Before i could say anything 2 big fat gyal tek a hold on me! I call for my brother his name bellamy and im is liccle sister wid the name sency! my names angel and im terri! And we all live together in a big family!" ahh tune! I dont know how i remember that I was about 6? xxx

  • An interesting comment from bl4ckjac0bin, which type of Black people were you referring to ??? Curious thou' that tv does not focus on anything like this anymore...If the American influence is rife, it's in the youth of today, and it's the fault of the trendsetters, media and lack of teaching that homegrown is just as good if not better. Amazing how the hip hop culture has an inmense influence here, but not only on the ethnic minorities but also on white society.

  • @jlenoconel I remember this show and you're 100% right why do we always have to follow the bloody Americans!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @justina1934 Well the whole of England follows America now really.

  • thats yolande from eastenders in the back!!

thanx, i never heard of this- it looks really good.

  • Janet Kay looked proper like she had indian in her, i love them kind gyal tho, where've women like that gone nowadays man

  • @Dedokai32 That's being shallow, won't get u anywhere.

  • How was that being shallow? @sweetbutdaring

  • @Dedokai32 because looks don't matter and don't maintain a relationship.

  • The woman in the hat played Yolande in Eastenders.

  • Wheres the next part?

  • Being that I'm an African American I think it is cool to explore the lives of Black Britons. Those wicked accents. GAHHH!!! I want one so bad. Being from South Carolina doesn't give me much culture now does it? :(. For any black brits, how is life in the Britain. Where's your Harlem?

  • ummm... Brixton ?

    Hackney

    Mossside

    Pill

    ?

  • why do you have to be african american why can't you just be american, it's not like you don't belong to american i mean look a obama he's black so be proud.

  • what's wrong with saying your african-american? he is an american of african ancestry. just like a nigerian british/british nigerian person is british of nigerian ancestry.

  • yeah but black british don't say african british they just say british or english or scottish ect.... I just wondered why they always say african american it's not like people can't tell that they are black lol and you don't hear white americans saying european american.

  • What a load of rubbish im half black i've never reffered to myself as african caribbean neither has any of my family mermbers, even my gran who is from south america says shes english. I have a lot of black friends they have never referred to them selves as african caribbean they'll say they are black british but not african caribbean, stop making things up.

  • Comment removed

  • Yeah you are right i did contradict myself a bit there, but in general most people will just say British or English etc.. u very rarely hear someone say black british only usually when they are being very specific and i can personally say that i have never heard any1 call themselves african caribbean and i know a lot of people that are of caribbean decent. My point was americans even mixed americans say african american when infact they are so inter mixed they can say euro american, asian etc.

  • @LecceDiPane I know im a little late on this one, but 98% of the black people i know call themselves Black British, or afro-carribbean, or just west Indian, or Nigerian or Ghanaian etc depending on where their parents come from, we hardly ever call ourselves just British unless we're like 3rd or 4th generation or when it comes to sports/competitons etc. Just an observation

  • Where ever we originated the fact is to them we're black though it's only a "Space Suit" but they make a big deal out of it, how idiotic aint it?

  • Comment removed

  • One thing we do know we're Black, like it really makes a difference. Of course it doesn't to us, but it sure does to them. It's only a "Space Suit" and all aren't the same color.

  • I vaguely remember this show. Thanks for posting.

  • Funny how we don't have any black programmes like this in the UK anymore. It seems the 80's had more black programmes back then and we are supposed to be now living in modern times. Back then we also had programmes like mixed blessings and other racist programmes so programmes like no problems were probably granted to blacks to keep them happy. Now that whites are not allowed to be racist in programmes anymore maybe they now feel they owe us nothing so no more black programmes in Britain.

  • they have urban tv and urban programmmes

  • lol well do whites owe black people anything anymore in the uk? i don't think so and i feel we have came a long way since the 80s to get over this black/white devide ofcourse it still exists but to a much lesser extent. As for no more black programmes these days we just want tv shows for everyone not one show for one race this is britain a country full of many races but all under the same nationality. Although one thing we do need to get over is the religous devide which is becoming worse.

  • @LecceDiPane Firstly I don't think white people today owe black people anything, some of your ancestors however owe us millions in land and property but that's another debate. For now anything we want as people we will work for and take we just want an even playing field. Secondly the tv shows that is for "everyone" currently do not show a wide spectrum of ethnic minorities and to be honest to make tv programmes more believable this is needed,

  • @LecceDiPane some white people still refer to us as coloured in open forums. And in order for this and subsequent generations to identify with characters on tv we need to make it clear we do exst everywhere.

  • @LecceDiPane Thirdly some parts of Britain are still living like it is 1980, London may be diversified but parts of Kent are not. As a Black British Female with African heritage my everyday plight and social issues differ from you being half black, opportunities are different, jobs, social interactions etc not neccessarily just because you can blend in both cultures but also because the way you was brought up by your family

  • So, it's the same here in Amerikkka, I wouldn't know, never been to Britain but I suppose all Western Societies are the same. Were you born in Britain? I find this very derogative and insulting as a Black Man. There was nothing informative in this episode.

  • There's a period in all African diasporas.... to have programmes which ultimately are derogatory to ourselves, just glad to have some "Blackness" on the TV... this programme was a very long time ago.... 30 years.... but if you wanna find something good on Black tv in Britain... I recommend "The Real McCoy".... pure brilliance....

  • @justine2unique Thank You a white Britain tried to tell me there wasn't any racism in England I knew he was lying racism is every where and blacks always get the brunt of it no matter where we go!!!

  • Gawd, I loved this back in the day. Thanks for the upload, amazing to see it again. Terri and Bellamy - fantastic! I even bought the single!

  • Yes Black American television is run by supremacist now also. Example, BET used to have quality music and shows. They used also have the DESMONDS in syndication on Black Entertainment Television

  • thank you thank you thank you, when are they gonna bring out the dvd?

  • eh mon!

  • such a stereotype conformist arnt you, with your "eh mon". knob!

  • Cousin Melba is a comedy icon!

  • i shot the sheriff.

  • This is a job for Bellamy Powell!

  • can anyone remember a program I'm looking for? it was a uk sitcom called 'the front line' about two brothers, one a rasta the other a policeman, I'm sure it had the guy who plays Denzil in 'only fools in it, early 80's, anyone help? It was an early introduction to Black life (of sorts) to me as a white kid and I used to love it

  • yeah i remember 'the front line'. yup, denzil from only fools, he was also in the full monty.

  • Yeah I remember that the dread was from up north along wid Denzil,he did an appearance in No Problem aswell,as the flash sweet talkin Northerner wid gold all bout...damn white kid you showing your age along with all of us...

  • haha! true, was the guy who played the dread the kid out of the film 'scum'? y'know the scouser with the 'up your borstal' line? he was in something recently

  • I jus remembered his name in that show he was called "Sheldon",remember? he used to say in that scouse voice "hay Sheldon"

  • you got it! that's the one, I wish someone would post some up, CLASSIC!!

  • good old internet, it 'was' the kid who played Meakin in Scum, his name's Alan Igbon and he played the dread 'Sherridan' (haha that brings it back dunnit?) and Loggo in Boys from the Blackstuff and Paul Barber who plays Denzil in Only fools played his policeman brother Malcolm

  • whats one brother mixed race and one white? If so I vaguely remember it

  • Great post. Loved this and its still sweeettt!

  • love this show.i remember it from my youth days.

  • me to! XD

  • Seems nice but I can't catch a word they're sayin'...

  • Desmonds got cancelled when the star of the show died. Hey doesn't the lady in the hat and old dress look like someone from the juke joint scene in the color purple? lol

Theme music is jumping. I can dance to it.

  • no it didn`t. he died three days into his retirement. it was never going to be recommisioned. no biggie, just setting the record straight

  • Well, then you need to correct the misleading information online and write a show history yourself cause that's where I got my info doing research on the show.

  • The woman doing the washing up is Yolande Trueman from EastEnders on 39 secs , i thought i recognise her , lol

  • Oh and dont forget Desmonds. Don't know why they stopped making comedies like this. Todays comedies are nonsense. They should put up subtitles telling us when to laugh. LOL

  • Aw maaan, I've been waiting FOREVER for someone to post clips from this show!! I was addicted to it at the time and used to tape it every week!!

  • I was just talking about this the other day thanks for posting this
