@rljake2 La Cucaracha has many different lyrics and which ones are the original is unknown. Lyrics changed with the politics of the time. The one referencing marijuana is indeed one of the more famous pre-revolution lyrics but doubtful its the original

I haven't seen this in years! I loved Slowpoke's character. I didn't get the "controversy" with these cartoons as a kid. Didn't catch the "marijuana que fumar" part either as a kid. lol I could never catch much of what any of them were saying, tbh.

I love that "I'm hungry" thing. lol And the part I remembered most was his, "I may be slow downstairs in the feets" and how he's fast in the "cabeza". Awesome character.

This is the original uncut cartoon, as evidenced by the humorous reference to "marijuana que fumar" in Slowpoke's singing of "La Cucaracha". Keep in mind it was an inside gag among the WB animators back then, and not meant to offend people of Mexican background (like me) or promote smoking weed. Only those who want to totally legalize cush (which I oppose) who are reading those kind of messages in this cartoon... and IMO are already stoned when watching them.

It should probably have been more offensive to people of Mexican descent if the cartoonists had changed the most common lyrics (there are many different lyrics) of what is a traditional Mexican song. It would very much be like Americans thinking someone using the national anthem in a cartoon about the US was calling us drunks because its melody comes from an old English drinking song. And stoners are, well, stoners. They read into things. It wasn't meant to promote OR offend.
