@andyblueful You can't use the recovery menu to fix gamesave data. You may not be able to recover this data if its corrupted. You should contact the game developers for support.

I tried option 3 and it keeps saying my hard drive is corrupted. So I've read up on using option 5. I've heard some people say that it erases your PSN account. This seems highly unlikely to me but I want to double check. As long as I have the log in info I can still use my same account right? And after it wipes the drive clean, I can re-download items purchased in the playstation store, correct? Trying to get this issue resolved without forking out dough. Appreciate any help.

@ledzkreep Correct. Option 5 will completely reset your PS3, and delete all games, data, PSN accounts on the console. If you sync your trophies and backup your data before resetting you can restore everything once it has been reset.

Now, I want to get my items purchased online back, so am I supposed to deactivate my system??

@ledzkreep 1) the restore option under system settings restores the firmware and deletes all the data. Use the restore option under the backup utility to restore your backed up files.

2) Its a good idea to deactivate the system if you plan on reinstalling the whole firmware. For a restore of your data, this isn't required as the firmware isn't reinstalled so your purchased content would still work.

Well, everytime i put on my ps3 it freezes just before the XMB would show up, so it freezes on the wavy lines thing. So i tired to do this but i get an error saying the correct hard drive cannot be found.

@ihavefoundmikestooth sound like you need to repair the hard drive before you can use it. Try using the recovery menu to repair the drive and trying again.

@gonnhaze make sure you are using the correct resolution for your HDTV. Try using 720p to see if you get a image on the screen. If that works, move to 1080i as necessary.

Also, its worth double checking what version of HDMI your TV uses. If it's too old, it may not be compatible with the PS3.

you know you have YLOD when your system turns off beeps and flashes the red light continuously. Then you press the power button and it stops and remain in stand-by mode and when you try to turn it on it turns green and then shuts down but you get a 3 second glimpse of a yellow light...thats when you have YLOD...i fixed that problem on my own and its quite easy

@zax2222 turn your PS3 off and hold down the power button until the you hear a few beeps. It should return you to the XMB. Otherwise, you the recovery menu to select reboot (if you can).
