People who criticize Pol Pot do not look at the bigger picture and understand that he forced people to the farms because there was a famine from the conservative government that came before him.
@MaoistLeninistMarx Did he also force them to shoot, strangle, club themselves?? Over 2 million Cambodians died; how could ANYONE deny or try to rationalize the brutality of that man and the Khmer Rouge. It is sickening.
@huntseateq yes many many many people died, and it was a tragedy,BUT the problem was caused by the USA and the conservative government (pre-Pol Pot) in Cambodia. Pol Pot tried to solve the problem of the famine by sending people back to the farms.
@MaoistLeninistMarx Do you really believe that? It is unfathomable to me that will all of the records and firsthand accounts that are now available of the genocide, that you could actually believe what you are saying. I'm not denying that the US played a dark role (most probably out of ignorance since no one outside of Cambodia seemed to really know what was happening; Pol Pot was known to be very eloquent & seemingly civilized) but they did not CAUSE the problem.
@huntseateq USA bombing of the Ho Chi Minh trail forced many Cambodians to abandon their farms and move to the cities. this cause a lack of food, leading to the famine. The conservative pro-usa government there was getting food aid, but they were mismanaging that aid, so many people died. Pol Pot came to power after the revolution, he forced people to the farms to try and end the famine, he is criticized for this manly.
@MaoistLeninistMarx He is not criticized for that mainly. He is criticized for causing the deaths of over 2 million of his countrymen. They did not all die of starvation...many (who really knows the total count) were executed. Are you trying to say that Pol Pot did not order the Khmer Rouge to execute Khmers?
@huntseateq What I mean is that he is criticized for killing people who did not want to go back to the farms. He had to be harsh or the famine would continue, if he did not threaten them with death with would they go back to the farms?
@MaoistLeninistMarx Seriously? Over 2 million people dead; I would think that is a little beyond harsh. I'm not sure where you are getting your information from. Pol Pot cared only about his precious ideals & didn't care how many people had to go to their graves to achieve his utopia.
That was Vietnamese planned since 100 years ahead to take the Cambodia.Pol Pot is a criminal and most wanted from Lon Nol Regime (Democratic Of Kampuchea).Pol Pot or Saloth Sar,he went to Vietnam then go to china to joint the Communist party fight with Lon Nol regime,in 1975 pol pot won the war....it is alot more about killing field kampuchea!!
yeah and back then except for the communist states in Eastern Europe plus Soviet, everyone supports Khmer Rouge and strongly voiced their disagreement agains Vietnam's invasion of Cambodia. And who was the most active in supporting KR? "big brother" China that was.... it was teachnically Vietnam vs The world in Cambodia matte. And now Cambodians are displaying their anti-vietnamese sentiment on Youtube and else where...Harsh reality aye?
@Tomahawk2408 True. Vietnam has more freedom than USA. Vietnam had enough from the continuing murder of Vietnamese citizens in the neighboring villages, towns (Ha Tien for example where 4000 Vietnamese were killed by polpot gangs) and acted on its own, liberating Cambodia from terror. Vietnam has more humanitarian feelings than the so-called "freedom-loving USA!" Shame on u US gov't!
@tiborvivi: Ahhh, a liberal nazi. How about that? Can't say I've seen many who are happy about white soldiers being mutilated by soldiers of an "inferior race". I'll wire Hitler and tell him they're starting to lighten up.
@AngkarrakgnA Consider it the "Nits turn into lice" mentality that the powers that be instilled into the people (usually soldiers) who are doing the killing.
According to this video 1.7 million were killed by the Pol Pot genocide in Cambodia. Independent legit death counts put the Bush genocide in Iraq at 1.35 million. Bush Jr. considered Pol Pot indispensible politically, neither were brought to justice. THIS video is the first time i noticed the U.S. weapons.
'Even if one places some credence in the reported interview nowhere in it does Khieu Samphan suggest that the million postwar deaths were a result of official policies (as opposed to the lag effects of a war that left large numbers ill, injured, and on the verge of starvation). The "slaughter" by the Khmer Rouge is a Moss-New York Times creation.'
N. Chomsky &Herman, "Distortions at Fourth Hand", 1977
@wazeer23 cool? are you fucking kidding me? YOU SAY COOL? WTF is wrong with you. That person would have never even been here to say that and you say cool? I think this is cool to bitch you out for saying that you ignorant peice of shit. Kingdom We are all glad that your family made it out of that horrible place. May god bless you and your family and all of your people. Take care.
What about the fact that the USA was arming and supporting Pol Pot during his genocidal reign and after? The Khmer Rouge even had a seat in the U.N. Remember it was the Vietnam People's Army who put a stop to this butcher and exposed his crimes.
. . . continue from my previous post, what is more surprising is that someone - such as yourself - who has taken the time to put together a short film about the atrocities in Cambodia would have nothing more to reply to a legitimate criticism with than to tell him to shut up and call him a 'commy' [sic].
@hectorbolshevik it is absolutely correct that America worked with China to bring the plot about. Nixon and Kissinger made a deal with China to establish China as a counterweight power to the Soviet Union. Cambodia was to be made into a rice growing region to China whereby China would trade weapons to Cambodia for rice and the Cambodians would engage in a never ending war against Vietnam. The other countries in SE Asia were put under the Maoist umbrella.
@hectorbolshevik and it was the USA that helped to arm sadaam husein, and bin laden. noone wants to see the dirt we have under our own fingernails. its always someone else who soes bad. if you dare to point out our own bad actions you are "unAmerican" so much for free speech. so much for integrity. so much for dignity.
"What about the fact that the USA was arming and supporting Pol Pot during his genocidal reign and after? "
Not a fact, where's you get it? Its well known that the KR were supplied by China during the war. After the KR seized power they used their people as slaves to raise rice to sell to the Chinese for guns. This is well known. The US involvement in Cambodia is limited to the bombing of the Ho Chi Minh Trail 72' to '73.
@tiborvivi: It amuses me when encounter manure trucks like you. That's what you'd have to be, to be that full of shit. Loeb, Kohn, and Rothchilds funded the Kerensky government, and the USA is the most capitalistic country on the planet. I see you like Rammstein, even after they let a black man manage them. I thought you were supposed to hate "race traitors". You want to follow Hitler? Do the white race a favor and blow your brains out.

Perhaps capitalism put him in power but it did not orchestrate the killing fields. That atrocity needed a human hand.
