You are so talented and unique. I just wrote a book of Holocaust poetry, many based on my family's experiences. I hope to perform them one day like you do. Meri
I ADORE YOU AND YOUR AMAZING I'm half and half my moms a Romanian Orthodox Christian and my Dads Jewish they raised me to believe in God but that its personal thing My whole family celebrates Christmas and Hanukkah I write poetry myself and YOU INSPIRE me so much and like you have friend of all colors and sizes YOu are an inspiration don't let anyone tell you different.
Vanessa I have been to a couple of your shows and have been listening to you for about 3 years now! You are an amazing woman and I admire your courage and strength. Hate from others is just their in fear because they can never be as free as you. Keep doing what you've always done, beautiful and talented. Ga bless you ma lol
Your VULGAR AND COMPLETELY DISRESPECTFUL comment about drinking the blood of little Christian children and the ALMOST UNBELIEVABLE comment you made about Christ Jesus in this poem does not reflect the "Festive fruit platter" non judgmental persona expressed in your poem titled "Culture Bandit" that you recited on Def Poetry Jam. In the HOLY BIBLE the Jews were God's chosen people. We all sin, If you ask for forgiveness in Jesus Christ Holy name with a SINCERE HEART, God will forgive you.
@etalutargnoc I made a mistake by saying you're right to an extent. If I was saying you are VULGAR directly You're would have been the correct usage of the word. Thank you for your comment.
@etalutargnoc The idea that jews drank the blood of christian children was a stereotype from hundreds of years ago that occasionally reappears. She was making a reference to hateful words said against jews. It wasn't disrespectful of her at all to do so. Your comment that she should ask for forgiveness in Jesus Christ doesn't convey a non-judgmental persona (that of her culture bandit poem). In fact, the brazen proselytizing could be perceived as antisemitic or simply ignorant.
@fangedflower What you're saying is that what hebrewmamita said about Christian children and Jesus Christ is an inside joke within the Jewish Community based on a negative perception of the assumed "Christian" perception of Jews. This is mockery of Christianity and its wrong! In the 7th chapter of St. Matthew's (HOLY BIBLE) the Lord Jesus Christ tells His disciples they will know a tree according to the fruit it bares (Sound judgment). I ask for forgiveness for all of my sins BGLenn.
I saw you perform at UF and you are truely inspirational! I am so sorry you have to deal with people's ignorance, but keep up the great work and art! I enjoy watching your videos and they always bring a smile to my face.
Vanessa, as a fellow female, artist and Jewess I applaud your great courage. You used your horrible and scary incident and turned it into art. Many will be able to identify in their own ways of how crippling and distancing the feeling of hate and jealousy is from ones who are irresponsible with their energies. You turned it around and I again applaud you. You are on the right path for you from what I see and feel. And I am so glad I got to encounter you and your expression. Elizabeth
Thank you for channeling your anger into such fierce, beautiful words. I think you are absolutely right - by speaking out and exercising your potential rather than retreating into the cushion of a conventional, sheltered life of a Jersey housewife - you are defeating all those who hide their hatred hide behind screennames and fake numbers and voting booth curtains.
Honest, open heart....a heart that sings, cries, celebrates, and is proud....keep spilling your words, weaving your passion, exploring your Jewish consciousness......
Vanessa your words are so true and so strong. You are wonderful and an inspiration. Powerful and colorful ! Please continue to create your fierce poetry.
Your words inspire. Your passion inspired me to reignite my faith, you've invigorated my love of writing, and pushed me to explore my own power and ability to speak my mind.
I hope you also have a file entitled "youtube love."
I first watched the def jam video with tears in my eyes because someone else made the noise that I was feeling inside. Then, I read "Hebrew Mamita" during a Chabad Women's shabbat and spread your strength and love to many others.
Very powerful. You know there are Jews of all types and kinds. There are secular morons and religious morons. As well as alot of really cool folks. Don't let the morons get you down. Love your Poetry.
VANESSA-very powerful and intense...I felt that raw emotion. keep doing what you do-use your voice. Admirable and inspirational... beautiful piece. you are one of my heroes. don't stop. your poetry is phenomenable!!! Love it.
My father, a Colombian Rabbi, sent "Hebrew Mamita" to me about a month ago and have been following and rewatching your videos since. You are such a beautiful example of how we SHOULD embrace as many cultures as we find within ourselves and how we MUST respect each other no matter our differences. I'm so lucky because I'll see you perform at NYU in June, and TRUST that I will support you and give you a giant hug. You make girls like me so proud! Paciencia y Fe!
You. Are. Beautiful. Talented. Passionate. People hate on things that intimidate them. Reminding them of their insecurities and shortcomings. Your poetry has touched a lot of people and that counts a hell of lot more than hateful characters thrown together in text boxes on white pages.
Wow...lol. "secretly wishing she was Latina or black.." Well, I thought you were Latina when I first discovered about you. lol. No offense, but you sure can git it just the same (black or Latina) ;)
But this is a powerful piece. And I respect you for getting all that off your chest. And admire how you spoke truth in it. The finish was great.
Its pieces like that from such a beautiful person like you, inside and out, that keep me inspired and true to myself.
