Oh my.... oh my.... I have to watch this more than once. They're in something like Hell, and every inhabitant has their story to tell but they're telling it all at once. It's spilling out in an unconstrained flood, a frenzied mind telling a frenzied story. They look a little silly in their giant urns when we get a wide shot, but... it's so... riveting..
Really strong with so brilliant performances!!!!!! It's so strong that I couldn't breath well while I was watching... Thank you very much for the video.
It's like all the millions of possible little avenues your mind can go down, simply sprayed out like blood from a wound as if the bleeding were cathartic.
Just thinking of all the work that went into this is blows my mind. Absolutely incredible. And of course, like everyone else, I love Alan Rickman for his talent as well as his passion.
I'd go insane if I had to listen to this all day. Should have just named this part one too. ^_^ Would have saved me the time of waiting for something differnet to happen lol..
This shook up my nerves. I was trying so hard to follow along with the story but in the end you get so tied into chatter your mind just starts to become confused. "As I as much, being seen" line gave me goosebumps O_O this is very very powerful! Their performances were so strong, reminds me of something I would write if I was frantic about something. Good job to all of them, Alan was the only one I paid most attention to though lol Bravo!
This was absolutely stunning. Though this adaptation lost something from the original play, still, I can't find anything to complain about. This should have definitely been nominated for make-up, cinematography, set design, direction, and performances. Well done, Minghella, and rest in peace.
I like this version, but it violates Beckett's intention. Because the film maker or the editor does not trust the material, he makes the choice to keep cutting back and forth throughout, when to actually experience the play, you would need to have a static shot that shows all three pots in the same shot at the same time, no cutaways or close-ups or silly jittering and focus tricks. The experience would be quite different.
@CrankdReport idk in my theater class we took an analysis of this and the angles were supposed to simulate an audiences eyes and what exactly they would be following in each moment, that was supposed to be the effect.
That was possibly one of the most fantastic pieces of work I have EVER seen. I am speechless...as though after listening to this, all the speech has been sucked out of me after concentrating on the pace of the words and their stories for so long.
No, it's subtly different. Beckett's play ends with the stage direction "[Repeat play.]" So it's up to each director how many times to repeat it, and in what order the speeches...Minghella's choices here are fascinating. Thank you Mady!
