I've follwed this and a great help but I'm at the last stretch. I inserted cable #3 fine then the other two and they 'clicked' but I can't slide my glass back and slot it into place because cable #2 seem too short to reach. I don't understand how this is the case because the cable is the same length as the one i replaced...and pointers?
Hey everyone. If this video has helped you save your phone and money, please donate a couple bucks. See link in description. Thanks to those that have already donated!!
Great video, just fixed a 3gs and it works perfectly. Thanks. Wish the videos that repair digitizers etc had mentioned the delicate nature of ribbon 3 or that the phone HAS TO BE OFF when reconnecting. I did this to two iphones and still have to fix the other one.
A friend of mine appears to have the same trouble with his iPhone. I informed him, and thus informing you all as well, before attempting to repair or handle any electronics circuits.
1. GROUND yourself. This is normally done by wearing a bracelet on your wrist which is connected to a ground source (if unsure do NOT do this. You might get hit by lethal current).
2. Ribbon cable is very delicate. Try not to fold it hard at any point. Just insert in the socket and lock it there. DON'T squeeze it!
Recently I opened my iPhone 3G to clean it up and unfortunately I broken the pins on the ribbon cable 3#. ..but then, thanks to your video I was able to fix it!! :)
Hey this worked for me! Note to everyone trying this it takes quite a bit of prying to unclip the metal bit. Just shimmy a small screwdriver down between the metal case and the black backing of the flex cable and lever it up by the sides. Dont be too fussed about scratching the cable because that it the bit you will be replacing.
my speaker and proximity sensor were not working after this my speaker works now the proximity sensor doesnt but to be honest the speaker was the most important and i can live without the sensor great video and really easy a big thanx
I explained that this is one way to do it and it has helped me and others. If you have done it a different way you should post a video. That way people in need of help will have two ways to approach this issue.
Hey bud, My iphone has a problem, I cannot hear through the speaker and the screen does not turn black when I put it up to my ear. Which part do I need, the speaker, the sensor, or both?
Discodv08: My proximity cable is very loose in the port due to the same problem of opening it too many times... I have now purchased a new one, which is in the post at the mo. I really hope it is not the port which is faulty rather than the cable... was your old cable loose in the port? Cheers
@babadoobasha: no my cable was not loose in the port. You should attempt to put the new cable in and see if it works. If it doesn't then you know it's probably the port. That you have to solder in.
I just recently did this. Spent $5 for the proximity sensor through ebay and followed this video. I probably saved about $70 if I had somebody else did the replacement. Great video and thanks for sharing.
OK, I'm going to attempt this. I've never opened an iPhone before in my life. The new parts are arriving tomorrow... got a new proximity sensor cable yesterday. On my iphone, the promimity sensor and earspeaker don't work so I'm guessing I have the same problem as you... I'll let you know how I get on..
you know the little tab that lifts up on the proximity connector where you insert the ribbon? well , ya that broke off my phone. i'm trying to find that peice online. although, once i get it i have to i think sauder it back on. :(
@ThenZ6 i broke this on my phone too, i don't think you need it if you put a tiny piece of circuitry tape over the cable after you secure it in the connector. i will keep you posted once i replace this cable on my phone.
ive just ordered the part .ive changed the LCD and glass screen recently but when put it back together the light doesnt go off when put next 2 my ear and i cant hear unless the loud speaker is on so in guessing this will solve the problem .. does the metal casing which goes on the back of the LCD screen hav any thing to do with this part as mine was slightly damaged ( miss shaped) ?
@prestongunner: That shouldn't effect anything. My metal casing looks damaged too from me prying it open. But it's just a metal casing and shouldn't effect your cable.
@discodv08 yes i have and it works perfectly :) go to we fix mac for all iphone parts i have found its cheaper compared to other suppliers and works like a charm :)
I am going to attempt this! Since I got this iPhone more than a year ago I have had to cope with holding the iPhone wierd :S does the proximity sensor have the speaker too? Cuz mine stopped working now too last time I opened it.
@discodv08 although i couldnt use the earseaker i could turn the phone onn speakerphone and it worked. SO until you fix the proximity sensor, try using speaker phone or headphones
i just replaced the sensor, just like you did, and it works!, my problem was people couldn't hear me, but now they do. even though the screen will not go black while on a call, it is small issue i could not stand. i bought an Otter box shell that keeps my ear from touching the bottoms. problem solved!!! thank you!
Hi there. Thanks for the video. I tried to fix my proximity cable and I noticed that I actually broke the little white socket on the mother board. In that little socket there is a small black attach that holds the cable 3 in place. now.. do you have any suggestions on how to fix it?
Like if you didn't "donate a couple of bucks"...

Why the music? Why not do a voice over. The music is really distracting.

That thing is a ***** to get off but it worked! Tip: don't be afraid to pry for your life because the cable under it is going in the trash anyway
