i really appreciate the emphasis on filing it up all the way. i just saw a 7-stove review and the 2 alcohol stoves failed cuz they went out. the guys didnt even put windshields on them on an outdoor test.
My experience had been when this stove was not filled all the way, the heat output was not as high. When the stove was filled completely, if I did not use all of the fuel, I would extinguish the flame, wait for the stove to completely cool and then pour the remaining fuel back into the bottle.
I've cooked marshmallows over the fire while using denatured alcohol without noticing any ill effects. You have to be careful since it can be hard to see the flame. I don't know how other fuel sources would work though. Some other fuels leave residues that may be harmful.
I got one of these today and I like it a lot. However I can only get it to burn for a few minutes.....not long enough to boil water.

40 degrees room temp, AND 40 degrees water temp. 2 cups rolling boil IN 5 minutes? C'mon..... What altitude are you at?

This was in my garage, a little cool, but obviously no wind. Altitude was about 2650 ft.

I dont really understand why the stove has to be filled toi the top. Depending on what I'm doing I dont always fill my stove all the way up.

Alcohol is not unstabble and combustable like gasoline products. WILL NOT EXPLODE. just burn and melt your nice little container.

Thanks for the input about combustibility.

Use HEET. It burns super clean and does not make your stove black. You can buy it in WallMart

Is it safe to cook food directly on the fire? ex. hotdogs & smores?
