I remember hearing that story about the boy dying, Also, I remember hearing about a 12 year old girl getting brain damage from it and supposedly that's why they closed it down. I never found out if either rumor was true or not. Anyway, I loved this ride and remember the day they opened it @ Great America just outside of Chicago in 1985.
@PeteZavala Yes, that story was true. I lived in Georgia throughout the 80s and 90s and a young man DID break his neck on the Z Force. The 12 year old girl story doesn't ring a bell, but the broken neck is 100% true, it was all over the news at the time. The Z Force had a bad reputation as a killing machine.
@EmperorofCartoons On July 18, 1989, an 11-year-old boy from Talladega, Alabama became unconscious while riding Z-Force. Park staff performed CPR, but the victim was pronounced dead after being taken to the hospital.
he had a preexisting neck or heart condition (i forgot which), and he was unconscious when he returned to the station. he died shortly after being taken off the ride by paramedics.
it reopened after the boy's death but was removed shortly thereafter. it was part of a six flags ride rotation program anyway and was never intended to be a permanent fixture at the park.
That's Z-force at great america. it was moved to magic mountain and renamed flashback. now they are trashing it. no one ever liked it anyways, but they did consider moving it indoors. I went to magic mountain during summer.
That was Z-Force at Over Georgia. It moved from Great America to Over Georgia, then it moved for the final time to Magic Mountain. And anyways, that was the Braves manager talking about it.

@skullsk8er1230 Don't know exactly when it left SFoG, but it was scrapped in 2007 after sitting dormant at Magic Mountain for several years.

Back then the Z Force was looked at as futuristic coaster. It was replaced by the Ninja coaster that gives you a severe headache.

Ninja is such a lame ride!

Who the hell is Chuck Tanner?
travishayes1989 3 years ago
he was a former manager for the Braves for 2 years 86-88
Creepingdeathx81 3 years ago
(This is the same guy you replied to about Chuck)
Then that explains why I haven't heard of him. I was born in 1989, and the only manager I've known is Bobby Cox.
