The understanding is that when BMW made Land Rover, 2000-2004, they were very good vehicles. Once Ford took over in 2005, they became a nightmare.

Most of them are lemons, Consumer Reports has them as the least reliable cars with the most problems, and that is an absolute fact.  Beautiful car though.

Land Rovers after 2001 were built better and more reliable than older models. Although Consumer reports is a good source of information they are not always correct in their reporting. I owned a 2001 Discovery II and after 125,000 miles not one problem. Regular maintenance and oil changes. As wih all cars you have to maintain them regularly. Something most american buyers are not accustomed to.

It is such a shame that Land Rovers have so many reliability problems, they are beautiful cars but why take the chance of having a lemon.

As much as I love these new models im very sad to say that land rover is for getting its roots. i.e, Defender for army, rescue, police, farmer and off roader (real work horse). Discovery was for the person that couldnt aford the range rover or wanted more seats because of kids or both but still wanted real off road ability and the flag ship RANGE ROVER, the jaguar on road and defender off road all in one. Why mess with what worked. If its not broke dont fix it. Long live Land Rover

Umm.... no. Audi V12 TDi is a road going version of the engine in the Audi R10 Le Mans car. Its meant to be a halo model, a showcase of what they can do with diesel engines. I think it would have been too easy for Audi to put a V12 petrol engine in any car, instead they did it with a diesel engine, now they are the only manufacturer with a 12 cyl. diesel engine.
