i grow my own veggies cause everyone around her grows tomatoes and i Hate tomatoes so i grow my own stuff to have a more acceptable alternative. I like growing carrots and peppers and once i grew potatoes, they all came up very small but they were delicious!
There are so many wonderful web sites about sprouts, they're really encouraged me to try all kinds of sprouts and even seed mixes. YAY SPROUTS and YAY for lowered blood sugar!
You should of been here tonight for the Thai chicken stir fry I made. I went to an Asian market and got sesame oil, rice cooking wine and rice noodles. Man oh man!
They're so super easy to grow. Alfalfa might be a good one to start with, they're so mild and sweet (like you!) and are great in a tuna sandwich or salad.
i have some kind of infection that is getting worse as my antibiotics are not working so i must return to the docs tomo and get a different kind. gratz on the blood sugar :)
Lentils are next on my list! I don't think I've ever had them, altho my mom used to grow all kinds of sprouts back in the 70s. No telling what all I've eaten. :P
The raw taste of them reminds me of nibbling on ears of sweet corn before they were cooked. I tossed mine into a chicken stir-fry and they were quite tasty. I've been trying sprouts because of an interest in sustainable foods and have considered opening a sprout micro farm to supply various sprouts to people in my area. Flax seed is next on my list ;)
sprouts look awesome! gonna have to grow some myself.
it's the third week since my 2nd shoulder surgery and I'm getting better at this left-handed typing thing...am now on 5mg vicodin instead of 7.5...hope you are all better soon
You poor dear, I feel for you on the shoulder thing. One year I managed to tear both rotator cuffs and the pain was just insane! It's impossible to get comfy and you can't reach for things or move in a natural way at all. At least you've got vicodin, YUMMMM! ;)
yeah, thank God and Dr Cohen for the vicodin and flexeril! This is my 2nd surgery in 4 months... on the same shoulder! I fell a month after the 1st surgery and tore the internal sutures. Kept getting worse not better with P/T and MRI revealed 2nd tear. Oy vey! AND my hair is falling out... we think due to anesthesia.
I have an allergy to fresh tomato and over the years have grown to dislike them in general but I do love the little cherry tomatoes and I saw a kit at the store recently that's a hanging basket with cherry tomatoes growing in it. I'm thinking that and maybe the strawberry one as well would be great for the front porch!
My mom grew some of the cherry tomatoes in a large flower pot. One you would put a good lot of flowers in. I believe she had then in the shade on the patio. So you might want to try getting some plants and trying them in a planter. Might get more for your buck that way.
You pretty much read my mind. The back of the house (my room) faces west and gets a LOT of sun in the afternoon so I'm thinking that I'll graw some trailing/vine type plants back there. They'll love the sunshine and hopefully they'll shade the wall some and make it less than 300 degrees in here.
I'm thinking about maybe some green beans and your suggestion of snow peas sounds great!
Yes ma'am... you eat the whole darn thing, even the roots. When a plant is that young it's all very tender and crunchy and tastes the same all over.
You might enjoy growing some alfalfa sprouts, they're very mild and amazingly wonderful on pretty much any kind of sandwich instead of boring iceburg lettuce. They grow really fast too... in 4-5 days you'll probably be able to start eating them!
Sweet. I just told my mom we are going to try growing some sprouts. I'm going to check out the dollar stores and see what I find. I'll try the alfalfa ones to get me started. If it works out I'll make a vid to. Methinks you've started a sprout revolution. ;-)
I'm not sure where you can get the raw seeds.... you may have to go to a health/natural foods store. I know you didn't ask me but I just thought I'd steer you in that direction. ;)
There are several online stores that offer a variety of sprouts for both the occassional sprouter and the micro farmer and most describe the flavors of the varieties accurately. I find it really fun to grow them and even my kids are enjoying starting the sprouts 3-4 days ahead of salad or stir-fry night and watching them grow.
Ok you really have me curious about those sprouts. I want to try growing some now. But dumb question, can you eat the whole thing? You mentioned leaves growing. Can you eat those too? And glad to hear you are on the mend. You can't be sick when it is starting to warm up. :-)
Hey , you're funny, you should be in the
entertainment world.

Try eating roasted garlic! It's wonderful on toast or a bagel and it'll help knock out your infection, I promise!
Get well soon!

I've seen kits at Dollar General for putting together a hanging basket of the cherry tomatoes. I'm totally going to get one!

You have to grow some snow peas and sugar snaps. Delicious!
And they look so pretty, climbing and curling around everything.
