in a basement by some kids......those kids just happened to be sublime!

  • ...wow everyone got pissy just to prove they may know something about a song, too bad not about copy right laws...

  • After months of receiving notifications claiming that I'm an idiot for claiming this is not a cover, I think it's finally time I explain what I meant.

This is not a cover: it was not recorded by any kids sitting in their basements, playing along and singing, hoping for their big break. This may be a cover as far as Sublime goes, I really don't care. It's a great song and I posted it simply to be enjoyed.

To everyone that has called me names for claiming this to be a cover, please find someth

  • @merissa1408 this version is soo good! I can't stop listening. Thanks for uploading it!

  • @merissa1408 it helped me find one that wasn't a bunch of kids, people who want the Boney M version shouldn't go to a video that says sublime

  • @merissa1408 I understood what you meant :)

  • @hello32jes you're a dick.

  • @B00MH0 hah cool bro

  • But of all the versions of this song... Sublime's is the best. :)

  • "Rivers of Babylon" is a rastafarian song written and recorded by Brent Dowe and Trevor McNaughton of the jamaican reggae group The Melodians in 1970.

  • An AWESOME cover!!! : )

  • sublime didn't write this song.

    it's a cover.
