I have had 4 duramaxes, current one is a 08 with just a 4 inch non dpf exhaust and a programmer, factory posi had teeth missing of the stupid gov gear after a little hard driving in the snow. Done it before too, you won't usually even know it until you visually inspect the rearend, Smitty
@944g37 It has a yukon rear gear and 4.56 gearing and a Mag-Hytec cover currently but when this video was made it was all stock.
Either way, the diff is not the weakest point on a duramax drivetrain IMHO. Tie rods, centerlink , CVs and basically all of the 1/2 ton front end will break before the factory g80 rear diff even gets hot.

Had to pile in some logs in my truck bed and shovel some snow. lol. its not a power thing, its a weight thing. you could have put 20 more people in that truck and the dodge would still pull it through the snow. As long as you have 4bolt main and 4x4 and some decent tires you can do anything with a little skill.

If your comparing parts from one brand to the next, I can tell you that a new tranny for my 02 chevy blazer cost just as much as a new one for my F350. why is that? I dunno but its the truth. Repair costs have more to do with the people you hire to repair and their mark up than the dollars to dollars comparison of one part to the next.

@Tigersfan829 My F-350 Diesel dont get bad mileage. repair costs are in the eye of the beholder in my opinion. Every truck breaks. If your comparing parts from one brand to the next, I can tell you that a new tranny for my 02 chevy blazer cost just as much as a new one for my F350. why is that? I dunno but its the truth. Repair costs have more to do with the people you hire to repair and their mark up than the dollars to dollars comparison of one part to the next.
