Old cartoons were the best, this new stuff sucks. What does adventure time teach you, how to be a retard. Old shows like this showed there is justice in the world. It actually had a point to the story. And not to mention the joker in this cartoon was badass.
CN is gay as fuck now. :P I remember watching this show as a kid. In 1992 was the year it came out which is the year I was born on. Man I want this show back so bad. :) I refuse to expose my future children to that adventure time and the regular show bs thats freaking creepy and weird that brainwashes the audience. Batman tas was and always will be one of the best cartoon shows of all time and it what every modern day kid should watch thumbs up if you where born in the 1990s and agree with me
I know it's just one of many versions/interpretations, but this series had so much influence on how I view the character. This is the version I like best. This is MY Batman.
I never saw the series I was born in 2000 but my Dad did get me a dvd of TAS but I lost the disc but anyways I watched The Batman then The Brave and the Bold but that dvd CHANGED MY LIFE MY MIND ALMOST EXPLODED FROM SO MUCH AWSOMENESS
The newer incarnations of Batman cartoons are okay. They are targeting a different audience, after all.
But this, gentlemen, is more than just a Batman cartoon. It is the beginning of an entire animated universe, one that ran for more than a decade, ending with Justice League Unlimited. For those who weren't fortunate enough to have a vast collection of superhero comics, the DCAU is the best superhero cartoon series ever.
You mean that show that not only pays a direct tribute to BTAS in "Legends of the Bat-Mite" but actually cameos Bruce Timm and Paul Dini? Yeah, "screw" that show.
It's probably because it isn't "dark", right? Go watch "Chill of the Night" from BBatB. Really, BTAS never actually deals with Batman directly confronting his parents murderers. Strangely, Brave and the Bold does.
@TheTrueLegend Kudos to you for watching Brave & The Bold, but whenever I turn on the telly and watch it, I just get bored and switch it off... Yes it's great that they pay a tribute to Timm and Dini, but honestly, Brave & The Bold is just plain boring...
Yes I like TAS for it's dark theme but I love that it really is ONLY Batman and no other Superheroes like the Blue Beatle or something... The villians are hella better and the plots and the storylines... Sorry, just not a Brave & Bold fan.
They always end up in the same alley, climb the same damn rooftop, have the same fight, and always end in up in the same damn tied up position, waiting until the cops come.
I can see this intro but replace batman with spider-man. *criminals blow up bank* *Peter switches from normal clothes to Spider-man* *Climbs up the building following the crooks* Instead of throwing the bat-a-rang he uses web balls. Uses the same acrobatic movies, and ties them up with web. *Camera pans up, and reveals Spider-man, crouched in a gargoyle-like position, facing downwards* *Lighting*
this was the best cartoon from the 90s cartoon network had. I watched this everyday after school. The new films are no where near as good as these simple amazing cartoon shorts.
THIS and the Justice League were truly two of the greatest shows ever made. They have what only a handful do; great characters, complex writing, dark themes, fascinating stories, and memorable voices. You just forget that they're cartoons.
It will be quite a long while till they create something as terrific as this (if ever).
@HardCoreConkerFan26 Brave and the Bold is more reminiscent of the Adam West show. they're two totally different Batmans (Batmen?). and, as a tribute to the cheesy Adam West show, Brave and the Bold succeeds. watch the Music Meister or Bat Mite Presents episodes; they're corny, but tons of fun. this is the serious show, Brave and the Bold is the campy show.
@CuriousGeorgeMonkey9 eh, I give em credit for trying to do something different (they easily could have just rehashed plots like Heart of Ice), but it didn't work out all too well...
I liked the idea of a show about Batman just starting out with a young, inexperienced Bruce Wayne encountering all of his famous villains for the first time.
I also heard that the Penguin (voiced by Tom Kenny no less) was really really good (but that's just what I've heard)
@SonicSnail95 Agreed. Tom Kenny's voice-work as The Penguin was...interesting, but in the end, it ended up being a joke. The first two seasons are okay, but the last three are all over the place.
This was the best intro for the best cartoon ever made. But one thing I never understood was why the police were using blimps. Did GCPD not have any helicopters?
I had enough with the Batman: The Brave and the Bold bashing here. B:TAS is one of my most cherished childhood memories and is a fantastic show, but The Brave and the Bold is another type of show altogether - one that picks out every rarely talked about aspect of the rather silly Silver Age era and making them pretty entertaining. It does a pretty good job at it too. Batman doesn't need to be dark and broody all the time, nor does he have to be as campy as Adam West's Batman.
@xXMikotoNakadaiXx well said .i am a hardcore batfan but still i enjoy b:bnb .it is really an awesome show. Its more of an homage to entire 80 years legacy of batman
This. While I prefer TAS because I do like the gothic (pun intended) Bats better, and this was really my introduction to him.. B&B is a loveletter to the Silver Age. It's very much tongue in cheek (such as the Aquaman being useless in-universe running gag, or Plasticman's ridiculous 60s costume) and is highly entertaining.
Man, i coul watch this 50 times over and over! It never gets old! Fuck that crap like Hannah Montana and Jonas! This is the real kids shows. Dark and intelligent. Why cant kids watch this?
@jackJoker89 The only reason I can think of (at the moment) as to why kids now don't watch this is because kids now have no scene of what's EPIC anymore. They go for whatever crap Disney and other Money-grubbing companies feed them. They all want to be like their "idols" (who, might I add, can't tell an trumpet from a saxophone let alone sing without Auto-tune).
By the way, I agree with you: Hanna Montana and the Jonas Shits need a good slap in the face from not only reality, but people like us.
I feel sorry for kids of this generation that have never seen the awesomeness that is Batman TAS. Hell any show that came out around this time was awesome!
Formspring asked me:"What TV show do you wish was still on the air?" I said...
Batman: The Animated Series. The BEST BATMAN Cartoon series EVER!!! Fuck "Batman: The Brave & The Bold"!!! Give us Batman: The Animated Series, EVEN if it's re-runs!!! PLEASE!!!!!!!!
@IceBaine I'd love to see both, myself. TBaTB is like the Adam West era, campy fun. But this... THIS is the best of the 90s-era Batman. And it was one of the best things WB has ever done.
Even though its nearly 20 year since it started, I still have no idea what the hell those police things with the searchlights at the start are meant to be
This series, and the equivalent super-man series were the best of their kind. NO other series could even come close to this. Kids nowadays should be watching THIS. When I was a kid, I watched this stuff all the time, not "Ben 10" and "Johnny Test", mindless TV shows that cause no brain activity, just stupid comedy TV. smh, smh
This is the version of Batman I want to see, the newer shows these days just doesnt capture the way he is meant to be.
A lot of the very best super-hero cartoons were made in the 90s, I would wish they would show these on TV again, instead of creating new, but quality lacking shows of the same character.
GREATEST ANIMATED SERIES EVER!!!!!!!! Fuck all those current cartoons on Nick, CN, 4Kids, and Disney Channel. This show is FUCKING AWESOME!!!!!!! Awesome Animation, Awesome Plots, Awesome Music, and Awesome Characters, especially with Kevin Conroy as Batman and Mark Hamill as the Joker. This show not only redefined animation, it redefined Batman. It was dark, epic, and badass all the way through.
What I love about this show is the subtlety--Batman is a complicated character, you really have to get inside the story to understand him, and this series captured that perfectly. The live-action series from the 60's felt like a (stereo)typical children's cartoon, but the animated series felt like live-action prime-time drama--or maybe more like a feature length film. Consider: Commissioner Gordon trusts the one sketchy private investigator more than his entire police force combined.
When this came out there were huge intrese in making cartoons that could earn in big cash. Now what I know there is not such a great market anymore with cartoons and that is sad. They are for now finding a way of doing cartoons cheaper by either having simple models easy colors and that so much as possible is made by computers and not slower expensive handdrawings.
Back in the days japanese animators was in fafor cuz they where fast! Fastt fast!
@Ahturos true i know what you mean ..im currently 16 years old but ive seen many things 2d animations japanese anime american styles and 3d...these days people tend to do everything on computers its sad cause when i grow up ill probably turn to 3d animation instead of my favourite and most loved 2d...
god nothing is the same anymore.....cartoons,music,film,sports,even video games. The early to mid 90's were the finality a golden era of entertainment.
So why is the new Batman show so damn ugly ,( graphicly) arent things like that supposed to look better with time and not the other way around? same thing for that new spiderman show
No catchy lyrics, no copycat japanese culture randomness, no title flashing batman secondary and tertiary character names. I pretty much would cry if a cartoon of this quality and depth could be revived.
Today is all about little kids playing with magic, fighting other kids, kids with powers, etc. It's a pedophilistic world induce by cartoon network, nickelodeon and disney and we can't escape from it unless we choose anime. Today's toons have no detail, all the animations look the same serialized garbage you can't almost distinguish them. There are no god jokes, no character dept, no well thought action, just repetitive, careless and predictable "I'm a kid and I deserve to be heard garbage".
Its funny how just this short animated intro owns The Dark Knight movie so hard!

Something interesting i found is if you play Batman TAS audio over Batman Beyond opening animation or vice versa it actually fits really well.

I love the art direction of this show.

No catchy lyrics, no copycat japanese culture randomness, no title flashing batman secondary and tertiary character names. I pretty much would cry if a cartoon of this quality and depth could be revived.

Fair enough, TAS > all other Batman sources. But you must admit, if you watched it at all, that Batman Beyond wal also a great cartoon.
