@MrDenocan I sure know where New Hampshire is and what "viral" means but I wanted to learn why he wrote something like this. This video was an advertisement for the Capital of Culture campaign and was shown on several TVs around the globe...
Istanbul is one of the oldest cities in the world 1453 - 1922 between the Ottoman Empires, the Ottoman caliphate in 1517, the State passed, Islam abolished until 1924, also became the center of Istanbul, the Ottoman authorities in some quarters for the city was in favor of the other names for both the city and the Ottoman government to identify and diplomatic correspondence, especially served to encourage the honorific names and synonyms used استانبول, plenty of A-stan-or Istanbul
as a Turkish student studying abroad who borned and raised in Istanbul, I can say, that every day of my life away from Istanbul; i just miss it even more and hoping for the day of return. That unique smell of Bosphorus, taste of the Tea, that arcitecture, Waterpipe and the wonderfull taste of any kind of food you can find on Taksim square in the darkest hours of the night after a long crazy night. My beatiful Home Istanbul.

As a person who is 4th generation born and still living in Istanbul, i can say that this video shows only half of the beauties of my city. You can always find in Istanbul more than you'r looking for; history, art, exotism, fun, hospitality, experience, shopping, delicious meals, sophisticated places... All people are welcomed here. Muslims, Christians, Jews, whites or blacks no matter... 13.26 million people live here. This is Istanbul.... Greetings from Istanbul
I was in Turrkey in 1980 to 1981 and I have not seen this country untill this video. it looks so beautiful. I was in the U.S. army in Cakmakli I don't remember where that was, but I do remember Istanbul and I tell my wife that we will return there one day.
My beautiful, beloved Istanbul. When my parents left there in 1957, the population had just surpassed 1.2 million! What is almost always lost in any discussion of Istanbul these days is the old traditional manners and etiquette for which our city was once renowned as well as our progressive liberal views and mindset. We were freed, not by Ataturk, but by the Tanzimat and Sultans Mahmut II, Abdulmecid and Abdulaziz.

I personally do not think that it is a good video. Why during the video they keep showing the same mosque again and again? Apart from Hagia Sophia Mosque (Ayasofya) and Sultanahmed Mosque, there are many different areas in Istanbul worth recording as well. For example, why Maiden's Tower (Kız Kulesi) is not in the video anyways? How about the beauty of Istiklal avenue and its tram. The list goes on like this. Its like the name of the video is 'European Capital of Mosques' or something.
@erhannnnn I was thinking the exactly same thing. Istanbul has so many cultures living in it, so many beautiful buildings and a beautiful history.. Even when this video gives me goosebumps, it isn't a good video to represent the beauty of Istanbul.

@oggiwoggi Hello, it's funny, you live in Australia and you would live in Istanbul, I'm from Istanbul and I've always dreamed about to live in Australia :).
@CanKuman8 Bro, I live in Australia and I am from Istanbul but I can't wait for the time I'll return to my home country, Turkey. Australia is a great coutry too. No traffic, no noise, life is easier but I really miss the energy of Istanbul. We used to go to Kadikoy in the middle of the night and have some cold sandwitches or Uskudar for some great tea and cekirdek while staring at maiden's tower or go to Istiklal for some fun. here all the shops close at 5.30pm. Enjoy Istanbul while you can!
Westerners are such hypocrites - they nominated Istanbul as the European Capital of Culture in 2010 but are constantly rejecting Turkey's membership in the EU. In fact, Asia Minor was a cradle of European civilisation, the Germanic medieval architecture is a humble copy of the Byzantine art. Finally, Europe is not a monolithic and monocultural place but a mix of different ethnicities and cultural influences. I would definitely love to see Turkey as part of EU. Would love to retire in Turkey:)
@ronaldpk2000 And what the hell does being capital of culture has to do with being a member in EU? Stating that the western are hypocrates because of that is just ignorant.
Sorry, kardashim, but both Turkey and Europe must get over a few problems before they can trust one another very well. Both Germany and France have problems with integrating different cultures into their societies, and besides that, Turkey still holds onto northern Cyprus. I for one as a Greek support your membership because it will heal old wounds, but I will not lie to myself that things look very well for Turkey's entrance.
@MelisYiik well sure it is..Instanbul was the capital of the Byzantine (Greek) Empire and well..most of the ancient buildings you see are in fact Greek. e.g. the monument in the begging is tha Agia Sofia Church..the Ottomas after they conquered the city gave it their touch as well, that's why it's such a multicultural & beautiful city.
@Marinemauro the byzantine empire was roman. The Greeks were conquered by the Romans and the name byzantine was coined by a german historian in the 19th century. The byzantine empire was really just the eastern roman empire.
@Marinemauro I am sorry but that's wrong. There are many Byzantine buildings as well as past civilizations buildings in Istanbul. That's what makes Istanbul so beautiful and multi cultural. However, the buildings you will see are overwhelmingly Ottoman buildings. Ottoman culture was very sophisticated, that is the reason you are confused I guess. For example, famous Yalis, there are 700 of them but only 3 of them is greek but their look is similar to European architecture.
@norelojon and buddy what the 2nd thing makes it beaurtifull is FATİHG SULTAN MEHMET,MOSQUES,AND FATİH'S MERCY THAT COMBİNED MOSQUE AND THE CHURCH TOGETHER THATS ALL İ NEED TO SAY :)

MelisYiik 1 year ago
@MelisYiik well sure it is..Instanbul was the capital of the Byzantine (Greek) Empire and well..most of the ancient buildings you see are in fact Greek. e.g. the monument in the begging is tha Agia Sofia Church..the Ottomas after they conquered the city gave it their touch as well, that's why it's such a multicultural & beautiful city.

@Marinemauro the byzantine empire was roman
MGreyWolfM 1 year ago
@Marinemauro the byzantine empire was roman. The Greeks were conquered by the Romans and the name byzantine was coined by a german historian in the 19th century. The byzantine empire was really just the eastern roman empire.
MGreyWolfM 1 year ago
@Marinemauro I am sorry but that's wrong. There are many Byzantine buildings as well as past civilizations buildings in Istanbul. That's what makes Istanbul so beautiful and multi cultural. However, the buildings you will see are overwhelmingly Ottoman buildings. Ottoman culture was very sophisticated, that is the reason you are confused I guess. For example, famous Yalis, there are 700 of them but only 3 of them is greek but their look is similar to European architecture.
