Whereas most American cartoons have to do the close ups of the 'Kabuto-like' character when things go wrong to try to make the audience feel like they figured it out for themselves when they finally reveal he's a bad guy.

All he said was he couldn't fight in the preliminaries because," The old me just might come out again." Which probably meant that something should've happened, but he kept it under control. Or it should've foreshadowed something hardcore happening in Shippuden. I agree it was annoying how they just completely disregarded the whole situation.
