I love this song, the story behind how it was wrote is great. Look it up if your interested really gives you respect to the many people who died in the wars.
Respects for any man that fell for his country. German, British, Russian, French, Dutch and American. Even if Hitler's action were horrid, not all of the German forces were the same. Some were just people, fighting to survive. Men, women, and children alike died fighting on all sides. It just goes to prove that there is no winning in war.

@oldgregg244 and if russia hadnt opend the german eastern front the US would never have made france, the war was not won by the US, it was won by the combined effort of the allied forces, and if any part of the allies deserves the most credit its the brits, who not only fought in both theaters of war but held there ground and didnt fall to the axis

My Great, Great Uncle Salvatore Anthony Carpentiere was part of the 325th GIR in Normandy during WWII. He arrived in Normandy on June 7, 1944 (D-Day +1) by Glider. He fought at the La Fiere Bridge and Causeway on June 9, 1944 (D-Day +3)
the crazy thing is, one of my grandfathers was on one of those boats, the other was in one of those bunkers. the british one made it to düsseldorf, the german one was captured in berlin. after the war they became best friends. but we, who never met on the batlefield as enemys, tend to hate one another. how sad and low have we become, i take those old men as my guide. shit happens and its all FUBAR

War is the last thing most veterans want to hear about. For us who have never experienced it, we can never imagine the fear, pain, and hardship of war, especially with wars like WWII. The few veterans that I know who talk about their war experience are those who served in the air force or navy. I only knew one who served in the front lines and talked about it, and even then he would usually be crying while telling about it. All one of my friend's grandparents would say was "It was hell."
just out of curiousity. if your grandfather and his 8 brothers fought in wwi wwii korea and vietnam, they 'd all have to be born in 1890ish. so by the time korea came, they'd be around 70. I don't think that's what actually happened.
Many people think that the battle of Utah and Omaha beach were some of the worst casualties faced in world war 2 and that the men here deserve the most respect from all of the battles of world war two. Dont get me wrong they deserve alot of respect but how about the marines in the battle of tarawa who had to trek 500 yards through muck and mire in the face of enemy machine guns and mortars. You never hear about them. Its a sad fact that Americans forget their history so easily. Love all not some
agreed. also many people forget about other services, like the submarine force. they actually had the highest casualty rate of any military force (roughly 22% of submariners died)

that may be true but the russian tactic was to use numbers, brute force, human wave, they didnt care what the human cost was. they just coldly wanted to kill any and all germans.
crap, now i have to go look up the statistic...i can't find it yet, can you wait a day or 2 while i look it up. but i do know that the NKVD and KGB killed a good 22M russians in the stalin era, compared to the 9M killed in the holocaust. and the 7M russia lost to the germans in the war.
stalingrad was far worse. but they was over a period of time. This was one day. If we replayed this day over and over until it was the amount of days stalingrad lasted, then D-Day would have had a landslide on the largest casualties
I do see what he means though because the lyrics do say germans gun through out the lyrics a couple times. So it fits more so to WW1 and WW2 movies. However it does fit in We Were Soldiers and that is obviously a vietnam movie. Doesn't really matter i guess.
I'd also just like to set it straight: No country would ever use Nuclear Weapons, and they are useless, which is why we shouldn't have them. Future wars will never be as bad as this. We now have camouflage, better protective equipment like body armour, better tactics. We no longer believe that if you throw enough troops at a beach you will take it. Those German defences wouldn't exist by the time troops got ashore. We wouldn't eb flooding out of Landing Craft to Machine Gun fire.
Next war will end the rule of man, we will kill each other, no asteroids, no virus, just humans will be our virus, cry together, die together, die from the person standing next to you. Its probaly going to be a nuke war which will blow the world to shit and everyone on it, theres nukes now that can crack the world in half, so doesnt that scare the shit out of you?
Sadly, even though, some people do not class it as a world war, it is happening again. In many countries, and in my own, over 200 killed now in our own war, right or wrong, the lives are still lost. xx
it is terrible if builders lives are lost, and it was avoidable ??? I'm sorry but your point seems lost on me. Soldiers sign a contract to serve Queen and Country...wether or not they believe the battle just....where is the comparison ??? And this was a comment I posted regarding this song and the fruitality of war ???
I Don't. I'm from the UK. We helped win the war by holding our ground and winning the Battle Of Britain. Russia Helped greatly for halting the German War Machine and pushing it back. the USA, Canada, UK, and France helped by opening up a third front (don't forget Africa) and dividing Hitler's forces. Also we couldn't have done it without the Colloquial forces.
The British holding in the Battle of Britain turned the tide of the war imo, that and the Russians persistence at not giving Stalingrad up. Though, looking from the other side, most likely the Axis powers would have won the war, Hitlers plan was to crush Russia in between the armies of his own and Japan's, but Japan had other plans and attacked the U.S. if it had not have been for that, the outcome would have changed dramatically.
98RamMagnum. Thanks for you comment. Also as I recall, Kuangtung Imperial Japanese in Manchuria lost aginst the Russians in one of the most impt, least known battles in ww2. Battle of Golgin Ghol. If the IJA had won, whole SE section of Far East Russia would of been wide open. IJA would of easily moved up north and Germans from west would of annihilated the Red Armies completely. The out come would of been disastrous for Europe; a whole different outlook.
THROUGH THE GATES OF HELL, AS WE MAKE OUR WAY TO HEAVEN THROUGH THE NAZI LINES!!!! PRIMO VICTORIA!! kick ass song, with a kick ass band, with a kick ass movie
on the day of the normady landing many historian and archeologies found out that on omaha beach one german machinegun position kill approx. 4000-5000 soldiers befor being over run and surrendering that scary FACTS
lead, powder, fire. waiting for my time one day will come. when that day comes i will take it with honor and apologies to those i leave behind that i cant take with me where i go to Valhalla.
Since the dawn of human kind, when our ancestors first discovered the killing path with rock and bone, blood has been spilled in the name of everything, from God, to justice, to simple psychotic rage.
Its from Fallout. But I think its soo true, there will always be war. No matter how hard we try. This is brobably all for me. Bye... Just love this song.
No it's Scottish, he is not singing in English, Stupid. I'm not shure but I'll red this all over internet , and I'll rater stick to internet then you. Btw D-Day was the largest invation beqaus(dont know how it spells) it was an amphibous and airborne invation and other stuff like the preparations. Like spesial Sherman thanks that could swim(12 of 14 sank at Omaha). Okinawa was the largest amphibous assault. And Market Garden"Hells Highway" was the largest airborne operation.
great vid, but yer discription is stupid, its an accent , the words you used are way off what has saying, "monie mair huv gaun"? you can tell its really "many men have gone"
A really good song. I believe that he who created it lost his brother in the Great War, please correct me if I'm wrong.
Saving Private Ryan is one of the most realistic and true war movies ever created, even though some things were changed to match the script.
I wonder how many americans, british and canadians that drowned and still waits to be found outisde the beaches of Normandie. Or did the managed to find them all and give them proper burials after the war?
Alot of soldiers wer missing, but manny dident drown acaly, thanks to the american cost gard that picked up manny soldiers from the water. Some airborne troops were also dropt to eraly or too late and fell in the sea.(felds were also flooded so there were also paratropers hwo drowned far inland of the beaches
Respect.... !

Redheadfury 2 years ago

Colloquial forces? Isn't that something about regional dialects?

War..
War never changes..

Nyllsor 2 years ago
It's English but with a heavy Scottish accent. There's no such language as "Scottish".
Brucey117 2 years ago
on the contrary, it's a regional dialect, a language in it's own right.
JakCurse 2 years ago
There is no such thing as Scottish Dumbass, Its an accent. it IS English, just with a strong accent.
PropagandaParade 2 years ago
great vid, but yer discription is stupid, its an accent , the words you used are way off what has saying, "monie mair huv gaun"? you can tell its really "many men have gone"
HerrHat 2 years ago
A really good song. I believe that he who created it lost his brother in the Great War, please correct me if I'm wrong.
Saving Private Ryan is one of the most realistic and true war movies ever created, even though some things were changed to match the script.
I wonder how many americans, british and canadians that drowned and still waits to be found outisde the beaches of Normandie. Or did the managed to find them all and give them proper burials after the war?
blaen24 2 years ago
Alot of soldiers wer missing, but manny dident drown acaly, thanks to the american cost gard that picked up manny soldiers from the water. Some airborne troops were also dropt to eraly or too late and fell in the sea.(felds were also flooded so there were also paratropers hwo drowned far inland of the beaches
Nyllsor 2 years ago
roughly 5000+ soldiers were put in unmarked graves after D-day
