Has Subaru ever fixed the brittle gears of the WRX transaxle yet ? My transaxle in my '06 WRX that I purchased new in Dallas broke TWICE in less than 18K miles and one year old before I traded it for another make of performance car, and I am on my third new car(BMW 3series coupe)since then. Subaru would not cover it under warranty($6K cost), so they lost a customer for life, or at least several new car purchases.
@raising1987 The 5 speeds they put in the WRX's suck and will always suck! My 2004 WRX grenaded the trans twice until I spent $3500 putting an RA gearset in it to take the abuse.
@raising1987 I've heard that the WRX and the WRX STI have very different parts in the transaxle and even suspension. Sort of makes it pointless to even buy just a WRX when you know that the STI is so much tougher.

So is this the Subaru version of the new Toyota/Subaru coupe? I know the new car is built on a modified Impreza platorm and powered by a flat-4, but to my knowledge, at least the Toyota version (likely "Celica") is N/A and rwd. It'd be awesome to have an STi coupe as well, instead of just Toyota/Subaru versions of the exact same car

Yeah!!, I think that is something Subaru should work on: A step tronic or shifttronic or whatever tronic sequencial automatic gearbox with at least 6 speeds and shift paddles behind the steering wheel. There are so many people loving that kind of gearboxes. Stop making that transhy 4 speed AT. Even the most Sporty cars from Europe are made with shifttronic style sequencial AT.

I am not complaining, I am giving a suggestion for them to have a bigger market, not just few people. All car makers has the MT in their models, but many of them with similar prices or maybe more premium brands has also better AT with 5 or 6 speeds. You talk about Pastrana and Ken, they are them and I dont have to like what others like to feel that I am correct. For me MT is for SUVs or Trucks with Diesel Engines, I like to drive them in MT. AT is for my gasoline car, Shifttronic by preference.

1)Subaru made more sales in this horrible economy than nearly any other carmaker. It is YOU who should pay more attention to the car industry.
2)If a 4EAT is made of good quality & is as fuel efficient as a 5EAT, then it can stay the way it is. I have a 4EAT & it doesn't bother me any.

fake indeed but this is one of the many concepts out there for the Toyota/Subaru coupe, which is suppose to be RWD 2.0L boxer engine with 200-220hp Toyota Direct Injection 145lbs tq, weighing 2700lbs or AWD 2.5 boxer engine and TDI, same set up as the STI. said to be sold as a Celica as JDM and Subaru elsewhere, with a FWD or RWD version for Scion as the replacment tC....
i didnt know they were planning on releasing the spec c in the US, has that been confirmed? cause if so that would bring back a reason to buy the STi over the 09 WRX.
The transmission in the STI is reason enough to get the STI over the WRX. If you are planning on modifying the car to make more power and take it to the track as many WRX owners do, then the WRX transmission is not going to be able to take the punishment well as the STI. Once you figure out you should have bought the STI, you are going to have to spend about $7000 extra to retrofit the STi transmission into the WRX. In Canada, the WRX sells for $35K where as the STI starts at $39,995.
I spent $27K on my 08 WRX and have put $3K in bolt on in it. I am currently making just over 350WHP with the stock tranny. When the clutch goes out I will probably replace or rebuild the tranny, but its running great. I take it to the track maybe 4-5 times/year and drive pretty conservatively daily. It just needs to last another 9 months, and then it becomes my project car.

So is this the Subaru version of the new Toyota/Subaru coupe? I know the new car is built on a modified Impreza platorm and powered by a flat-4, but to my knowledge, at least the Toyota version (likely "Celica") is N/A and rwd. It'd be awesome to have an STi coupe as well, instead of just Toyota/Subaru versions of the exact same car

Yeah!!, I think that is something Subaru should work on: A step tronic or shifttronic or whatever tronic sequencial automatic gearbox with at least 6 speeds and shift paddles behind the steering wheel. The 4 AT from Subaru is a PIECE OF SHIT, and not everybody likes 6 MT, so if they want more market, get what people like in a car, instead of getting alliances with Toyotrash...What makes a Subaru different than other cars??...the freaking AWD?, Audi has it, too (does Quattro rings you a bell?), it is just another car with good performance with a lack of equipment design and options. Too much money for a car that has power, but not enough technology in it.

I am not complaining, I am giving a suggestion for them to have a bigger market, not just few people. All car makers has the MT in their models, but many of them with similar prices or maybe more premium brands has also better AT with 5 or 6 speeds. You talk about Pastrana and Ken, they are them and I dont have to like what others like to feel that I am correct. For me MT is for SUVs or Trucks with Diesel Engines, I like to drive them in MT. AT is for my gasoline car, Shifttronic by preference.

1)Subaru offers a damn good, powerful, & reliable boxer engine. One of the finest in the world.
2)4EAT is not a piece of shit. I should know. I have one & it shifts smoothly & hasn't given me one issue.
3)Boxers+AWD=Vehicle with low center of gravity & much more balanced than an Audi. Subarus have enough technology.
4)You cannot use how many gears a car has to determine whether it is efficient or not. Escalades have shit for gas mileage & they come with 6 speed auto.

The Automatic Gearbox in Subaru is 4 speed steptronic..you can check it by yourself, the Manual Gearbox is 5 or 6 speeds, depending on the model. If you drive a manumatic because you can't handle stick, you are NOT a sport driver. End of story.
It doesn't matter what some racing brackets use. There are others that require drivers to shift gears manually (and yes, it IS a huge part of the skill).

I have watched WRC videos from then & now. I'll tell you straight up that the WRC from back then is far more entertaining to watch than today's shit.
1)Subaru practically gives AWD to the people while everyone else costs an arm & leg, jackass. It IS cheap & reliable.
2)So you're the priss that likes his auto to have manual shifting. It's still nothing like having a stick shift, doofus. I should know. I owned a Chrysler 300M Special & it never felt as good to drive as my old 240SX 5pd Turbo.

Gained 20%, in relation to what??...you could gain 20% after gaining last year just one dollar, so after a year you got 20 cents....THATS NOTHING...so, when you talk about numbers, talk about completely. Theirs sales are nothing good compared with other brands within the same segment. maybe 2 or 3 cars a month??...that sucks, even a premium brand has more sales than that. The CVT in legacy is good, thats true. But the 4 speed AT is something disappointing from a car of that level. No Doubt!

1)A 4 speed can be efficient. I get about 33mpg in my 4EAT Subaru Legacy L.
2)Even today, my car is still one of the most efficient on the road.
3)My 'mid-size' car also weighs 2800lbs, where today's 'small' cars weight over 3000lbs. My legacy is even lighter than today's Corolla. Fancy that.

1)Subaru made more sales in this horrible economy than nearly any other carmaker. It is YOU who should pay more attention to the car industry.
2)If a 4EAT is made of good quality & is as fuel efficient as a 5EAT, then it can stay the way it is. I have a 4EAT & it doesn't bother me any.
3)Subaru has much more than Boxer/AWD, they have control, power, speed, & usefulness in different climates. In other words, they are/can be invaluable to a person who wants a cheap but reliable AWD car.

1)My Legacy gets over 30mpg on a 4spd, something most 5spds have trouble pulling off, hater. Not my fault you drive a piece of shit paddle shift.
2)Audi A4s don't get anything close to what I get for gas mileage, dumbass. Name 1 Audi A4 that gets over 30mpg with it's 5 speed. Until then, the shut the fuck up with your 5spd>4spd nonsense.
3)Paddle shifters may shift quicker than a normal manual transmission but they are not as engaging or as fun as a real manual, jackass. You should know this.

The highest my car gets is fucking 33mpg, something your precious 5spd mid-size cars can't touch. All with a 4spd. fake indeed but this is one of the many concepts out there for the Toyota/Subaru coupe, which is suppose to be RWD 2.0L boxer engine with 200-220hp Toyota Direct Injection 145lbs tq, weighing 2700lbs or AWD 2.5 boxer engine and TDI, same set up as the STI. said to be sold as a Celica as JDM and Subaru elsewhere, with a FWD or RWD version for Scion as the replacment tC....

The transmission in the STI is reason enough to get the STI over the WRX. If you are planning on modifying the car to make more power and take it to the track as many WRX owners do, then the WRX transmission is not going to be able to take the punishment well as the STI. Once you figure out you should have bought the STI, you are going to have to spend about $7000 extra to retrofit the STi transmission into the WRX. In Canada, the WRX sells for $35K where as the STI starts at $39,995.

I spent $27K on my 08 WRX and have put $3K in bolt on in it. I am currently making just over 350WHP with the stock tranny. When the clutch goes out I will probably replace or rebuild the tranny, but its running great. I take it to the track maybe 4-5 times/year and drive pretty conservatively daily. It just needs to last another 9 months, and then it becomes my project car.
