this video is spot on, your elbows can be used on the collar bones to turn your opponent so there's no need to hold the neck. if you hold the neck your also wasting energy. 2 minutes of actually trying what he's showing you would have you agreeing.
@Skwigle if you cross your fingers its takes a split second longer to transition into a punch or another clinch.. its only a small difference but every bit helps bro
Also, crossing your fingers makes the clinch easier to break. All you really needs to do is gaunt down on their arms, their fingers will separate and you're out.
I know people that say not to interlace your fingers because you will be wearing gloves and it can be very difficult (sometimes impossible depending on some people's hand size), and they always say "Train how you fight". Try not to form bad habits I guess...
to defend against it you would get very close to your opponent while in the clinch so he cant use knee strikes, dip down at your hips, and thrust upwards at his waist. From there you can throw
Then again, when it comes to the sport aspect of muay thai, im not sure if that tactic is legal
You can also crouch while in the clinch and thrust your opponents elbow upwards with your hand/arm while using your hips to thrust upwards for power while moving outside of the clinch to escape

i dont know muay thai but after showing that you grab the crown of the head the rest sinks in. I thought he'd be showing different things to do when you've got someone in the muay thai clinch.

as far as the clinch goes, my muay thai instructor told us not to grip w/ the fingers b/c you can break your fingers when his head snaps back (after you pull it down and knee it)
you do NOT grab the neck i have just come back fron 6 weeks in thailand and the thai's grab the head and use the elbos nipped tight in it gives better control

@Skwigle if you cross your fingers its takes a split second longer to transition into a punch or another clinch.. its only a small difference but every bit helps bro

Also, crossing your fingers makes the clinch easier to break. All you really needs to do is gaunt down on their arms, their fingers will separate and you're out.

I know people that say not to interlace your fingers because you will be wearing gloves and it can be very difficult (sometimes impossible depending on some people's hand size), and they always say "Train how you fight". Try not to form bad habits I guess...

to defend against it you would get very close to your opponent while in the clinch so he cant use knee strikes, dip down at your hips, and thrust upwards at his waist. From there you can throw
Then again, when it comes to the sport aspect of muay thai, im not sure if that tactic is legal
You can also crouch while in the clinch and thrust your opponents elbow upwards with your hand/arm while using your hips to thrust upwards for power while moving outside of the clinch to escape

i dont know muay thai but after showing that you grab the crown of the head the rest sinks in. I thought he'd be showing different things to do when you've got someone in the muay thai clinch.

as far as the clinch goes, my muay thai instructor told us not to grip w/ the fingers b/c you can break your fingers when his head snaps back (after you pull it down and knee it)
