How can i ever get to work on one of those beauties? don't think i fit the job description, no big belly no beard and im only 30! been a seaman all my life and love tugs with a passion but jus know ill never get on one :(
Get rid of the music and just tell us what you are doing. What makes people want to play background music in the first place? Otherwise a U.S. flag tug operation is interesting to us retired U.S. flag folks.
I do miss life aboard fulltime. Been working marine construction for 15 years since leaving the towing industry and great videos like this bring back fond memories. Still working on the water and get to do a little towing but it's not the same. If this vid was shot in the mid morning winter hours with ice building and the wind howling I might have said thanks for the reminder. Very cool vid.
Well your cousin wants you to join him eh. That is GREAT if you are just starting. Hop right in there. Its a perfect chance. I know how its like. Work hard on the tugboat and many tugboats provide training on the boat. My own expierence. Stick with the captain.
is not a tractor, but a stern drive. a tractortug has his or her propulsions forward. according to a dutch( rotterdam ) tugboat captain. i am working on a ( former ) US tractor tug . Named "ZP- Chandon ". Is thear anibody in the Us who now's this tug. befor she came to rotterdam she works in San Francisco Cal. pleas gif me a call
Cool. We are about to get two new ones. With 16/645/EMD E7 x2 i think. 6100 hp. Building it for LNG docking in Lake Charles Louisiana. Im working on a old rebuilt two screw with 5000 h.p. so its gonna be different ball game when we get those tractors.
EMD. Had those in an anchor handler I worked on in Gulf of Thailand, in the 90's. Two strokes. Terrific engine to work on. Only thing I didn't like about them... Noisey. But in a new building? Insist on good sound proofing around the engine room.

Do guys working on tugboats make good money? My cousin works on one, he wants me to join him. What qualifications do you need to work on a tug?
