I like bill i think he is right on the ball most of the time, but a guy doing world war 2 reenactments as one of the German soldiers dose not make him a Nazi. Some one has to play the bad guys and there was a lot to respect about the German military at the time. They were well a trained well equipped force. Just because there leadership were a bunch of murdering raciest did not make the whole German army evil, and paying a German officer in a reenactment dose not mean he agreed with Hitler.

@xaviqaz That's quite the exaggeration, when you look at population densities. There are few densely populated "red states" and often it is a case of a mix that's slightly more red than blue in the red states.

Making up stuff to "prove" your opinion is just wrong. Looking at a simple blue and red map is not good fact checking.

Making satirical fun of unqualified and ill-equipped political candidates is a far cry from hating methinks. Considering that this is primarily a comedy format—not a purported news program—I think a slightly different standard applies. The day you call out Limbaugh and Beck and Hannity and Coulter and Savage for what *they* do, I'll give your complaint a bit more credence.

secondly, the fall back of 'my guy is a comedian, so leave him be' is always applied to sacred cows like stewart, colbert, and maher. i think stewart's exact words were "i'm on after puppets." these comedians love to tear down public figures - "pwn" tucker carlson on his own show, or "destroy" jim cramer - but think they are immune from public scrutiny. its a cowardly defense.

They love to tear down public figures because, uh, that's what they do for a living. They don't give financial advice while in the back pocket of Wall Street (Cramer); they don't send out e-mails pretending to be someone else (Carlson).

i understand your point. all i'm saying is that its fine if they want to humiliate public figures - deserving or not - they should have the balls to take some criticism. i'll give it to maher, when he's criticized he defends himself on his own merits. jon stewart dodges the question with some holier than thou b.s. of being above the fray. liberal comedians should acknowledge that they themselves are powerful, influencial public figures that influence literally bus loads of young voters.

@wayfarin John Stewart never claims to be a news person, but his show is the one that has time and again proven to be the best one for finding out what is going on in the news; and he doesn't just pick on conservatives, he picks on everyone.

Yes, he is a comedian, so he gets to play a bit fast and lose with things. But he doesn't. He simply has a lot of fun with the fodder that others give him through their own stupidity. That's not "b.s." that's how political comedy works.

@gemini1766 Jon Stewart never claims to be a news person YET..so many young people go to him for news told in a humorous way.. Many in his audience figure if Jon is to the left so must be the main streem American young people.. And so it goes that tribal mentality rules the day and anyone in his audience would feel "out of place' to boo him.

Tribal mentality is when people go along with hate of a group fearing the group would turn on them if they speak up and say "hate filled humor is wrong".

Also find it intriuging that you would attempt to use terms coined in psychology to make such blatant generalizations. There is a differance between sarcastic rhetoric and hate filled rhetoric, and some people just dont like it, but i seriously doubt that it's conformity that is geting them ratings, and prevents the audience from booing.
