  • What sane man woulda saw that thing in the snow and decide to pick it up and bring it back to

    base?!

  • this movie is just atmospheric no wonder it is considered one of the best horror movies of all time

  • Just

  • -sigh of happiness- good old fashion 80s effects when blood was blood and something was actually in front if the camera if only more movies would have practical effects like this CG should only be used if practical effects are impossible to use for the situation I.e. The T-1000 from T2 judgement day

  • @KennethMoreland NO! NO!... NO!

  • not the doggie.. poorr doggiee.. they r gonna be diee...:(

  • all i could think through out the hole movie was poor dogies oh yeah and O FUCKEN SHIT JESUS FUCK SHIT CHRIST

  • What i missed about the Thing 1982 when I saw the 2011 prequel was that in the 1982 movie the Thing was more 'bloody' and gross looking.

  • i saw the kennel scene when i was far far far too young and couldnt watch anymore. all i remebered from the film in recent years was the opening dog chase scene. so i only knew the latest film was a prequel at the very last bit. which actually made the experience that much better.

  • 7:09

    SHIT FUCK AND PISS

  • CGI looks so much better than this oldies crap.

These effects look so cheesy now.

  • @KennethMoreland you sir have no taste

  • @KennethMoreland Hours of work are put into every detail of a real model to get the look and feel perfect for whatever situation they are meant to look their best at.

CGI is something that is done in a fraction of the time and it shows. You simply do not get detail in a cgi model like you would with a real life model designed with a purpose.

I understand people have opinions but if you seriously think a non existent 3D cartoon looks more real than something that exists.. you have poor taste.

  • Ok, I peed my self.

  • 02:00 Shish Kebab !! Yummy :))

  • AK47masterpiece: I have been bitten by a fucking German Shepard, so you know that 3:20 freaks me out too

  • LMAO @ the humans and how they already unknowingly had The Thing in their outpost, then they went and got the rest of it and brought it back with them. I bet the 'dog' was thinking 'hehehehehe...'

  • These effects hold up, beacuse they are not focused on, They are GREAT, but Carpenter, like Hitchcock, gives just enough, the we fill in the blanks,.

It is the Story Line, Dialog, Writing Character building, and Music that create the best Sci/Fi/Horror movies.

We never saw a women stabbed in Physco.

Just chocholate syryp down the drain.\

    MOMMY, I am Scared

  • poor dogs..

    great film!

  • @diecheney lmao.

    what about the dudes?

  • Scared as hell!!!This movie taught me to NEVER poke my pencil at things >.<

  • I always get creeped out wacthing this part.. This is one of the few horror movies that can still scare me

  • watching on youtube is way more scarier than watching on TV

  • someone should take a hit of LSD and go see the prequel! LMAO

  • @sikkinyx58 Was it any good, or should I wait untill its on HBO????

  • @b52gf16c I really enjoyed it. I thought it was a really fun ride, like it is intended to be. Some people look at it like it's supposed to be the cure for cancer! Fuck that. I think you should definatley go see it, then comment to me what you think. Bottom line is, if they didn't think too much about stuff, they might actually enjoy things ;)

Also, I ordered the novelization by Alan Dean Foster of the 1982 movie, and it's on it's way! Man i can't wait to read that!

  • @sikkinyx58 Thats funny when I was a kid my father took me to see the 1982 version and then complained after that the film was not as good as the 50s one ( the thing from another World) that being said I am going to see the current one with out any expectations!!

  • @b52gf16c cool!

  • that dog is fairly creepy...never thought i'd say this but...that dog can act! , syke but seriously im terrified of it now, fuck a husky

  • BEST EVER HOLLY WOOD AUTOPSY SQELCHY.

  • Macready and his guys had some balls. I sure as hell wouldn't be riding in a vehicle with that THING in the goddamn back seat lol...

  • 6:10

    That dog is a spy.

  • The Doctor... He reminds me of something...... WAIT A MINUTE!!!

"Hi, I'm Wilford Brimley, here to talk to you about diabeeetus..."

  • @Watermellonman97 That and oatmeal, LOL...

  • DON'T WORRY! The stuff that the thing sprayed at the dogs was just the fillings of twinkies coloured black!

  • At 3:20 that scared the shit out of me!

  • Fukkin bad ass 80s fx! This movie is epic.

  • I still can't watch this in the dark. THIS is a real horror film.

  • Awesome movie. 80s movies are the best

  • Horror. HORROR. Not a slasher, not a torture porn. No stupid teenagers nor obligatory romantic motive. I.E. no shit.

  • What ever happened to those other two dogs....

  • @M3gaZeroD13 I like to think that they're okay and not infected.

  • @M3gaZeroD13 - If those dogs were smart kept running and running...

  • Fuckin music makes my nips hard

  • John Carpenters THING !!

  • This was so cruel!

    But it looks real!

  • why is my frozen food done in microwave around at 4:00...

  • I love watching this when I eat. <3

  • I always wondered why all these Antartic research had flamethrowers, rifles, and grenades......:)

  • Best horror film ever made. i'm watching it here because I just found out there's a remake. For some reason.

  • @greybrother01

It's NOT a re-make. It's a prequel that chronicles the events before this version.

  • @positivityforever To be exact, it's about what happens at the Norwegian base that they explore in this movie.

We know 2 people survive to chase the dog-thing, and that one guy cuts his own throat, but that's it. And yes, the folks making the pre-quel have studied this movie extesively, the director is a big fan of The Thing and wants it to mesh perfectly.

  • @Evilmike42 To be exact its a sequel, not a prequel.

  • @ZeroDegreeAngle Nope. The 'prequel' ends where this movie starts...with 2 Norwegians in a helicopter chasing a dog across the snow........

  • @greybrother01 : There's no remake. There's a prequel.

  • the effects are so much better than today's cgi crap.

  • that was SO fucking awesome, BUT so fucked up on SO many levels what that thing did to the dogs!!!

  • I love the way the deformed dog head looks at them at 9:40 THAT'S A GOLDEN SHOT.

  • Famous scene, disgust level 11 all the way !

  • the special effects are state of the art

  • These effects piss all over CGI. These effects look so authentic and realistic. One of my favourite horror films of all time.

  • @Jcm9991 agreed

  • @Jcm9991 Are you joking? or are you being serious and just taking sides for the older movie? These effects suck, but the movie is good.

  • @YoshiLover2012 Nope. I'm deadly serious. The effects in this movie, in my opinion, look a LOT more authentic and realistic than digitally rendered images. There are exceptions where CGI does look good (sci-fi movies), but for horror movies, these type of effects will always be superior to CGI.

  • @Jcm9991 I mean i could understand how you feel, i like noth, but CGI just seems more realistic, and it gives the thing more possibilities. In the new version, it is Very very fast and quick, but in this version, it has kindof delayed reflexes and its kindof slow.

  • @YoshiLover2012 The delayed reflexes make it look more creepy and alien-like, in my opinion. CGI very rarely looks gruesome or "fleshy". Using real props and materials for effects just gives it a superior edge which CGI cannot deliver - for horror films, that is. For sci-fi and disaster movies, CGI looks awesome.

  • @Jcm9991 i mwith you in the sequel sure the thing looks more like a alien but the natural effects make this movie so much better because it looks disgusting and horrifying the CGI version just looks alien like doesnt give the right look to the alien for it toi be a horror movie

  • @Jcm9991 and if a 17 year old like me can appreciate such a old classic film such as this then it truly must be a great film

  • I always felt soo Bad for the dogs... :'(

  • I like how Kurt Russel looks at the thing and hes just like, 'hmmm...' Honestly, I would have been like, ' Dude What the Fuck! It has 2 fuggin faces! HOLY SHET!!!'

  • thats the guy from JAWS! 2:41

  • @Clawmarkedmovies I don't think any member of the cast was in JAWS.

  • towards the end....

well you dont see that everyday.

  • does this thing have a true form???

  • @lion3p0 Probably, yes, but it never assumes it throughout the movie.

  • @Specterish i wish we could see it or atleast know wat it looks like

  • @lion3p0 Yeah, I'd of liked to have seen what it looked like before crashing... I suppose it adds to the mystery though by never showing what the alien really is.

  • @Specterish and we probally don't want to know lol.

  • This was always the most difficult scene for me to watch in this movie.

But it does help somewhat to remember that the dogs are also acting as well, not just the humans. the dog thing acts better than some humans do, lol

  • @XWWE88 The dog and that damn crawling head have been popular features in my nightmares ever since my mom made me watch this movie when I was 11.

  • Mmm, tasty dog. I just got a craving for Chinese food.

  • This dog kennel scene is bar-non(in my book) the darkest, most disturbing and unsettling scene that I ever bared witness to. I first saw this when I was 7(it was the first horror scene that made me feel disturbed while watching it) and the music, the lighting, the build-up or tension of the crew closing in on the kennel in unison only to experience the horrors that await their eyes is fucked up and really gripping.

  • For anyone wondering what exactly happened to or what exactly the two-faced thing that Mac and Doc find is. I read on imdb.com message boards(a user read the script for The Thing Prequel, or a version of it) that an infected Norwegian crew member tried to assimilate a fellow human Norwegian crew member and other members found them while the assimilation was happening and burned them. the sounded really cool. I have high hopes now for the prequel.

  • Awesome fucking effects.

  • Those dogs really look scared as hell too

  • Rob Bottin is an absolute genius. The monstrous creations in this movie are sickening works of art. I dont know about anyone else but I get kind of a "black paintings of Goya" vibe from a lot of them.

  • @mikedrummonds I'm thinking more along the lines of Giger, with a dash of Francis Bacon.

  • 3:21, jesus that's creepy as hell.

  • I agree. That dog's reactions are very disturbing. How the hell did they get that dog to have subtle reactions like that?

  • @xxashyy Hell, the dog was almost better than the humans.

  • Mac wants the flamethrower.!!! Mac wants the what?!!! ...LOL:D

  • they should've given a line to one of the guys in the scene. something like "what in the name of christ is that....?" maybe something a lil better than mine, but still. when i first saw it, i was like "fuck aliens, this is more terrifying than green acid for blood"

  • What was the substance the dog/thing was pissing at the dogs?

  • @asshole4good

may have been some sort of digestive enzyme that it normal would use while assimilating a creature, but in this case it made it into a more projectile like form so the poor dog would not escape.

  • @asshole4good I'm guessing some sorta paralizing or pre-digestive agent. Either way, bad juju.

  • Damn felt sry for the dogs ._.

  • "I don't know what's in there.....but it's weird and it's pissed off whatever it is"..........Best line in the whole movie.

  • Aw man... I just chose the wrong time to eat. *_*

  • the best horra eva made

  • The dog scene is the grossest I've ever scene.

  • i wonder how small your pecker would get in a place as cold as there

  • they performed an autopsy on the Norwegian? I think there would have been diplomatic problems between Norway and the US if a bunch of Americans performed an autopsy on a Norwegian THEY shot....

  • Holy fuck forget rabies

  • poor little pooches...

  • Horror in its purest form
