Around 2:53 we came face to face with a Toyota that had NO brakes! Going up was great but coming back dow...I walked. The Toyota freaked me out a little needlass to say
daaaaaaaang i cant wait to go back!!!!!!!!!! But i dont drive a jeep, we took my dad's 1980 Toyota FJ40 this summer, now i'm buyin a 79 GMC 4x4 to go this summer for my senior trip type thing, ITS GNA BE AWESOME!!!!!
Thanks for all these goodies. Can't hardly wait..we leave Wed. Yippii..Hope it's cooler than here in Arizona, you learn that a seat belt buckle makes a good branding iron, and 95 would feel chilly.
Some great trails: From Silverton, head to Animas Forks for a pretty drive, it's easy. There are MANY great trails that start in animas forks but they are all 4WD. they include: Engineer, Cinnamon, Hurricane, California.
An AMAZING trail I just discovered last month...head to Ouray from Silverton and 5 miles out of Silverton, take the exit for a campground..can't recall the name now...Mineral Creek maybe? You can take this road PAST the camp ground and it forks....to the left is the Bandora Mine, nice road...but to the right is an amazing road, Clear Lake..it goes to an alpine Lake that is stunning. Both roads are an easy 4WD.
Also easy is Last Dollar Road, between Ridgway and Telluride. Owl Creek Pass is easy, and is in between Ridgway and Montrose (closer to Ridgway). Other amazing easy roads are East Dallas Creek and West Dallas Creek (also on the hwy between Ridgway and Telluride). Hope that helps!
@JeepsterGal.........for you older Jeepers, speaking of Owl Creek Pass. Just below the summit of OCP on the west side is where the famous location of 'True Grit's' John Wayne reins in the mouth shoot out with 'Lucky Ned Pepper (a young Robert Duvall) took place." I mean to kill you in one minute Ned, or see you hanged in Fort Smith at judge Parkers convienice, which will it be???" " I call that bold talk for a one eyed fat man!!!" Fill You hands,,, You SOB!!!
Well, depends...I once did Ophir Pass, which is one of the mildest roads in the area, with people who had never offroaded before and they had conniptions. And Corkscrew is much more rough, but the drops offs aren't as bad I suppose. LOL. How scary can a road be that has a nice bathroom at the top, like Corkscrew! LOL
Ash, I think your comments are good words for anyone starting out. The manual is for sure, not the preferred, mine is manual and that will be changed in my next jeep. But, I have been jeeping over about 25 tails in Colorado in a Cherokee and the slightly longer wheel base isn't bad once you get used to it. I have managed in all trails I have tackled. But, again, my next jeep will be a wrangler so your point is still accurate. Take your time, and enjoy! Nice stuff Jeepster.
Excellent video, excellent music selection! I love taking Colorado back roads and mountain passes, and one of these days I will get my act together so I can make quality videos like yours! At any rate, keep up the good work, and keep following those trails I can't get to yet!
I did Corkscrew - Hurricane - California -Animas Forks - Silverton 3 weeks back. It was my 1st 4x4 trip ...... scared the shit out of me ....and I had the bigger longer 5 seater wrangler manual(mistake).....serious advice ....if u r not an expert, take a short wheelbase jeep......u can enjoy the scenary much more than I did(I was driving)....but worth the view I got on those roads.....perhaps the most captivating natural beauty that I've seen in my life......
Jeep - those shots at the summit...... I am forever in your debt! My wife (really) doesn't share my enthusiasm for mountains (she grew up in Darjelling and thinks its all a bit over-rated, I guess) but every now and then I show her some Colorado stuff that does the job. This one made her sit up and applaud! I reckon I might be able to persuade her to drive over if you keep posting more like this!
Glad you enjoyed. I have many more tapes of off road adventures from he San Juans last fall, I just need to get them edited! So check back soon for more or please subscribe to my videos! I hope to have one up in the next 2 weeks.
Great video! The descent of Corkscrew is a real roller coaster! I enjoyed the faster version, gives a bit more realism to the trail. No one could drive it that fast!
Excellent video! My wife & I did the Alpine Loop, Cal, Hurr, Cork Sept. 20 & 21 this yr. Your videos are very clear on YouTube. I shot mine in HD and used a Mac to convert to 640 X 360 for YouTube. Any special tricks you have to avoid the YouTube fuzzies? Also, you seem to have a special camera mount - it seems to isolate vibrations very well. Can you share any details about the mount? Thanks! PS. I come to Colorado every fall to offroad (in rentals!) - it's my favourite place!
And keep in mind there are plenty of cool places here in Colorado Springs to go offroading too. :) There's offroading pretty much any where you live in Colorado :)
Sure! I have friends that climb all the time but they don't even need the ropes. There are trails up these mountains but it does get rough near the top when you're crossing the scree. But they are climbed all the time!
Love the "fast" trip up corkscrew. You're becoming quite the local expert in these parts. Guess we'll have to meet up next time you're here. We've gotten LOTS of snow so the passes are...impassable!
Yes, next time I'm there we need to get together! Wish I could be a "local" expert and actually LIVE there! We haven't received any snow yet in Colo Spgs...but I'm sure it's on the way!
Another awesome job, girl! I'm so glad you're showing me all the trails I hope to go on next year. But when will you show me Black Bear? HaHaHa. Everyone at work, and friends loved Engineer Pass. Keep up the great work! Dave
ps-True Grit...Awesome, too. My dad and I were on Owl Creek Pass (& all the offshoots) and in Ridgeway, the day after we did Engineer.
Heya Dave! Glad to see you again! You and I can see Black Bear for the first time from the back of a tour jeep one year! LOL. Glad you enjoyed True Grit and went up Owl Creek. It's an easy but enjoyable ride. Next videos will be Ophir Pass, Last Dollar and Brown's Gulch...stay tuned!
I love being above timber line. Not many people get to take in that thin air up there. Thanks for the fun can't wait to see the next VIDEO. YOU ROCK JEEPSTERGAL
Awesome. I can't believe how narrow the road looks. Good stuff.

We drove this pass in September of 2009 and when we got to the top it started snowing. Holy crap! Maybe August will be better. Thanks for sharing!
