  • Thank You so much dude i was freaking out about this project good video.

  • Why did the video end early

  • so how do u do the twist for the candy can u plz tell me cuz i need for a project due tommorow :O

  • @SouthSide4036

    1. make a pillar for each DNA strand to attach to (maybe use 2 long pretzel sticks if you want to keep it edible?)

    2. twist the twizzlers however you want the DNA twist oriented

    3. attach them to the ends of the pillars with strings? (probably tight, so the DNA doesn't come undone)

I've never tried it, so that would be my first attempt items.

  • @brandnewboi caN U like make a video showing all of this cuz am more of an visual learner plz it will actually help me a lot ?

  • @brandnewboi can u show me by posting abother video on how to make it be twitable b/c for my project it has to twist for at least 2 times

  • @SouthSide4036

I don't have time for that. I would do it like I explained or just use pipe cleaners instead of strings when creating the DNA strands. Those usually stay bent when you twist them.

  • oh no michigan fan... :/

  • how do you do the twist do u just twist it

  • Sorry if I never got back to anybody in the past couple of months! I didn't have access to my videos for some reason! If you have any questions, you can email me at r_asper@hotmail.com. Please title the email "candy dna model" or something along those lines. THANK YOU AND ENJOY :)

  • @brandnewboi Thankyou so much you saved my entire life science grade. Please do not laugh at my name!

  • @theEMINEMgir1 thank you thank you :) Michigan <3

  • right now i am in 7th grade and this is helping me a lot on my project but what was weird i had went to whal-mart and bought some colorful twizzlers that was weird but i was glad i did

  • @XxAmandaLuvesYaxX lucky investment :)

  • Thank you so much!

  • insted of gummybears could gummy worms works

  • Love this♥

  • thank you. It's really help me build my own dna model..

  • for some reason i can't see the complete vidio. HLEP PLEASE

  • MICHIGAN IS AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @babygirl1000ify You are right..it is! :)

  • Brand New <3.

  • @jackrox222 my fav :)

  • :D You just got me an A!

  • Dude what are the materials mine is due on saturday plz answer quick cuz i donnot know what to do?

  • guys, guys be careful with the toothpicks.. they are pointy ok

  • HEY THANX I JUZ HELPED MY SIS MAKE HER SCIENCE PROJECT WITH YOUR HELP :)

  • thanxxxx

  • thanks fo helping me with my project :-)

  • the music iz really scary lol

  • this is great but why did my teacher give me one before christmas break

  • Using just toothpicks to attach the twizzlers to the candys works much better than string. Also, it'll be much easier to twist your finished DNA.

Also, another good candy to work with is jubejubes, because you can find them almost anywhere and they're super cheap.

  • hey guys, don't stab yourself

  • nice i think im going to use this for my project

  • Can use pipe cleaners for this instead of string?

  • Please read the info before leaving comments referring to how I messed up in my explanation. I explain my mess ups in there. Sorry if this sounds rude; I don't mean it to be.

  • you dont attach the bases to the phosphate, you attach it to the sugars!!!! DEOXYRIBOSE!!!

  • 975 21three

  • Nice video dude and thanks saved me alot of time!!

  • can u tell me the order the gummy bears go in cuz i dont know from what u give

  • i live in the UAE and they dont sell licorice here, does any1 know a sub for it? AND QUICK my model is due tmrw :/

  • thanks for the video this is going to help me with my DNA project i have to make for my 8th grade life science class at my school

  • you are the best

  • this is really helpful, thanks you!

  • thanks!

  • thanx man helped a lot

  • TYVM.. i tried to make a DNA model out of cardboard and it did not turn out well.. lol

  • thanks! the music made me sleepy tho...

  • Awesome advice, and awesome background music. Thanks

  • Now...How am I going to make it stand :( lol....that the hard part...

  • @Silasizhere, dude!! im making mine hang in mid air! :D

  • Sounds SWEEEEEET!

  • Yeah mine has to be standing too.

I think I'm going to substitute the string for wire and use it to stab into like... styrofoam or something

  • I would have totally bailed on my project if it weren't for this video~ xD Mine's is due tommorow. ;o

    Thanks a lot! :)

  • bugger i have just made one like this took me a bloody hour to even come up with the idea

  • ..but it's done! and it's gonna be GREAT!

  • attach to the sugar not phosphate

    anyway thx a lot:)

  • this video is great. it really helped me to understand the whole process of dna. you are like my night in shining armor you totally saved my life... project due tomorrow :)

  • thanks man you saved my life- project is due tommorow

  • SAME HAHA

  • My DNA project is due in about a week, so thank you sooo much! I now get what to do and use for my project! :D

Thanks!! Awesome video, Awesome project....but can you twist it? please reply!

  • awesome like others i had to make a dna model. thnx a bunch!

  • how do twist it?

  • Great video dude - but the nitrogen bases attach to the sugar (deoxyribose) and NOT the phosphate groups.

  • dont they connect to the sugar tho not the protein?

  • I put it in the info. Thanks!

  • thx lol now I know how to do my project. :)

  • oh thx so much im doin my project at the last time and i was so confused but u saved my life !!!!!!YOU ROCK :)

  • thanks dude. my projects due friday!!. does it twist easily

  • what did u use at 0:40

  • twizzlers

  • UR A LIFESAVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • thank you so so so so much. i have a project due on tuesday for this, and even though i am not using food, you explained the structure REALLY well and made it easier for me to inderstand how to build my own model. you are a LIFESAVER!!!

  • thanks man thats so helpful, assignment due tomorrow. im a little confused i probably missed something, how does the string go into the liquarish pieces? like, cause theres no holes in the liqarish...

  • thanks. i am totally doing that now...i just need all that stuff

  • Let's pretend helicase was used.

  • that's nice, but my biology teacher said that we can't use food...

  • btw i have similar project due on monday im fakked=(

  • where does the toothpick go into the phosphate or sugar?

  • DNA is all bullshit how the fuck is someone ment to know what this crazy shit looks like? fucking scientists

  • lrn2science

  • The music drived me NUTS!! JESUS CHRIST I PEED MYSELF AT THE END

  • Haha. it was all my intentions for that to happen.

  • AWW! CRAP Ii need 2 do that i'm a freshamn aswell but our teacher dosen't allow candy! lol

  • he added the first gummie to the "PHOSPHATE" umm that was done wrong ur supposed to attachd it to the sugar (5:22 sec)

  • you said we needed colored marshmellows, but i didnt see u use em. explain?

message me when you can please

  • But how do you make it hold the twist?

  • I used a shoe box.

  • What if i do this project will this be call plagiarism

Cause i got a 3D DNA MODEL TO DO FOR SCIENCE

  • Nope. You're fine. I don't know how you're going to make it twist?

  • thank you We were having troubles with creating our dna model.

also u gave us a quick refresher.

  • this video really helped me I have to make a DNA model so I made mine the same as the one in the video

  • im a freshmen in highschool im deffintely stealin this twizzlers idea

  • wow your doing this in college ?

we are doing this in 7th grade.

  • haha. no, no. I'm doing this for a student teaching project. I'm in my final year of college. I major in Biology and Chemistry with Secondary Teaching Certification, so, I'll be teaching middle school and high school Biology and Chemistry.

  • I wish my teachers liked Brand New. :(

Anyway, thanks for the project idea. Saved me a ton of time. :)

  • ha. yeah, yeah...

I will be teaching next year =) Wish me luck!

  • This is very helpful and gives me a great idea for my own model. Mine has stand up so I will use a coat hanger instead. Thanks!

  • yeah i did this today!

    thanks sooo much

but i think instead of using yarn use pipe cleaners

thats what i did it is so much better because you can bend it and give it its shape

  • yeah, nice idea.

  • Thank you so much:D

    This is my project=P

  • i hate the music

  • yeah, it's from my favorite band, brand new. Sorry, that specific song isn't appealing to most.

  • im in 7th grade and i have to do the same project... we have to show that the phosphate groups are anti paralell and we have to show the dna in a double helix

  • omg i love you.

  • could i ise this for a class project ???

  • i made my dna project using pipe cleaners and beads you should try that

  • did the beads go on the pipe cleaners

  • yeah

  • they also had different colors to represent different bases

  • yea thanks for the video dude. i just had one question. When u have to make it into that corkscrew shape, how do u make it stay in that shape? and for my project we need to keep it upright and it can't be on its side. any suggestions?

  • I'm not sure how to keep it in that shape. Possible make some sort of stand with small pieces of stretched string? It really wasn't intended for that much sophistication.

  • thanks sooo much

  • the project idea is great thank you but i just have one question when i make this candy dna model does it also apply to a DNA structure undergoing transcription?

  • Hmm.. maybe after creating the double helix, maybe have the students trade a DNA strand with each other and have them transcribe the other's DNA strand? I dunno, think creative, I think you could pull it off!

  • GENIUS

  • thanks, even though it wasn't my idea.

  • you're supposed to attach the nitrogenous bases to the 5-CARBON SUGARS

  • yeah, I didn't want to make things to complicated. That could be explained to students.

  • lol i asked how to make a dna model out of candy. i didnt ask to get a 7 min long explanation

  • Thanks alot bro big help with my extra credit project!

  • yep! enjoy.

  • thanks real talk u helped me get a a for creativity on my project thanks if i could pay u ii would

  • haha, thanks, I had to do this project for one of my college teaching classes. It got me an "A" as well. Can't wait to graduate April '09!

  • DUDE U HELPED ME SO MUCH THANK U

  • You kick ass dude!
