  • Very cool Dan! We made a parabolic dish solar cooker from an old 10' satellite dish. For the first year we used old CDs as reflectors. It works pretty well, hot enough to cook marshmallows on long sticks. Next summer we're talking about a broken mirror mosaic. It will get heavy.. I will check out the material on your site.

keep up the good work! Eric

  • Nice when clear skies. How much heat is captured when overcast?

Must keep tracking the sun. Awkward and cumbersome.

No need to produce such high, dangerous temperatures.

  • cool

  • Those vacuum tubes are incredible bare footing you add any collector and they are so powerful they beat most electrical appliances.

  • heh when I first saw you in the hooded sweatshirt I thought maybe it dropped all the way down to 65 in florida or something :P

  • "And in a related story, flight number 171 fell out of the sky today after being hit with what some called 'an evil laser beam'. Film at eleven."

  • thumbs up......thank you

  • Awesome!

I wish I lived right next door to ya'll. I love all of your experiments! Why doesn't everybody love FREE energy? I think it's fascinating (in a low budget, endless possibilities kind of way). I can't wait to see the video from the film crew. At least somebody is interested in home brew renewable energy.

Next time let Denise wear the jacket ;)

  • muy bueno !!!

  • Awesome as ALWAYS.

  • Keep up good work! I like all of your video.

  • I thought microwaves were bad for food?

  • what is the coating on the inner tube ?

  • lol turn heat into electricity

  • Awesome!

    Thanks!

  • What kind of temperatures do you reach there? 2500ºC will split water into H2 + O, meaning you can store energy to put in fuel cell for overhyped cars, or just for local heating away from the dish. Some good H gas lines with flashback arrestors exist now. As cool as your various applications are, it would be nice to get one step further. Using the green energy for basicc family needs such as transportation and electro. Love the piecce on forced air heating.

BTW insulation is under-covered in MSM

  • Should do it with an aerosol can

  • I find it sad that only TV crews from Japan are interested in your work, but try seeing anything like this on TV here in North America, beyond a 2 minute human interest clip on the news. I guess that's what YouTube is for. This is where you see real things happen.

  • Powerful stuff, the sun...

Best protection from hot water is wearing rain gear, by the way. ;)

  • So are you getting about 2kW of power out of that? Maybe it's closer to 3kW.

  • So are you getting about 2kW of power out of that?

  • you spark dozens of application ideas in my head... the use of reflectors to more cheaply amplify the heat production of a single vacuum solar panel - thereby reducing the costs for solar hot water and space heating considerably. ...the use of a properly aimed huge dish to provide both light and gentle heat to a home (see: solar heliostats- but the challenge w/heliostats is computer directed is best for that application.) Food canning-which is tricky at best with lower temp solar power etc..

  • Great channel! Entertaining and useful.

  • that was impressive.

  • i think its time to take that old plastic down dan. i can think of a few better uses for it than decomposing leaves.

  • I am workikng on using a cheap engine hoist from Harbor Freight...modifying the arm to hold items to heat up/cook.

I have been working at those plants out west that use parabolic trough to make utility scale electrical power for the past 25 years...I know how easy it is to catch stuff on fire...but it has to be in the focal point....and that is just feet or meters away. We are near Edwards air force base and there are no issues with flights, etc...the focal length are just too miniscule.

  • 80F and you're wearing three layers of clothing? You trying to sweat off some weight?

  • So what would happen if a Helicopter or plain went over head? Would the beam be strong enough to do damage to a high altitude object or god forbid make an aircraft crash? I would love to build something like this or a scale down model however mt fear is I would hurt someone lol.

  • @Jaygoodpatriot

up that high you wouln't even get a showing of a reflection because the light would be so diffuse by then. the hot spot or focal length is only 6 ft. from the dish and gets cooler from there on out. Even up a hundred feet you might only see a black spot because none of the light from the dish is hitting your eye, it's all going in other directions.

  • @Jaygoodpatriot Itsandbits is correct, plus, check out Dan's answer here: watch?v=oLDS8fONaM4

  • @Jaygoodpatriot The focal length is at best 3 feet, or whatever the distance was that Dan had the vacuum tube held at, the beam is spread out to infinity the further you get from the mirror. The only reflective surfaces that cause trouble for planes are HUGE and flat. As someone else pointed out, if you are not close to the focal point, it will actually appear less reflective than normal objects, it will have a very dark appearance VS anything else

  • You've demonstrated over and over the power of sunlight being able to boil water. I'd love to see you engineer the next step which is to insert a heat pipe into the evacuated tube and extract the heat into compressed steam. I think I can speak for just about everyone here. We want to see these reflectors turn a steam engine that's not a toy. Show us how to turn a 1HP steam engine or 10HP.... please? :-)

  • Dan u the man that is just amazing! So many possibilities

  • Dan this is brilliant. I hope the eyes of earth learn from your experiment.

  • That contracption makes your yard look like Dr. Doom lives there or some Area 51 action! haha I love it though. Experimenting with power is the greatest fun ever and it will be someone such as yourself who ends up making a breakthrough discovery that will turn the energy future of this world upside down! I would love to see that Japanese footage someday. Great video as usual Dan!

  • You know Its great to see you out in the glorious sunshine conducting your solar experiments but I live in scotland and its not really a viable thing here. What about some green stuff for us folk not too far south of the arctic circle!

  • @TheJimmax

Arch Eye Hoots Man - Lift up ye kilt - there be plenty of sunshine up there boyo.

  • @callmeshane303 I think you ment Och aye hoots min lift up yir kilt. And I think you will find that boyo is a word associated with wales not scotland. Tell me is every one in australia as stupid as you?

  • @TheJimmax

Ahh Jock Strap - Ya fargit aboot th' myth of the Mighty Sun, that is said to be poking out from behind the bonny clood, frum time to time.....

Arrhhh wassit from out ye arsehole, Jock Strap me Ladde.

  • What's the area of that dish, Dan? Any estimation on any calculations? I'm assuming a trough would do the same type of concentration along a horizontal tube.

  • hey dan, cool post. what about hooking up a steam engine to this set up with maybe a smaller mirror so not so awkward to set up. free nrg with only by-product being steam

  • Small clothes?... You just want to show off your guns. I was wondering what happened to my old surveillance van,,,see it's in your back yard DUDE!!!

You are starting to look like a mad scientist. About time!!!!

  • Amazing! How sad we don't use this energy as much as we could? I've bought the material from you :) as soon as I have time I will try to make a solar plate :) not as big as this one of course. This one is impressive of course, you could feed the whole community with one oven like this, for real! Love your passion and how talented you, your wife, and your crew are.

  • yay Dan for finally starting to use metric system, if only in the description so far :-)

  • @teddirez

    I make Merikens understand that they are only 5% of the worlds population, and they are the only ones that use it - so 95% of his audience hasn't a clue about chains, furlongs galleons, hogs heads, bushels, cubits or feet boards;

And most Merikens have no idea where the USA is on a world map or that Queen Elizabeth died in 1672 - and her measuring system no longer applies.

So they need educating. 95% of the worlds population ONLY uses metric.

  • Can I make this myself? If not, where can I buy one?

  • I have heard that a good medium for storing heat (to be released later) is parafin (wax). I haven't tried it yet, but plan on it some day. Thanks for the great videos.

  • does puting the water inside a dark metal tube improve's the heating efect ?

caouse colors are important for the ligth an heat absorsion, and as waters is transparent, doesn't absorb too much heat fast.. i think !!!

  • Comment removed

  • @DontFriendInviteMe Doesn't work that way buddy. It has a focal point, hence the heat (light) and thus outside of that zone the intensity is actually diminished. This would be less reflect than a car windscreen to an plane etc. Dan has covered this already, watch?v=oLDS8fONaM4&feature=relmfu

  • @anthroparion I'm not a "buddy" and I was being sarcastic. I've been watching Dan for years.

  • @DontFriendInviteMe No worries buddy. Didn't mean to make you upset.

  • @anthroparion I'm not upset ... when I said I'm not a buddy, I meant that I'm a woman ;o)

  • @DontFriendInviteMe

Too right good buddy. 10.4 Truckers dude.

No need to get upset and act all premensterelle, otherwise people will think your a wimmin.

    OK dude?

  • @callmeshane303 Go to hell

  • @DontFriendInviteMe

What gay bars do you hang out at and are you a submissive bottom or a sissy boy cross dresser?

    XOXO

    Big Dick.

  • @anthroparion

Ohhh no it's very dangerous - because IF the pilot lies into the focal point - then not only will you have a blinded pilot, but she will be on fire as well.

  • @callmeshane303 Well, it would serve the pilot right for telling lies. On another note, Dan, have you looked into the "Thomas Edison Free Energy" posts? The links always pop up around your vids. Is it dinkum? Have you played around with it at all? Cheers.

  • @DontFriendInviteMe There will never be a pilot in the path of the reflected light. check Dan's channel home for the video where he explains why there is no hazard to the pilots of air craft.

  • @westkan OMG .. what part of sarcasm do you people not get?

  • @DontFriendInviteMe My recollection is that you didn't indicate sarcastic intent, as you removed the comment there's no way to be sure. There should be an addition to Poe's Law stating you can't parody ignorance without appearing ignorant yourself. Save every one a few seconds next time, and indicate humor or sarcasm if that's your intent. No one is required to read every other comment before replying to another comment in the order they read it, grow up.

  • @westkan "grow up"? ಠ_ಠ ... I made a tongue in cheek comment. People who don't know me misunderstood it. I took the comment down, yet people keep commenting to me about it, and you're telling ME to grow up? Goodbye.

  • @DontFriendInviteMe my trees would stop you first:-)

as others have correctly posted watch?v=oLDS8fONaM4

  • @GREENPOWERSCIENCE DOH! Didn't you read my response to them? LOL! I may have a different account name, but I've been watching your videos for years, Dan. As I said, I was being sarcastic. You've never made a video that I haven't already seen.

  • @DontFriendInviteMe "I'd hate to be the helicopter or plane that flies in the path of that beam"

Learn about how light and lenses work before posting a comment :P

  • @TheReasonWhyGuy OMG you people need to read more than one comment before commenting back to someone. Holy crap you people are jerks!

  • @DontFriendInviteMe if many people are saying the same thing about your comment, and they are annoying you.

Try removing your comment, since it's just inviting people to reply.

  • @TheReasonWhyGuy Actually, I had decided if I got one more reply from this video, I would come back and remove it, just because I'm not going to keep repeating myself. I guess yours is that reply.

  • @DontFriendInviteMe

Flying your plane into that beam has probably cooked your brain when it went into it via your eyes - it's that intense.

It should be called "Mega Death Ray".

  • @callmeshane303 whatever

  • Dan you are going way out in left field on boiling 20 oz of water with a thousand dollar solar reflective dish like that. Why not boil water in a pot with a smaller unit that is more controlable. What good is this monster unit?

  • @JimFariello This was just a demonstration. It wouldn't be practical to boil water with a setup like this. I think it was cool. It's pretty impressive how fast the water boiled.

I like the fact that Dan shows some things that aren't so practical. It gets my brain juices flowing and gives me ideas.

  • Do you sell these? please say you do!

  • someone needs to take this "simple" technology and commercialize a SIMPLE way for the average joe to build / buy one and hook it up to ? to augment energy usage. ... any ideas?

  • You're brilliant... keep doing what you are doing....

  • Perfect for making Kraft Mac & Cheese.

  • such a convenient way to boil water...

  • "Wow" Dan that is the death ray of doom! On Japan TV thats impressive and cool!

  • You said not to store the parabolic water lens upright, but you do.. It prob makes an awesome breeding ground for mozzies too.

Is it time to practice what you preach? C'mon Dan...

  • @locouk They are full of debris from the trees. The water was dark brown, no larvae either.

    watch?v=or008UvidEE when they were clean.

  • Sometimes I wonder if this channel is about green energy or just really awesome ways to burn sticks.

  • @ParadoxPerspective In all aspects, all of our power comes from boiling water. Steam creates force, which in turn creates energy. What Dan is doing is a very low-pollution alternative to boiling this water, possibly eliminating the need for fossil fuels, or radiation to create heat.

  • @theonetrueGiraffe there's a few power plants out west that do this on a big scale. I vaguely remember hearing something about an iron smelter in the sahara that uses the sun.

  • When the nation collapses into some post apocalyptic wasteland, I want this guy on my team. I watch movies like Waterworld and think, if only they had the tools these "green" guys on YouTube have!

  • Thank you and your wife Dan. I've been talking about this stuff for a long time but you two put it on video and now my wife understands. Thank you again

  • great stuff! really inspirational! thanks :)

  • cool. very, very cool.

  • Comment removed

  • hey you know anything about channeling heat?

if you were to take this type of system, and set it so it got something hot,but because of hot riseing or how ever you would channel the heat,do it so the heat heats up a large thing of water or even a large amount of stones, and that would release heat slowly over the night,so you can heat your house for free.

  • @imatelly An option might be to store in waste veggie oil or water with a circulating heat exchanger. If you were to make something like that bulk heat (flat panel water heaters) is a good idea for pre-dish/collector heat increases. This allows for less expensive surface area collectors to do the bulk of the load.

  • @GREENPOWERSCIENCE awsome thanks for the idea

  • @GREENPOWERSCIENCE

I am going to make a rectangular solar concentrator out of 20cm square mirrors - 2 meters wide, 1 meter high.

I have figured out how to machine up all the angles in the timber...

50:1 concentration ratio - NOT super super intense, but more "very fucking hot" and more practical for cooking and heating a LOT of stuff.

  • Impressive !!

  • im not sure if ive ever posted on any of your videos as yet, but i have watched loads of them for a long time now, i love what you are doing and am quiet jelous at times, that mirror looks amazing, if you check my channel i have a solar collector ive made but its nothing compared to this monster! man i wish i had one of these !

  • pretty sweet

  • they cam for your girl and turkey lol

  • Nice...you make me want to translate this tech to my permaculture project...long live the mad scientists !!!

  • congrats on doing that show, can't wait to see it

  • :)

  • ok cool. what for? how would you use this thing?

  • @crosspecans Heat exchanger for heating or steam engine power.
