Very nice... but, it's probably just because your not taking the recording seriously, but your phrasing is just a bit short. Try to just phase at the end of phrases instead of stopping them like that. But honestly overall it was an extremely good performance, good tone, nice control of intonation and a fairly decent vibrato 5 stars
As said before, your tone does waver with your vibrato. I use throat vibrato which doesn't affect the tone, and allows for one to be much more musical when performing something soloistically.
Imagine an egg in your mouth and you're opening your mouth and throat wide enough for it to sit in there without breaking. That's how open bassoonists have to keep their throat open when they play. :) Hope I could help.
yeah, it sounds a bit like it. it still sounds great, haha. ive got the same problem actually... saxophone, which uses lip vibrato, is my primary, and i have yet to figure out air vibrato without blowing an overtone or getting ridiculously sharp
I play the bassoon and I produce a vibrato from my throat. I had to learn to relax all the way through my vocal column. By doing so, I was able to contract muscles just slightly so I wouldn't affect the color.
The german type of the basson is called a fagott. There are two types of basson, the French one and the German one. They Freanch one is said to have a more voice like sound, lik many French instruments. The german one is easier to play and has a rich sound, i think.
Fa-got' (pronounced with the accent on the second syllable) is the Spanish word for "bassoon", and has nothing to do with the English word "fagot". Hope this helps you.
As a musician myself, I think you're brave to post a video of yourself playing, leaving yourself vulnerable to the shark pool that is this comments section! I thought it was lovely. :o)
I know I'm months behind these other comments, but here are my two cents:
We have to remember that this is a lullaby, and so we have to assume the role of its singer. Honestly... does YOUR mother sing you to bed with a Wagnerian belt? (I hope not.) While I agree that this excerpt calls for a controlled vibrato, it should be very soft and maybe even sparse. Not every note should warble...
uh yeah right ur mistaken its not played wrong so shut up i have heard this song and her playing is good so unless u play the bassoon keep ur comments to urself
I DO play the bassoon, and I study with one of the greatest teachers in this country. I've performed this piece several times... even if I hadn't, music isn't meant to amuse the players. It's meant to move and audience to feel something foreign. My comment reflects that completely, thank you.
I've never said that... My comment is more for students that play it for the first time. I played it many years ago, when I was in high school and I have practiced a lot. Notes are easy, but when you're a student, souding great could be difficult and vibrato too. This piece needs a controled vibrato and for students, the more easily way to develop it is to practice the piece without first and add it after.
The notes should hang in the air a little more

@Tech502
I got a question. How do you produce the vibrato here. With the tongue or airflow?
Pudersepp 2 years ago
idk, i play clarinet and i move my lips up and down in a vibrating fashion which is probably wrong...
Tech502 2 years ago
@Tech502 try moving the jaw instead of the embouchure, it will make the vibrato more obvious and less damaging to your overall playing

Just curious; are you using lip vibrato or normal air vibrato?
JamesonTee 3 years ago

I liked the playing. I was conflicted on whether or not to use vibrato when I performed it, and I wish I had used more xD.

Yes, you need some vibrato when you play it, but practice it firstly without. Vibrato will comes alone after.
