@Sharpoon The music is not meant to be innovative on that album, Rick Rubin said that he kept the music fairly simple so her voice was the standout thing. She is by the far the best female artists to top the album chart in the past 5 years.

The only reason why here album has done so well is, instead of getting modern day pop songwriters, she has got songwriters back from the 60's/70's to write songs for her. So in theory her music is 'mainstream', just not 'mainstream' by todays standards. While she may have a good voice, what she does is so cliche and has been done countless times before...
