Billy Idol...AKA William Broad, was a posh public school educated pretty boy from stockbroker belt Surrey who fell in with the Bromley Contingent (Google it!) and became a punk. He used to leave his spacious family mansion in a leafy suburb and drive up to gigs in the heart of London in his Triumph Stag sports car. A first class ponce.
nope thank you so much for your reply still think it aweful but billy idol rock and rolls ... really enjoy his interview always think thats where its at .ty for share
@chantal1235 I know it's a matter of taste and opinion when it comes to music people like...But perhaps you haven't heard generation x's first full length album before? It's far from "sucking" and is one of the best punk albums made in my book...Check it out if you're interested.
@chantal1235 actually generation x IS billy idols band.... as in they just changed their name. If you listen to them (not live on youtube) you'd like them. btw rebel yell is billy idol's least famous song that they ever did. And the song Dancing with Myself is originally done by Generation X. HA informationally raped.
@slayerrules114 That's actually incorrect Billy did in fact leave Generation X and upon moving to New York recruited a new guitarist Steve Stevens and a drummer, bassist and keyboardist.
its amazing. gen x got me into punk but they're not punk at all. its not really fair to call them punk. its good music. ramones aren't really punk either. its not a bad thing. they (ramones) never claimed to be. they just were. they did what they wanted and other people labeled them. gen x got labeled because of who they knew. they weren't punk, just rock and roll. is that bad?
I think the host is right when he says they changed their sound - but who cares. Valley of the dolls is a classic album - is it punk rock? is it heavy rock? who gives a shit - it's one of the best (if not THE best) albums of 1979.
What I noticed in a lot of his interviews, is that the people who interview him seem to think he will have stupid answers or dumb answers. And I think it shocks them about how smart he is. I think he always was quite good in interviews
rock'n'roll N roll billy, I always preferred gen X which billy idol in same solo if I like also that career solo, but more since Cyberpunk from nothing will not be any more as before
My God, I remember this so well!!! I have not seen this since 78 or 79 but I remember the interview so well. I was in my early teens and what stuck in my mind then was the question as to who he thought King Rocker is about, Elvis or The Beatles. And he replies: 'I think it's me really'. And now, I have relived this moment again. Thanks a million bowleg!
My older punk mates from Bromley used to hang out with the old `Bromley contingent` Billy Idol (William Broad) , Siouxsie Sioux, etc when they were up and coming in the mid-70`s. Wish I`d ben ten years older! But I do remember the vibrancy and freshness of punk in London in the late 70`s. Great feelings of anti-establishment that today`s youth have long forgotten about. Give `em a Playstation and their happy! Agree with Billy`s comments on yobs not into punk turning up at gigs for a tear up.
one of my all time favourite lip curlers :)

Saw Billy get punched in the face by a 'Grebo' in '79.
credit to the guy, in the middle of singing 'wild youth' he got up and carried on performing.
Venue was Derby Kings Hall.
