If you want to get technical, he did die. Al used the Philosohper's Stone to bring his soul back and return his limbs. Ed then sacrificed those limbs (and without intention, the memories of Al) to bring Al back. Ed also ended up in Germany.

same here. well, if you're not aware, there IS a set of verrrry short OAVs for FMA, listed as a set of four called "Premium Collection" and their indevidual names are: "Kids", "Chibi[or]After Party", "Real Life", and "State Alchemists vs. Homunculi" the latter being the longest at just about 10mins. the others all clock out at under 7mins. They're pretty damn good, my fav is "Kids" and "Chibi Party." just key-search 'em and hopefully they're still up.
