  • Whatever happened to fencing matches that lasted more than 2 seconds? This is just... lame

  • I am a sabre fencer, and even if these guys pretty much only charge agians each other, in term of technics, sabre is much more complex than this.

  • Almost a boring as watching cricket

  • They were never that aggressive back in the old days of fencing. This to be honest is boring! It's almost like halting the fight every second even though they are points.

  • i fuckin love fencing

  • \/ obviously it's 1V1 -_-

  • fencing sucks because it's only 1 vs 1.

  • im starting sabre fencing but hold the sword wrong all the time and my foot hurts after a while got any tips?

  • To all the people complaining about how this isn't real sword fighting, Go learn how to fence. Then come back here and tell me this isn't "real".

  • @ic3p1ck73 In war they use armor... and people don't die from floppy flimsy foils! Try holding a Basket Hilted Broadsword... or a Rapier... and you will understand the difference!

  • @ic3p1ck73 This isn't real fighting. They have zero concern for getting hit. They only care about hitting first. In a real fight, you would definitely care about getting your head cut just to flick the other guy's shoulder.

  • There so cheap, they just try and hit the other as fast as they can and hope there lucky and hit the other guy first

  • sabre fencing is stupid

  • @ferm65

    Your stupid..

  • @Dimitri0809 nice comeback

  • Bruce lee used this style very much for his JKD. In fact, straight punching came from fencing. Thats why i adore this sport so much :D

  • I can't see any sabers here.

  • lol @ the bottle

  • i don't know why, but this video simply will not load for me. anyways. good stuff

  • This is sabre people, its governed by right of way so yes of course they're just going to charge each other. It's human nature to take advantage to what is given to them. Also, correct, they are not real swords so the danger sensation in your brain is shut off making you much more bold. Epee is alot more controlled than this, so go look that up if you want to see "sword fighting". Being said, go try it, get your ass kicked, and come back and tell me it isn't an amazing sport.

  • @Angel0fAnarchy I would look up Historical European Martial Arts instead. They use correctly weighted and balanced weapons.

Right of way was introduced to give respect for the other's weapon in an actual fight. You have to respect the other person's attack, not just stab them in the foot first while you get stabbed through the eye. Unfortunately, the entire point has now been forgotten. (pun intended hahaha)

  • @blossfechter While I agree, i think its only fair to recognize sport fencing as separate from historical fencing for this exact reason. While I more cautious sport fencer could apply what they know to a historical duel, there is still a huge huge huge gap in methodology.

I'll stick with sport sabre. though I must admit Polish sabre (only historical form I've tried) is also loads of fun.

  • if they were using real swords both of these guys would be dead (or seriously injured). I get that it's a sport, but it's a combative sport. It looks as if they have taken away the combat part and turned fencing into an elaborate game of tag.

  • @stanthema Look up Historical European Martial Arts, or HEMA... or just search HEMA longsword (they also use fully weighted military sabers like in this: watch?v=8h-kFONByE0

The occurrence of 'double hits' is punished in HEMA tournaments.

  • They both try to score on each other at the same time. If they dont have the protection, both would be dead! O_o

  • Wow I can't believe I watched that entire video! Fencing sucks!

  • @jasusalmughty wow your a very ignorant prejudice fucktard, no offense

  • @jasusalmughty woosh woosh ping point.

wow, that was fun, lets do it again.

    woosh woosh woosh point.

    One more time?

    woosh woosh

BULLSHIT THIS NOTHING LIKE LORD OF THE RINGS! lets just get some pizza.

  • @RecBookHero seriously you guys keep it to yourselves. Sabre I admit is not that fun to watch unless you really know whats going on but its a hell of a lot more fun to actually do.

  • @p0ps1c1e i know i know, im just trollen.

In secret I really do want to do this, except I would shout "LEEEEEEEEEROOOOOOOOOOOOOOOY JENKENS!" as I "lunge" or whatever.

  • @jasusalmughty Here's a video with realistic military sabers (blunt): watch?v=8h-kFONByE0. They also don't both hit each other at the same time on every exchange.

  • umm......okay......this is just like kids who cant figure out fighting with paper swords

  • @faj15steam

it is one of the sports featured in the olympic games.

  • @faj15steam it is a sport

  • A random guy smiles gayly at the camera at 0:40

  • i can barely follow the strikes, only way i can tell if someone lands a hit is by the "victory dance" of the one who lands it.

  • We should do this, but with claymores.

  • @Darce223 And katanas and kukris.

  • @micahcolister it's already done with katanas it's called kendo

  • @Darce223 Check oit ARMA and SCA, they use claymores, longsword, pikeaxes, spears, flails, maces, dussacks, rapiers, messers, shields and many more!

  • @ThePowerExcess Uh... HEMA (Historical European Martial Arts) is more realistic. Using steel weapons vs. rattan makes a huge difference.

ARMA is lead by a huge douche. Too bad his followers aren't allowed to fight with the rest of HEMA people since no one has a problem with them. You shouldn't encourage people to look them up.

  • @Darce223 dibs on the warhammer.

  • @Darce223 the reason they use saber is cuz its a dueling weapon which the musketeers used.Claymore are not dueling weapons, though they can be used to dual but is not flexible as sabre nor as fast

  • Comment removed

  • @Darce223 You should look up 'HEMA longsword' on youtube.

  • saber hurts kind of

  • @freindif Ever been hit in the elbow with a stiff new epee? That's what 'hurt' is!

  • @mosihasteen Ever been hit with a blunt correctly weighted saber? Try HEMA (historical european martial arts). Here's a HEMA saber video: /watch?v=8h-kFONByE0

Rapiers hurt more than an epee as well...

  • 1:40

  • It's TORINO not TORINTO XD

  • you can't even see the swords theyre so skinny!

  • gahhh I just wish the rounds were more than just a lunge from both sides! cross swords!

  • @Smileitstommy haha year, in the pro leagues thats all they do. im in a school fencing team and its fun at training because the rounds dont take 2-4 seconds!

  • The way swordplay is meant to be, now all there has to be are big battles. more than just 1 vs 1.

  • just jump forwards and cheer!

    again and again.

this sport has nothing to do with fencing.

  • @holmganghamburg it has a little to do with fencing

  • fuck you monkeys

  • my dad is the only fencing coach in mobile

  • they should invent a diff type of fencing, i hate our flimsy swords that whip back. we should do it like the medieval days except have full protective armor and an english based longsword ball tipped that way it could be 2 handed because fencing as is gets so damn repedative.

  • @rsboy5 not a boring sport...greatest sport ever.... idiot... learn how to spell -_- "repedative"

  • @7en6estu did i ever say it was a bad sport? i fucking love it and wow 1 word someone really likes to be a doucebag...

  • @rsboy5 i think u'd find kendo more interesting then?

  • @rsboy5 learn to "doucebag" and you must not be good, and if you are, I will see you at summer nationals....

if you can qualify. Giant broadswords as a sport is an idiotic idea...... and it is not repetitive at all. I think it is like a fun game of mental and physical chess when I face someone good. And it was not just one word.

  • @7en6estu i do it just locally at my club im pretty good it just is too much of a mind game for me, and im happy ur going to summer nationals and i didnt mean giant broadswords i actually said 2 handed sword im not sure how that translated to a giant broadsword, i meant like a blend of the katana and the english long to make a 1 sided curved well..giant rapier lol. it would be just funner for me. i didnt mean it to be fun for everyone aka you but for some it seems like a fun idea. =)

  • @7en6estu i see ur also a runescaper like me and i have 99 mage too lol =)

  • @rsboy5 well played sir ! :D whats your username, and are you coming to summer nationals?

I qualified for div 2, 3, cadet and junior :P

btw I stopped playing runescape, I have to train :PP

  • @rsboy5 Ah, sorry, saw your other comment. wheres your club?

if its close, perhaps we can meet up and fence :P

  • @7en6estu fort collins colorado

  • @rsboy5 You should look up an SCA Heavy Tournament.

  • @ZomBLord ok

  • i have no clue who was winning that lol

  • guy on the left got some speedy repost.

but this is really crappy sportsmanship, turn your back and walk away during a match is just bad...

  • i wanted to pick this sport but only for gear they asked me 1000 euros

  • Can Someone please answer me! Im 14 almost 15 is it to late to get started in fencing?

  • @makingalifeoutof0 If you work very hard and i mean 5 days a week you can still make it

  • @DarkGuitarKid My trainer started at the age of 34, he would probably beat most of you ^^.

  • @Pellinore1990 Don't really care what you or your trainer does

  • @DarkGuitarKid I was quoting on the subject meaning that age doesn't matter as long as you have the motivation. Not specifically aimed at you, but if you don't care keep it to yourself.

  • @Pellinore1990 Alright sure thing. So you were basically making the point i was making ; If you work hard you can still make it

  • They aren't swords! They are weapons! In this case sabres!

  • @mjvblue8596 Dude... They're called swords. I love when people turn around and try and tell people they're not swords because it doesn't seem correct. But seriously... They're called swords. Weapons are implements designed to cause hurt. If anything, weapon is a less accurate term. However, I've heard them called weapons before also, although I wonder if that's just because people are too misinformed to call them swords.

    Sorry to burst your bubble.

  • @cameraguy37 technically, ( and while I am not trying to insult you) they're called sabres, it's one of the weapons in fencing.

  • @NilsxSin Yes sir, I realise that this specific one is a sabre, I don't have any issues with you on that point. The point I am making is when people are referring to fencing weapons in general and insist that they may not be called swords that they are in fact incorrect. Thank you though.

  • @Myoosh, You are watching Olympic level fencing. No one is just "hoping for the best"

Go to your local club. You will probably meet a lot of people having a lot of fun.

@ tuerkefechi, "Once upon a time" is when princesses kissed frogs." Bored? Go get two rapiers, two little rubber tips, 2 masks, and a book for beginners with no Maestro. Then find a friend, go in the back yard and flail away. You will suck at it[I do], but it is loads of fun, right up until your arm hurts too much.

  • @BangTheRocksTogether That was the point though. I was watching olympic level fencing, and hence was expecting a lot more parries and ripostes etc per point.. And what it seemed like was 'hoping for the best' on first inspection, or fastest man wins (though im not naive enough to suggest that this is in fact the case, and I admit that my ignorance of the sport skews things). But, don't knock it till you try it hey. I'll give it a shot and no doubt have a v diff opinion ;)

  • Tbh I was considering getting into fencing until I watched videos of it. Correct me if I'm wrong but it looks like two people lunging into each other and hoping for the best. Guess I was naive to think that more parries and ripostes etc would be present for a single point

  • @Myoosh you could try foil or epee fencing instead

  • I thought that you had to place your hand behind your back left of right (depending which other hand you're handing the sword)

  • I feel like my modest fencing club at a state school has more sportsmanship than these guys. Not to say I didn't enjoy watching it, but seeing them try to question the ref (more so the fencer on the left) put me off.

  • @coldfire323 fencing is an extremely intense sport, you put everything into every attack hoping for your light. If they feel they deserved it let them show it.

  • Any martial art where there is no lateral movement (I.E. move straight forward or straight back and not side to side) is not a martial art, it's a combat sport at that point. Entertaining to watch though.

  • @Anathematicmusic still a somewhat usefull skill. I think. If somebody tried to attack me with a sword one day, and like had a sword ya know? i would be able to defend myself lol ^_^

  • Not a fan of saber, too much debating. Damn fencers even have to scream to make it look like its their touch.

  • I don't even think the fencers know who is scoring. Stupid.

  • Give them real swords, make it mean something...

  • Sorry, but this is so boring, without any good form and gas nothing to do with what fencing was. This is olympic sport and it crippled the idea fencing had once upon a time. The most terrible thing is the behaviour of the fencers, after every point thoose stupid poses of triumph, no respect, no honour.

  • Okay, I'm just gonna be that guy that says it flat out: I don't know the rules to this. I mean, it's swordfighting, how complicated can it be? However, I don't get the technical side of this. Someone mind explaining it to me?

  • @Jehosh27 in sabre there's right of way to decide who gets the point if there are 2 lights. For example if u are moving forward while hes moving back and u both hit each other, its your point since that is considered an attack. There are lots of other rules that wud take forever to explain tho lol

  • This looks like Tron

  • I was planning to take a class at this at a community college but I heard you gotta be fast and it hurts?

  • @JiaChen1990 I don't fence, I do kinda like a martial arts with full swords and not this much padding, and if you are unlucky, you could get a scratch or bruses, but it doesn't really hurt. These are much lighter swords and you have a lot of pading. Unless someone hits you in the armpit (hardest place to put padding) you probobly wouldn't feel too much. Go for it. Yes, you have to be fast, but you will gain speed in time.

  • @JiaChen1990 It doesn't hurt, so much a smart once in a while. You may get a few bruises, but it's unlikely. As for speed, it's useful, but if you know what you're doing you can compensate for it. Overall the sport is a ton of fun, even if you aren't the greatest at it. I love it.

  • Directing sabre is very difficult. You have to be a real expert to be able to tell initially that the guy on the left lost right-of-way by landing his front foot before striking.

  • Damn.

Today is my third day of fencing ever...

    I'm a saber/sabre..whatever..

But now, because of this video, if i ever get a touch/touche, i'm screaming like that.

  • I just done a couple of lessons and im really enjoying it, but looking at this video makes it look rubbish. The matches are soo quik

  • Allez!

  • this looks stupid

  • hello i just started fencing and i barley know anything about it

  • the USFA needs to go back to the '94 rules. everyone join the American Fencing League and get away from the "tag".

  • Watching a round of pools helps before fencing the same people in DE's though. You can watch what they do and so won't be completely surprised when you fence them.

  • Also this is fencing all blades foil epee and sabre disregarde defence more than an actual sword fight because if they did act like it was 100% actual sword fight they would not have won against someone who put less emphasis on defence .And finally these two sabre fencer lunge and disregard defence to test their opponents style, tendancies and abilities.

  • @UchihaNitori try to beat someone in any kind of fight being completely unaware of what they can do. try it and see how that works for you

  • @itaku01 I have done that its called fencing in a tounament where both you and your opponent meet for the first time it's very common. I fence and find out everything about them when we first cross blades. Then what happens after those first few points is the better person can adapt to take advantage of their shortcomings. thats how you win. I am not guessing I know this its been proven time and time again.

  • @UchihaNitori ...What?

  • @itaku01 Also i can guarantee you that the better fencer will always win even if the better fencer has never seen the other guy while the worst opponent has seen him fence and analyzed it for hours they won't win unless they have a skill level close to their opponents.

  • All I have to say is that I doubt any of you fence. I am an actual fencer I have fenced foil and saber over the past four years. First yes it is like chess however it is also a sport with strength, technique, and speed. Second saber is simply another branch of fencing which uses strategy you come up with a basic plan and anlyze the opponent as you fence. Also Parrying is simply the simplest way to gain right of way although you can do it several ways.

  • @UchihaNitori yes u have it pinned down pretty well think of saber fencing in chess terms, your objective is to get more checks than ur opponent in the quickest way possible so that you dont risk getting a check against u :P maybe i made it sound even more confusing :o xD!

  • this is pathetic. its a double kill fencing. and that is as far from fencing as possible you can get.

If both had no protection - and their life at stake- then the fencing moves they had been taking woud have been totally different. Then you would have out manouvered your opponent completely before you set your strike- to make sure you did not get killed back. Now- its double kill- fencing- that is when the badest opponent can get to kill the best-

  • @Punishment7

it's not supposed to be sword fighting. it's a sport with rules.

  • @Punishment7 you dont know how to fence do you. obviously if there life we at stake they would go so aggressively. and even if it was. i doubt theyll be going just back and forth

  • @Punishment7 Yeah and if kasperov was really commanding an army, he wouldn't do very well! And if an MMA guy got in a real fight with people he would end up going to jail! And formula 1 racers have terrible gas mileage! And archers don't even have to be in ranks, and no one shoots back at them! Biathlon competitors don't even wear camouflage, and follow a predetermined path, I could totally kill those guys! Marathon runners don't even fight a battle at the finish line! Unrealistic!

  • what are the lights on their masks? And how do I get them?

  • @Rgrifle hahahaha it will be funny when a fencer grabs a real sword and kills ya and your screaming mommy while he's beating u up!

  • I once met a girl at camp who said fencing was a "hobbie" because she thinks football and soccer are pretty much the only sports they should call sports. So I told her does football teach u reflax balance strenght speed fast thinking? or does it only teach u streght and speed? fencing is in the Olympics not football so sersioly she is mixed up!

  • im making a comic call prince of saber fencing and im only 13

  • ive been fencing since 5th grade, and now im a freshman in college. i really love the sport and the romance of it all, but i really find championship/ olympic a turnoff. i mean, all the fencers really do at these levels is just rush to get the right of way and go for it. to me, it ruins the ideal image of fencing as this dynamic, back and forth duel like one sees in the movies. and as i said before, im not a fencing 'noob,' so im not an idiot. i honestly find intermediate lelvel more interesting

  • wooow this is a pretty bad fight -.-

  • this isn't like zorro

  • Comment removed

  • I HATE the etiquette of these guys, in my saber class the instructors tell us to not talk or make any sounds. Not only that my instructor also told everybody to be humble to our opponent by not making any movement about scoring or not scoring a point. If you did that would make you a jerk with a saber not a fencer. Also wheres the five point salute before the bout and the 5 point salute and hand shake to the opponent after the bout?

  • @lovefordante

they are overcompensating because they already know fencing is a sissy sport. they are just trying to look manly.

  • @djalternegro explain why you think fencing is a sissy sport, a trained fencer has lightning reflexes and superb speed.

  • @WeRideTonite

dude i so do not think it is a sissy sport! i LOVE fencing and think it is very manly!!!

i say it is a sissy sport to show what is going on in those fencers minds, and explain why they are trying to act all übermanly because there is no reason to do that! but other people think it is a sissy sport, and that is why they are overcompensating with their egregious dude behavior. in short they are insecure!

fencing is kick ass but for the record i am a sissy and want to do it!

  • @djalternegro ah ok then i misunderstood your comment. hey I'm a fencer myself, don't wait to get started it's so much fun, just be patient, it takes sometime once you can manage yourself in matches ;)

  • @rgrifle what are you gonna do then? wear your KKK costume? oh boy now i'm scared. and fyi an epee, foil or saber will hurt you, you just can't imagine

  • @WeRideTonite Just wondering why the heck they call this sport then sabre fencing most of the time, whilst in reality they use a form of Epee, not Sabres.. ;)

  • @lovefordante

Once you get out on competitions more you'll learn.

  • partying is the most sureset way to gain initiative or right of way,

  • Fencing is an extremely mentally taxing sport. Everything each fencer does is thought of and planned beforehand. Almost nothing is accidental. After years and decades of practice, great fencers have all the muscle memory where they don't have to think of an action to do it. They just do it. Strategies are created in the fencer's mind based on their opponents actions, speed, and style. The first fencer who can properly adapt to their opponent will win.

  • they look like they suck, but yet I dont kow about the sport

  • yjis was the fumbest duel ive seen! two whiners who cant fence for shit

  • too fast, too boring.

  • I fenced saber in college in the 70s before electric and returned to fencing about 12 years ago. The sport has changed. The slightest touch on a cuff scores so whip overs and mal-parries are part of the strategy. Before electric the action of attack was grander as was the parry. A 5 parry was positioned well above your head. Now any parries like that would leave you too vulnerable to any blade contact. Hits made with the flat of the blade or not with a cutting action were deemed passe

  • they completely ruined sabre, i h8 when its gets to such high standard its less thinking more speed. fancing is supposed to be about outsmarting the other person and tatics, not about moving faster than them

  • @illnino98 Here it is thinking at its fastest. Do you fence sabre? if you do you would know what I mean.

  • accordint to the comments if the fights were real they both would be dead?

  • ASSASSIN'S CREED

  • Fake and gay.

  • No. The surest way to gain right of way if through a distance parry. if you rely to much on bladework then they can feint you out. especially in sabre. Also, i fyou rely on bladework and miss the parry on distance will save you. it is all about the distance. but i agree. it is physical chess.

  • God they bitch after every point that doesnt go their way

  • @chaucy9 That's how it goes in fencing..

  • yo , checkout my profile . add me as a friends too :)

  • o they good. except they basically doing the same attacks O.o

  • This is just shameful

  • epee = foil with no rules

sabre = foil with really strange rules

sabre looks obnoxious and fun :-)

  • very nice definition hahaha the epee one made me laugh

  • @Chakookie Saber is fun but hardly obnoxius. It's the fastest and the funnest. You cAN FINSH A BOUT IN LITERALY TO MINUTES. eppe and foil are too slow.

  • their attitude towrds the officials is worse than soccer.

  • @junius80 All fencers are like that, it's because the officials can't always see what's going on.. Timing is sò important..

  • What the hell are you people talking about parrying is the most sureset way to gain initiative or right of way, whichever you want to call it. And having double touches is stupid because sabre is too fast and fencing isn't supposed to be a mock sword fight you noobs, it's more like physical chess honestly. It's more complicated and mentally taxing.

  • in the 90's sabre used to have double touches, which is retarded. and i agree with the whole mock sword fighting. we don't even use "swords" they r weapons.

  • yea haha i love when people call them swords im like NOOB haha but thats pretty interesting. I didnt know they had double touches in the 90s

  • @mjvblue8596 Curious, where did you get such information about double touches in saber?! I've been fencing for 1/4 of a century already, and have never seen a double touch in saber :)

  • The problem is just getting the right distance. Sucks when the blade whips around and you're timed out before the riposte/attack following a parry...

Double touches have worked, but only int he past. Currently as a sport, it would suck if they were in there. If it was in terms of a historical saber duel...I think it would count as the equivalent of a double touch if you were both dead.

  • @Guild176 Yes, parry is one of the ways to take over the right of way, true. However, you still need your reposte to hit IN TIME, to score a touch. The realities of TODAY'S saber fencing, telling us, that executing a parry-riposte action is quite risky with current 140ms timing. You have a great chance to get a whip over, remise, or some other action that will put on the light, of your opponent and will lock out your repost.

  • @Stan4ik75 Gentle men I admire you great love of a true art, and science. If I may I will say that this conversation reflects around a relished point of reference. It is to me a ummm, forgive my grammer, a fusion of offense and defense to defeat you oppenent and gain victory.

  • @georgeregulas O.k,O.K so umm Duu on me. What I was saying is losing time, and initiative, is almost alway bad. So superb attack is ideal, but I have sen old men defeat young champions with a simple parry repost. It kinda looked like a snake though or a Bird of prey. The other guy never lost his point even with a great attack.

  • @Guild176 sabre is the most boring in fencing, FOIL FTW (hell even epee is better than sabre)

  • @Guild176 ...everything you said from noob on made you look completely stupid, lol

  • @dondongo666 thats why i have the highest rated comment, right? Its not stupid at all, anyone who fences knows its a difficult sport. Lol I play ice hockey too and theyre both difficult.

  • @Guild176 They agreed with what you had to say, not necessarily how you said it.
