Its not too bad if you do the prep, I did it for first time in 2010, be back in 2011 to knock some time off! Started training 8 months out. Great acheivement. Don't need to carry that amount of fluid though- water stops on the way, i had Raiseys hydrate electrolyte additive in powder form and added it to bottles when I stopped for refills. That and banana's got me through fine without using gel packs- not an elite racer mind you- took me 5hrs50.
Hydrate and fuel up just before the first climb at the 83km mark, then fuel up about every 10km. Save about 3 gel packs to fuel up before hatepe climb. Hydrate the whole way through. The last 20km into taupo is the most important...this will either give you a good time or a bad time.
Try and get at least 40-60km training ride every week and work your way up to 100km to 160km 3 weeks out of the event. By this time your fitness and saddle ready ass is good to go ! Check the saddle is the right one for you
Race Day
Carb up at least 2000 to 3000 cal prior...slow releasing carbs
Carry 8 litres of water.... 2 bottles on bike, 2 more behind jersy and a camel pack(2lt)

Hi there
Dont be nervous its not that bad, it just looks intimidating. But be confident on the bike and be comfortable riding in close quarters to start with.

I"ve booked in to do it for the first time at the end of this year and watching your video has made me nervous already.
So what will you be doing next year? Any tips?
