  • THank you guys for the great info and exmaples!!

i just started making videos myself.

and ive learnt alot from watching your vids, hopefully I CAN IMPROVE WITH TIME!

  • Hate to be a bother, but I have noticed what I can only refer to as "flash images" in a number of videos I have viewed in the educational stuff (check out section around 4:30, image is of a pair of Canon cameras) I don't know if you intended this, or youtube screwed the upload somehow.

  • The "flash images" are used because YouTube uses the center point of a video as a thumbnail. You'll probably notice that the flash images are right at the midpoint of a video. It's intentional.

  • I'm an idiot. I actually did not know that.

  • guy in green got film presence other guy no good get rid of, green shirt guy wold b good in some quirky Dovsteisky Crime and punishment type thng

  • i have 8 or 9 tapes full of point and shoots, alot of them are unwatched

  • i have 20 taopes in total and 18 of them ae full of stuff i dont want to tape over LOL

  • great

Where are you gys put up?

  • We're from Buena Park, CA. South of L.A.

  • would you agree with me that the intro to little miss sunshine had great cinimatography. and due to that start i wanted to watch the whole of the film (its also just a great film in my view)

  • Heh, LMS is part of the opening shots project (supposedly having one of the greatest opening shots in recent films). So yes, I'd agree with you.

  • "Writing" may be too naive a word. A screenplay establishes the mood and setting of a film, namely the opening shots, which the cinematography must interpret, like a blueprint. As Robert McKee noted, writing is the only original art in filmmaking; everything else is interpretive. Or as Frank Capra said, "It's the hardest part of the whole racket."

  • And sound design is most definitely of utmost importance. I think we're all going in bizarre directions with this. I want good cinematography no less than I want good acting or good directing, etc... But sound and screenwriting are perhaps the two most overlooked crafts, versus the more obvious [and popular] elements in a movie.

  • That was a really good episode... I hate writing..I've never liked it...

  • The most important part of filming is sound and sound FX. You could have the best dialog and look, but without sound, it's boring. It's like tring to watch Texas Chainsaw Massacre without ever hearing the saw, running foot steps in the woods, people screaming and so forth. Also, the climatic music per scene really helps to deliver the mood the director wants the viewers to feel at the time. :o)

  • Like Peters, though. It's subjective. Film is a collaborative medium, it needs more than 1 thing for it to work successfully.

  • I know, I was just commenting on sound being one of the biggest parts or at least it seems to be. Everything I read on film making, it seems like they try and push this point more then anything else. I'm big into watching movie commentaries and it's the same when they talk about their movie. Like the Saw IV commetary with the director. He goes on and on about sound in the autopsy part of the film. :o)

  • Nice, I just noticed that you guys wear the same clothes on every episode.

  • Greenscreen T!!

  • Haha, yeah. We actually thought about making a green t-shirt that says "Chroma Key" on it :)

  • With the characters "Chroma Key" in blue(screen):D

    Keep the good work!

  • "aaand they just talked about stories. and i think that's the essence of movies."

"...but then they... made cave wall paintings."

    LOL

  • hehe :D

  • Cinematography, I think thats what captures the attention of the audience more.

  • both are equally important. Im more into writing since cinematography isn't my forte.

  • ... And Peter I think cavemen were too busy with hunting Mammoths and Saber tooth Tigers to have time for campfire stories... lol

  • You guys shoot in 24fps.

  • Yep.

  • Thought so. There seems to be a lot of motion blur.

  • Yeah, we turn off the shutter, too. There usually isn't very much motion in our videos, so we like having more control with the iris.

  • Oh, I see.
