• who gives a fuck about the Tango!

look at that Volkswagen squareback at 0:15!

  • Video was shot from a motorcycle. I put it on our web site so that people could see what lanesplitting looks like to the driver/rider. One makes a decision before passing each car, deciding if safe, or not. If not, just wait, until space opens up.

Living in Washington where lane splitting is illegal, I haven't had the chance to video lane splitting with the Tango. I have however passed 1,000s of cars lane splitting with the Tango in CA. Crotch rockets leave me behind, but I keep up with Harleys.

  • Brilliant! Seems to me this would be especially helpful for emergency vehicles. I know any smart, beautiful women would want to be in a Tango to go to a concert or ball game knowing that traffic, parking, and weather wouldn't be an issue.

  • Since the Flintstones-era (the 1950s!), people have been dreaming of driving like that in rush hour traffic. Excellent!

  • that aint no Tango fo sho.

  • A car dosn't lean to turn like this one when it weaves in and out of traffic... I call bullshit. it's a bike. Unless it has some new tech camber sus that lets the car lean into the turns.

  • I think he was probably holding the camera against the top of the steering wheel. So it made the camera lean when he turned.

  • right on, I didn't think of that.

  • but the camera is at bumper height. i call bs too. it's a bike.

  • The Tango is very short so the steering wheel might be bumper height. I still think it's a Tango, although I don't really know.

  • Drive carefully and the video shows that lane splitting is great with a Tango. Don't drive carefully and no rules will help. They get by in Europe with real tight spaces. The accidents are low because with urban Europeans dealing with tight streets is second nature. Americans can do any thing as well as Europeans.

  • Note that that wasn't a motorcycle, that was a guy driving a Tango - a 2,000 lb electric car that can go 0-60mph in under 4 seconds.

Not only is it legal in California to lane-split, but if anyone were to open their door to their car in front of a 2,000 lb car going 40mph, they'd be in a world of hurt.

  • I agree with equitaur. but if the traffic is totally stopped, you can do it no problem.

  • lane splitting is not legal in all areas, and is unsafe in many more, because of it's unpopularity, as it's seen as "rule breaking" As a motorcyclist, I would recommend against lane splitting, even if you have a cage around you, until you are familiar and comfortable with the mores amonsgt the drivers on your roads.

BTW, the tango is really cool looking!

  • Yes lane splitting is unpopular. But it doesn't "hurt" other drivers, they just get angry because they have to sit there while someone else can go ahead.

I think it should be legal everywhere with some rules like: Less than 40 mph, so you can't split lanes when traffic is moving along fairly well, only when traffic is slow or stopped.
