I think this proves two things;

1) How nations can be bought together with a common interest such as football like in this film and the world cup

2) The fact that these soldiers had no clue what they were fighting for. They were just taking orders from faceless enforcers. We cannot even say that most of these soldiers were bastards as fighting was forced upon many of them. They had no choice, if they did, they would probably choose peace

War has changed. A lot. Especially since this war is 100 years old. No longer is war restricted to the battlefield. I think its more like guerilla warefare now and smaller scaled battles. I think the types of objectives has changed also.

WWII (War between Axis + Allies): Take Normandy, Take back Red Square, Take Berlin.

War on Terrorism (kind of an abstract target): Kill terrorists, find Weps of Mass Dest. (see, no real specific objective)

Read between the lines guys ai!!!! short film but the fact this did happen in WW1; it must have been difficult to commence shooting after that!

I have been to war (x gulf war) i did not see my enemy close nor talk, that would be a downfall, shows that the old days the act of chivelry still carried on to end of ww1! i salute you Britts for what you did for us.

Earlier in the film, a British soldier trades his cigarettes for a chocolate bar with a German.

At the end, the same Brit is fiddling with his lighter, and when he reaches into his pocket for a smoke, he finds the chocolate bar instead.

just earlier he was trading cigars with this guy he just met. then he has to shoot at that very person. put urself in his shoes. he has to kill someone who has given him chocolate wen he is in the worst conditions. its a mind game dude.
