@scooter14441 Sort of early mines. Although they have to be set off by a nearby unit so it's not like they are triggered by stepping on them. Used during european wars in the 18th century (1700-1800) Source; ETW ;)
Only light infantry units can lay fougasse when your army is entrenched, i.e. it has been immobile for 2 turns and is attacked. However, in my game, fougasse only explodes once spreading shrapnel. This video seems to use some mod that replaces that shrapnel with grenades.
Some patch also broke the puckle gun and it's range was reduced to 45 yards or something so it became totally useless as even line infantry has a greater range.
@meshafi the fougousse u see here is the more advanced version, u get it with the more advanced light infantry like green jackets, ones that shoot 125 range
trust me i played empire total war for more than 300 hours total there is no fougasse in empire total war. probably napoleon total war. the title lies.
@yundawitch its a trap which is deployed like trenches and those anti-cavalry spike, but only light infantry can place them and they work like claymore
I love how empire total war can imitate WW1/WW2 eg: rockets for the russians, mines for the Persians(terrorists) and puckle guns for the Germans (machine gun) not to mention being able to do beach landings and set up trenches! :)
@Devistator308 it's awesome , my advice is to get it... I was playing Shogun2 but I don't like the era and the whole samurai theme and stuff although it is nicely done. I'm instaling this tomorrow to play again :D
This really isn't worthy of a single thumbs up, besides, WW1/2 didn't use tactics that would suit the Total War series and there's so many other WW RTS games around.
Look up Company of Heroes, best God damn World War 2 strategy you'll play.
bombardment mortars with percussive shells outclass both the 24 pounder and the 4 inch mortars; organ guns will do more damage than rockets (and half the units on this roster) in many situations.
@ThePerson158 Believe me I know -_-. I was really far in my campaign as the French and finally was able to build some rockets. I used like 8 or 10 in a battle and they did ABSOLUTELY NOTHING! I was pissed.
@ThePerson158 Not really. Damage isn't always the key. Morale plays half the outcome of the battle. The rockets scare and deplete morale off enemy units. Image marching in a line across a field, while being targeted by muskets, and then seeing a huge array of rockets coming towards you. Now, I know that I would crap my pants if I was there, and you would probably too.
A fougasse (pronounced /fuːˈɡɑːs/) is an improvised mine constructed by making a hollow in the ground or rock and filling it with explosives (originally, black powder) and projectiles.
My first battle ever was a disaster. I had no idea about the mortars.....until my opponent used 5 units in my first match. Needless to say I did not get close to his lines at all.
So people know what this is about.... pickle guns lob jars of pickles at the enemy and the foulgasse guns lob containers of foul gas which is concentrated farts compressed into a jar.
@aznpwnerp canister basically turns the cannon into a giant shotgun and shrapnel is more like a modern day cannon where it shoots a single projectile that explodes on impact and little pieces of shrapnel go everywhere
@ForgottenSouI i think you have to leave an army with light infantry on the map somewhere so they fortify or whatever its called and you will have the option of placing the fugasse during the time when you set up your army
the balance problem of thsi isa that if NTW artillery would be liek this, it would practically be all in base of artullery. no infrntry no calvary, thta is why qall thsoe weapons were nerfed on NTW
@reanactingjerseyguy It does under certain conditions. But if you have an open field in front of you with a few puckle guns and some men guarding them, they do enormous damage. Even if they miss half the shots, I've routed entire armies just because of the fear effect it gives off. try using them in a formation like this;
lines are line infantry, ^ are puckle gun regiments
\__^__/\__^__/
they should have overlapping fields of fire, and be able to basically hit anything threatening eachother
@reanactingjerseyguy I've never had that experience on VH/VH, but even if it is true, it reloads in seconds and has infinite ammo so it can keep up a constant barrage.
@reanactingjerseyguy Very Hard Campaign Difficulty and Very Hard Battle Difficulty. standard format for saying your difficulty in Total War games, at least on the forums it is. It might be backwards but I have Very Hard for both so yeah

IT might not be a slider, it might be a pop-down menu, I dont remember.but you'll see it
@ShootANerdMaster Pretty much, they did. Artillery would soften enemy lines. Then, when infantry were in range, they would fire about 2 volleys before charging with bayonets. With a successful cavalry flank, you would crush your enemy's will to fight, and they would retreat. I like your sword-in-hand with pistol-in-holster idea, tho. Imagine the 300 Spartans with it.
@zion653 yhea but they gave up medieval styled armor and knights if they had kept themeselves fully armored and just carried a pistol with some cannons in the back lines guarded by heavy knights it would have been awesome kinda like the polish reiters but a full army of them
I tend to disagree with the "complete" useless ness of rockets, although immobile(?) and rather inaccurate, they can do serious damage to buildings and to armies in sieges, good for rooting out camping units and eliminating an entrenched army.
@TheWoodstock2009 when you besiege a enemy city after a certain amount of time they will come out and attack you. light infantry can deploy fugasse's just like line infantry can deploy trenches
@TheWoodstock2009 A fougasse (pronounced /fuːˈɡɑːs/) is an improvised mine constructed by making a hollow in the ground or rock and filling it with explosives (originally, black powder) and projectiles. This technique was used in several European wars, the American Revolution, and the American Civil War. The term is still used to describe such devices.
@bob4o99 No, its a landmine your riflemen can use when they set up fortifications before a battle starts. Trust me it is effective when being attacked head on.
Fugasy is probably the first mine. But Empire total war is historically incorrect, since Confederate troops used the fuggase against Union troops. ( Civil War)

All I can say is- Wow! I have not used some of those weapons. I will have to try them. Truly horrifying weapons to say the least. Great video and the song was very appropriate!
The Fougasse is really effective if you can get your enemy in to narrow areas like between buildings. of course they bring down the building too. But if you lure the enemy inside a building with a militia unit and the place the bombs out side so another enemy unit sets it off you can kill a crap load of enemy for the cost of one militia unit. It has worked for me on occasion.
