My favourite Martian tv show used the Theremin and also Plan nine from outer space....Ed wood movie. Like you said Tink...it was the Alien instrument of choice for sci fi tv shows and movies. Awesome find on the 78's...WoW.
Yes... I need a theremin and several large outdoor speakers... I will be the early alert system for the neighborhood... you know... just incase the aliens land or whatnot... Thanks Tink!
Tink, You have GOT to post at least ONE song from that Theremin 78rpm album.... I don't think I've heard of a Therelin before.... PLEASE post one for me....
Happy Birthday Tink!! It looks like you really had one too, with all your unique gifts. I remember I hated turning 50, wanted to hide it, and hang on to 49. At the office they had a huge sign above my desk, guess who turned 50 today, well so much for hanging on to 49. I even got a phoney I've fallen and can't get up button. I never felt so old as I did that week. Enjoyed the theremin demo, I had not seen one before. Wishing you the best, and a great bargain hunting week.
Wow, I didn't know the theremin was that old either. 78's of theremin music is very strange to me. The Star Trek theme was done on a theremin, wasn't it?
There are lots of theremin videos on youtube, if people want to hear them played.
Tinky or Burt, do you or anyone watching have any of those kewl old sound effects LPs? I remember them as a kid in the 60s, often demonstating the advent of STEREOphonic sound. I don't have any now, but am looking at the junk stores. I did not even find any on YT. Some of those are fun. I have Wes Harrison, and some have Chilling Thrilling Sounds of the Haunted House on YT. But not the actual sound FX LPs. We had a set with many volumes back then. Some came with stereo phonographs as a demo.
Happy 50 OLD gal! HA! Welcome to us senior citizens! ;)
The Theramin did precursor Bob Moog, no doubt. I think it was used in sch-fi movies like THE DAY THE EARTH STOOD STILL and FORBIDDEN PLANET. One of my faves was MY FAVORITE MARTIAN when Ray Walston did his finger thing. Dang it girl, it sounded like it was having an orgasm!
You got the coolest gifts, tink. I hope somebody gets me some cool gifts 4 my birthday next month! Hint: some recordings by Red Prysock or Fats Domino would be superb!
Tink! Hands down...this is one of ur most FABULOUS videos! UR Right!! Hours of Endless fun! I want one of those. One of the few new instruments invented in the last century! So AWESOME!!
A very Happy Birthday to you Tink and welcome to the Cinquante Club! Many people think that the theremin was invented for the Beach Boys use in "Good Vibrations" back in '66. That's so very cool that you actually have one!! Hope you have the best of days! - Craig
Watch the original The Day the Earth Stood Still.
