I have to say that I do like Fischer-Dieskau in this role and I like his interpretation of the aria, however I hate how the director chose to stage it in the movie.....it would have been much interesting if he had been by himself in his office contemplating these thoughts vocally instead of thinking them inside his head. Just a personal opinion....like I said it's not the singing it's the staging that bothers me.
I agree, his acting is horrible in this scenes. What he was a master of was facial expressions which worked very well in his arias and Lieder. Unfortunately he does come from the age when a beautiful sound took precidence over acting. Fortunately, times have changed and now singers are required to both be able to sing well and act. With this aria I really think that a lot of it had to do with that the staging required him to stand still for the majority of the time.
Also, this aria should not be mere thoughts while he's in front of other people. He is in is office alone contemplating the events. Which would allow him to sing out loud and act more. But I definitely agree that this is not an excellent performance of his acting ability.
fantastic dfd but also karl bohm's incredible tempo and rythm...

Grande Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau. Una escena dificil por la acción que implica ya que si bien hay varios personajes solo su voz es la activa.

I would die if I had to sing it at this tempo, but he manage nicely! The film itself is very...interesting to say the least!

@ mouthmouse:
No! It's the right tempo!
Today Mozart IMO is played way too fast! xD

it's strange because every conductors would play too fast? And it's a bohm's interpretation, conductor known to interprate aria slowly
But if you're sure it's THE right tempo, I'm not an expert so I believe you! :)

I actually like DFD for certain roles but what about his acting??
In this particular scene you can see what a terrible actor he was, I wish he didn´t.
