  • Not as good as the stuff in the Mindreading Exposed ebook

  • wow total scam...

  • The whole point of this was to show how each of our own perspectives can be very limiting. We need to see the whole picture and have all the evidence before jumping to conclusions about how things work. Like not just believing in God because it sounds like a good idea or because you feel obligated to.

  • @AaronHubler Very well put Sir !

  • I would be shitting myself if I were her

  • lol Which is why he's kept anonymous until the last race... xD

  • Excellent example of why the "fine-tuning" argument for the existence of God is crap.

  • she's talking this really well

  • that would have been funny if derren would have left with her money

  • But didnt she just win money on the last bet of $150? So why does she need to borrow now?

  • @omnissient Because she thinks the system works and since she believes the system works it only makes sense to get as much money as possible to make even more. Would you bet $1 or $1,000 on a GUARANTEED win?

  • OMFG HOW DOES IT WORK?

  • I hope the losers got their money back from the TV network or something like that.

  • wow thats terrible to do to those ppl... hope they payed for their losses

  • there were losers (filmed but not shown) that they paid back. of course they will only show the winner duh!

  • everyone is part of the system

    that's the main theme. i guess ==

  • Oh please, shes not that bad off driving a car like that, and I know lots of people who cant go get $2,000 from their daddy for a horse bet.

  • derren is a good man, if she lost, he would pay her back

  • if i was that woman i would have punched him when he explained the system 4 thousand pounds !!!!

  • great. thanks alot. ive just put 4000 on a horse and there is no fucking system. what a cunt.

  • I knew that he must have contacted several people with different tips. But I still don't understand how he predicted the four people picking the exact four pictures...

  • Oh damn! 7776 is what I wrote on the previous part of the video. I swear I wrote it before I saw this part. I was calculating the odds of throwing a 20, black on a roulette which would be 36x36x36 = 7776!!! OH HELL! Who hypnotized me?!

  • 3:39 he's laughing his ass off

  • the whole contacting many and only one coming out is a great plot for a creepy ass movie, i mean i felt some kind of fear after knowing the whole system, super scary somehow.

  • first of all it seems she is v v lucky. 2nd it seems similar to samuel l jackson trying to find his "opposite - unbreakable" person by "eliminating" others !!

  • brilliant !! brilliant !!

  • Fuckin hell!

  • I wish it ends right here and darren just says "well good luck! see ya!"

  • I haven't finished this yet but My guess is they've done this with multiple people. They are only showing you the perspective of who did win the odds.

  • Sure enough, :-)

  • RELIGION.. enough said...

  • I figured this out at the end of the last video thanks to an episode of the Simpsons where Lisa explains this very theory to Homer who thinks he is getting hot tips on football.

  • as soon as he was flipping the coin and got 10, i figured it would be this way but i wasnt certain at all.

  • when he aid she wasn't the only one they contacted i instantly got the "system"! Brilliant!

  • people listenn!!

nobody was scammed they were all offered their money backk

this was to show how people limit their perpspective to bias confermation

  • I dont know if I could put down that kind of money. If I lost it all I would hang myself.

  • The production of this show is cruel to the participants

  • I don't know why you would think that unless you are perhaps from another country and really do not understand Derren Brown at all. Making such a comment proves really that you are missing the point with Derren totally. Al ot of people have made the same mistake and you are not alone. What Deren does is go out of his way to prove that there is no such thing as a "Psyychic" and that everything they do can be replicated in magic and illusion. He is known to dislike the entire psychic industry.

  • its cruel because they wasted their money

  • Thius is one of the main reasons and I suspect his motivation to his career in that he hates to see people waste money on fraudulent mediums who claim they can talk to dead people and the like. Derren admits that he has no psychic ability whatsoever, yet still manages to amaze people, as long as you remember that it is a trick and nothing more. It is not how the trick was done, it how YOU REMEMBER the trick being done, that is what makes Derren different. Personally I like his "Darker Magic"

  • Go and see his live show if you get chance and buy his book(s) it is well worth £30.00 of anyone's money and a fantastic night. He makes Blaine and Angel look like nothing more than stuntmen

  • Wow, impressive. I would definetly love to see a live show of his. Do you know anyone, anytime soon and where?

  • He tours the UK most of the year

  • Oh okay. Thx!

  • @computersolutions164 I agree with everything you've said thus far except for your comparison between Brown and Blaine/ Angel. All three of them work with different motivations and goals in place and manipulate different variables. It would be comparing apples to oranges.

  • @zuruxkakyn The point of it was to show the six precipitants how believing in somthing like this is stupid.

  • i sooo knew it... :D

  • I love statistics and probabilities. I love Derren Brown

-- also, that blond chick is hot

  • Agreed :D

  • Reminds me of religion. You think it's true because you believe in it using faith.

  • Yes, you trust it implicitly even though you dont know what it really is, or how it actually works.

You can convince yourself to a large degree because random events can be subjectively applied to support and even sometimes mistakenly confirm your beliefs.

The womans mind must have been blown clean from her senses when she saw 5 horses fall and hers eventually lead. It must have looked miraculous, when it was just a 1/6 chance.

Something so simple can convince you of something so wrong.

  • Does anybody know what music was used in this?

I'm looking all over the net but can't find anything, can anyone help me out?

  • I fucking knew it!

I said to myself, he didnt mail like a million people did he? But what I really wanted to know is, how he did the "horse experts" part?

  • He combined multiple 'suggestion' tricks into one big stage act.

We all behave very similarly at a sub-conscious level, what he did was exploit some well known thoroughly tested mental manipulations which have been done for a long time.

Then he made up a number which had to be aimed for (the 1.4bn which is pulled out of thin air at the start) and makes sure to plan all the numbers in advance so that everything joins up correctly.

Its all about clever planning really.

  • i knew it!

same system the guy did with a shit load of emails, in the end scammed lots of people to come to his extremely expensive seminar for stocks

  • i certainly hope they reimburse her for it.

  • i think a lot of people are missing the point that this has very little to do with horse racing and more to do with the idea of challenging what we believe and the danger of just seeing things through our own perspective, which derren has shown in his other shows such as "messiah"

  • right. the plural of anecdote is not data.

  • 3:37 lol so that's how he runs

  • Hmmm he runs with his head down, for some strange reason. Maybe because he is known to be a very private person and only really turns it on for the cameras

  • I don't know, it looks like it might be raining.

  • he can kill you with his head but in return he has to run like a puff

  • lol

  • firstly- cheers for putting it up, def interesting viewing. i get the point, but as a magician id say its morally incorect to convince ppl to bet money on a trick. ESPECIALLY

when you dont advertise it as a trick, but as a system to win money.

  • i think its disgusting that this guys manipulating people like this for his tv show.

if these people r real then hes robbing them for his own exploits. be a real magician and get a trick that doesnt require 7000 fuck ups

  • Are you sure you have not missed the point of the trick then ?

  • You see this woman is a buffoon who got lucky. If there was a "system" which guaranteed wins why would Derren Brown bother making a few £100,000s a year, he would have become a billionaire if he could accurately predict a winner.

  • Derren Brown is not psychic. His system does not guarantee the winner of the horse race, but that there will be a winning bettor of five consecutive horse races.

  • whats four thousand pounds in canadian dallors??????

  • Today it is 8210.85 Canadian Dollars

  • HOLY SHITT!!!!!!

  • How did he "guess" the correct horse for the final race? The only way i can think of doing that is if he bought a ticket worth 4,000 for each horse then gave her the ticket of the winning horse after the race BUT, he gave her the ticket before the race, right?

  • no dude, if the nigra'd have lost he'd have made the tv show with other participant who won

  • i figured it, he used more than 10,000 random selected individual doing the same email shit, and this girl get's 6 in a row so she wins =D

  • that makes sense. but if youre right...well the few others who made it as far as this lady must have been RIPPED OFF like crazy if they put as much money as her in this final race and lost it.

and if darren was willing to do such a crazy thing just for a tv show (unless he compensates them) then i have lost all respect for him.

  • Im pretty sure he gave them what they lost.

  • They confirm the complete refund at the end of pt 6

  • lol when the girl gave derren 4k pounds, he kinda looked like he wanted to run away with it..

  • lol

  • scam artists do this, sending predictions to thousands of millionaires. Eventually, 10 or so millionaires would feel confident in the system, and entrust their money to these scam artists.

  • Sooo cool. Some people find this disappointing, I love how it illuminates the reality that people (like gamblers and believers in homeopathy) refuse to accept.

p.s. If I was Katisha I would have sucker punched Derren in the arm when he told her. :-)

  • how do you know your going ot be inthe last group though? lol you might as well be playing russian roulette..... Derren a cheap car sales man.

  • Love the analogy since Derren did play Russian Roulette. The groups are picked at random, I like it, now would I buy a car of Derren Brown, yes but I would be wondering what / if anything would happen. It would be like the car in Stephen King's "Christine", if you have seen the film, if not, watch it, it'll scare the pants off you !

  • Ah we are talking analytical..... well I think it would probably look like an awesome deal. Like a Ferrari for $10,000 but after you bought it.... it would turn out to be a ford fiesta dressed in the body of ferrari... and Derren would be all like "Haha i fooled ya! ain't that clever! there is no such thing as a ferrari...."

  • Exactly !

  • but there is such thing as ferrari.... just not on derrens program.... now think about that....

  • the last group would still be i profit though! so its still win win

  • Damn Is she gunna lose 4,000

  • Has any1 else seen the double headed coin by playin it frame by frame

  • Yes and there is no double-headed coin

just about everyone has done it by now

  • You only saw one minute edited down from nine hours of film, that would be dead easy to edit

  • Not edited down, just the last minute of film was shown. :P

  • I promise you it was edited

  • "edited" as in "lopped off the first 8 hours and 59 minutes", sure.

  • No I mean properly edited look at how it was shot. First of all it was done in split screen vertical mode.

Both cameras never pulled away at all. SO all derren would have to do is record the begining and the end and then spend the next 9hours trying to get 10 in a row and THEN edit that lot down to a minute or so for broadcast - easy really. The odds are about 1 in 1024 by the way

  • I feel bad for that last group. some one lost faith right there,

  • LOL look at derren when he runs he looks like a fat little tellie tubbie

  • what i find scary is that they actually gathered the photos and contact information of that many people ==;;

he and his team would be amazing if they worked for any intelligence agency >.>

  • Derren was once apprently, so it is rumoured, although it might be an urban myth, to have been offered a job in the Police Force. He did not take them up on their offer. His book does mention that your average copper is no better or worse at sussing someone ou than your average Psychology A' level student.

  • Has anyone else heard of this rumour about Derren intelligence agency rumour anybody at all in the entire world

  • NO !

  • Acctually I have heard that Derren was offered by the police force to work for them. I thought you said he did.oops.

  • No they didn't, they only gathered photos and names. That is NOT contact information. they would not be allowed to show anything more as it would put Channel 4 / Objective in breach of that lovely piece of legislation, put there to annoy everyone called

"The Data Protection Act". This is good for some things and bad for others and it's expensive too.

  • How do you know they only gathered photos and names?

  • They purchased a list for use in the show. From that list they only broadcast names.

Anything more would have landed them in trouble.

  • they'd have had to have obtained the participant's contact information if they *contacted* them ==;;

it's just that they only broadcasted the photos and names (as you said below)

  • shpo shpo shpow!

  • Haha when he said he gave all the clues needed i thought it was something like this but assumed it was too rediculous! i can't believe it! :D lol

  • wow poor people who lost rofl

  • HAHA I had a feeling that this is how the system works. But it's impressive how he actually got this to work.

  • omg this vid is crazy

  • Her dad looks like he is about her age! WTF?

  • Thats what i thought how can he be her father they look the same age lol

  • welll they only bet as much as they wont to and its ther fault in placing the bet if they are going to lose

  • I wish I were an English teacher, then I would mark your spelling as bloody appalling.

I would be ashamed if I were you.

  • yea..

they get there money back at the end anyway:p

  • woa i'm excited to watch part 6 now ... sympathy for the people who didn't win

  • What?? Thats so cheap!!! Do the losers of the bets that happened before get reimbursed?? If they didn't, did he just like... make them lose money?? Thats pretty horrible...

  • Whoa, did he just trick someone into betting 4000 :D

  • HAHAHAH I just had an arguement with my friends about whether they would be impressed if this guy could actually do this before I watched this segment. HAHAAHAHA I feel like an idiot, though I WOULD be impressed if he did have a legit system that could do it, and they said they wouldn't which means they are stupid lol.

  • thanks... thanks for posting this for people to read just before they watch the video.

    nub

  • fuck and just think of all the refunds.. all the film he waisted. the footage that never got on TV cause it was worthless. and most importantly all the time he waisted just to trick us (mainly) .. he's gotta be a rich bored smart bastard .. and this video doesn't suit him at all as a hypnosist and psychologist. it's just a mathematical problem

  • He is a rich smart bastard, who also happens to be good at maths and like parrots too, not too mention being able to speak German and has studied law. Bit of an academic really, he just chose to go down the performing route instead of being studious. However it did not stop him becoming bald like a lot of academics he he he !

  • i'm surprised he's known almost only in Britain.

  • He has fooled the "Septic Tanks", (Yanks) in the U.S too. go and look at the "Messiah Clip"

"Disapearing Sun" and "Paying With Paper"

Hedid not use his own name in some of them though

  • yeah it doesn't mean he's known there. I lived in the US for 4 years just came back, trust me nobody knows him there. it might be stereotypical but British people usually don't go to famous around the world. i'm not sure why, so ill keep my theories to myself. and when he did his show in US he staid low and just preformed his tricks in very small crowds so that wouldn't give much publicity.

  • Fair comment

  • Well 9 hours of tossing a coin, probably done on hard disk rather than tape, due to the quantity of tape needed - would not make interesting television on its own, unless you happen to be the ownder of a new satellite channel called "The 'Tossers' Channel".

hmmmm Wonder if Mr Murdoch would be interested.......

  • I think it clearly demonstrates a common psychological fallacy. Dumb ass people might need to see this in order to not be so easily scammed, etc. I liked it over all. Peace.

  • what's ur fuckin point??.. yeah i know that that's what he does. im just sain he goes through a lot just to promote his beliefs ideas and to teach us a lesson in a smart interesting way. most of us don't give a shit about this kind of thing, we just want to be rich and famous and get a lot of pussy. but from what i see he cares more about educating the public and do what he loves to do, and usually goes through a lot to do it. he is a very smart intelligent man and i respect him for that

  • by the way if the time it takes to throw a coin 10 times plus the time between the takes is 1.5 (which is most likely less than it really was) then the probability of getting 10 times heads is once in 25.6 hours.. so it's very unlikely he did it for only 9 hours

and for those who didn't get it yet what he did at the beginning with the four guys the pictures and the envelopes was a psychological NLP trick which has nothing to do with the horse racing system therefore it's there just to trick u

  • The throws seemed to be in a reasonably steady sequence from where I was watching.

My question is then how many throws could he have made in the claimed 9 hours, which we are told was under controlled conditions.

I think your 1.5 needs to be a bit smaller.

Would 1/2 a second between each throw be more practicable ? - From this we could work out the number of throws in the claimed 9 hours and thus the probability.

  • rememeber, once you fail, you start over. You don't have to throw it 10 times every time, in fact, only once.

  • Just because I have a perfect argument.

    HeHeHe.

  • Yes but your argument is flawed in that it was included in a serious segment of the programme. Had the programme be about "coin tossing", I would have agred with you. Howeverthe programme was about betting in this case on the horses. Therefore why would it be necessary to even include a "trick coin toss". It would serve no purpose, especially since he told you why he was doing it beforehand.

  • I guess it come down to which bits of the performance you believe and which bits you do not believe. If you think the whole thing is a trick then you have obviously missed the point of the programme entirely. The simple truth is that the main part of the programme was a trick and the explanations leading up to it were not - including the "coin toss", which you say is fake.

  • As you Believe

  • Therefore if you throw the same coin 100 times attempting to get 10 heads in a row

    The fraction becomes (1/2 ^10)*100 or 1/0.0097

If you say each throw is roughly 2 seconds long then there are 16,200 throws in 9 hours, since there are 32,400 seconds in 9 hours.

Therefore (1/2 ^10)*16,200 = 1/15.714 Somewhat quite likely over the speciifed timeframe

  • I knew this was coming!

  • Derren odviously didnt tell us the system nor did he stand for ten hours flipping a coin, the coin was probably a double sided coin and obviously Derren Does black magic and can predict the future and crazy things.

  • It wasn't a double headed coin at all. Think about what the chances would be of 10 heads in a row appearing if you flipped a coin for 9hours. Quite likely i would imagine, "TheMathGuy" on this thread worked it out. Mathematically it is highly probable. The point Derren was making, which you have missed is that over time the

    "highly unlikely" becomes "highly inevitable"

  • I know the point Derren was trying to make but do you think he actually did stand there for ten hours when he could easily duplicate the effect using a double sided coin and other psychologies. You are acquainted with Derrens ways surely you wouldnt be so gulable to think he would work so hard when theres an easier way.

  • Yes I do as it happens, we know Derren bullshits, but he did this in order to prove a point and went to the lengths of telling the viewer beforehand. "No double-headed coin", "Camera will not cut away" etc etc. There would be no point in lying about that part at all. In other words why lie about the hypotheseis you are trying to prove. That'd be pointless !

  • If I were being paid what Objective Productions, I would stand there for 10 hours. The guy is a frenetic worker, look at his tour at the moment. If he can do that number of shows, with extra dates added, I am certain he could stand there for 10 hours flipping a coin. To quote him from his own book "My workload keeps me irritable for 52 weeks of the year !"

  • LOL. He says the camera doesnt cut away but you look at the first time he flicks the coin and it goes into slow motion, and you see both heads and tails then it cuts to another shot of the coin landing. But I know you work hard and I love your passion for defending Derren.

  • that was just done for effect, to make it look good. it would be a very boring and very bad camera work if he just stood there flicking the coin over and over. Of ourse they have to do an edit, otherwise no one would watch it. Does not mean to say that he did not actually flip a coin for 9 hours though

  • Well that makes complete sense so there no point in saying anything more about that.

  • Another way of putting it

If I were a production manager, hired to film

Derren Brown and I had my sound and camera team there, I would certainly want to make the "coin toss" look good for the viewer, without ANY "Coin Trickery" at all. I guess camera teams are used to standing about all day waiting for the action to actually happen of its own accord. Simple just bring a packed lunch and wait !!

  • Ok if you listen to Derren telling us its a regular coin, his tone of voice sounds like hes trying to put across that ofcourse it's a regular coin. But to me it doesn't come across congruent, its too exagerated. Reminds me of something he said about poker, When they are strong they apear weak when weak they appear strong.

  • Perhaps you are looking to deeply into something innocent. Remember Derren is an entertainer and it is important to speak clearly for television and innunciate properly. I can see how exagerration would work, but in that particular segment I do not think it is done too fool the viewer.

  • There is the camera edit. and there is Derren and his exagerated tone of voice. I believe there is enough evidence here to prove that Derren had the option to skip the ten hours of work, and simply use a clock going around really fast and a few edits. Now it comes down to your belief. you may choose to beleiv him because he makes you feel good so you should trust him.but is that proof.

  • Knowing that Derren had the option of skipping the work, and knowing that Derren bullshits us alot, I would say it is highly probable but not necessaraly but highly probable that Derren took the easy road and used a double sided coin.

  • i think it is doubtful given what he was trying to prove. His tone of voice was said as part of a commentary accompanying a film, made at a different time. It's called "Post Production" and was probably done in a studio. Therefore if he were indoors, he would sound diffeent. The option was there and yes Derren bullshits, but I think you aretaking things to extremes.

  • I think you are probably reading a little too closely into what and how he was saying. His voice can be like that. I would believe it more with the 500 cards and 4 people as that was NLP. There were hidden messages in what he was saying. Tell you what when I see him in April I'll ask him.

  • Havnt you already seen him, Ithought I read you went to his show somewhere.

  • No I said that I am going to see him in April. I had had the tickets booked for months

  • The probability of 1 coin coming up heads or tales on 1 throw is 1/2

Therefore The probability of 1 coin coming up heads or tales on 10 cosecutive throws is

    1/2 ^ 10 = 0.0009765625 or 1/976

This fraction increases the more times you throw the coin. We do not know how many throws Derren made but we do know he was there for 9 hours.

  • dumb ass the decimal is correct but it's 1/1024 count again.

  • Not my mistake. It was found on a coin tossing / trick website and yes they had made a mistake. The correct probability formula is below - dumb ass !

Formula to calculate the chance of a single result is:

    P = 0.5^n X n!/(n-x)!x!

    P = probability in percent

    n = number of tosses

x = number of heads or tails required

    ! = a factorial i.e (10 X 9 X 8 X 7....1. etc

  • yeah dude i finished high school and i know the formula. I'm still right though. but it doesn't really matter it's just a technicality, all i was trying to say is if your posting videos you should check yourself twice before posting a comment about it. and don't always copy things from other website u should have a mind of your own.

  • Possibly true - sometimes a little difficult when you are relying on info after you have pressed the "Post Comment" button. I did correct it in another post.

  • Okey, I am I the only one who feels this is pure cruelty? :'(

  • Yes you probably are I think, Why do you think it is cruel. If a psychologist illusionist walked up to me and offered me the chance to be in his show AND win £13,000 into the bargain. I would go for it, especially is they had Derren's experience in the field - i.e they were trustworthy !!

  • She was sure she would win all the way.. But didn't you see all the others who didn't win.? :( I saw it in his face that also he didn't look comfertable betting with her money on the last race.

It's a good ending though... And what was written in the ending was conforting..

  • Well of course there were losers. The film obviously affected your sense of sympathy. You are probably more of a "big softie" than you realise

  • You are probably right. Ofcourse it doesn't need to be a downside. ^^

  • hey derren kind of looks, professor Lupin from harry potter

  • True ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha lol

  • Yes if you are standing a long way away and have a squint, ignoring the lack of a goatee on Prof. Lupin and longer hair of a different colour, then I guess there could be a slight resemblence !

  • fuck i had a paper and a pencil ready to make a billion bucks but fake i dont have 7000 peeps fucking hell!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • fucking hell. thats whats going through my head. fucking hell. lmao
