  • Exactly how much sugar is too much? How much is toxic? I need to know in teaspoons and grams, how much is too much, because my body doesn't tell me. How many grams are in a candy bar? Is that a toxic amount?

  • @zdeaf I think you're body will tell you. If you're heart rate goes up significantly after a meal and you feel like you need a nap, you probably had too much sugar/carbohydrates in your meal. Also, if you experience frequent headaches or stiff joints, this could be from consuming too much sugar. I just try and eat most of my carbs in the form of fruits and veggies. Sugar in the form of raw honey, sucanat, or good quality maple syrup is okay, but in minimal portions as well.

  • u can knock off tons of weight in three months more or less with minimal exercise. in fact, after losing twenty thirty pounds this way, u will feel lots and lots of energy and ur mood will be uplifted.

  • btw, 2 lose weight and reverse diabetes, cut out all processed and junk foods, severly reduce if not eliminate white rice/pasta/bread, no sodas, colas or even fruite juices, just water, no red meat, and lots of chicken and fish with lentils and beans accompanied by veggeez and fruits and nuts/seeds. and o yeah, fish or chicken must be grilled or baked, not fried. may also need a good multi vitamin with extra b-complex vitamin, extra chromium, magnesium and vitamin D.

    if u religiously follow this

  • no wonder americans r fat as hell----our soil has depleted levels of vitamins and minerals and on top of that, most ppl dont wana spend time or energy 2 prepare/cook healthy food from scratch---its just so eazy dropping by a mcdonalds and order from da dollar menu, rite?!

  • Hi Natale

I like your videos on Health & Nutrition. Would I be allowed to use it in my training

poor and disadvantaged people in South Africa?

Please advise, also If I would like to have my own video made, how much will it cost?

  • Thank you.I needed to watch this.

  • Good Show Thanks fort the vid

  • Good job on your video I liked it very much!

  • Good job on your video I liked it very much!

  • I quit smoking 12 years ago, and subsequently replaced my habit with sugar. Now I'm trying to quit sugar. I have the same withdrawal symptoms, and wonder, what will I replace sugar with?

  • Cabochick23, that's easy. Replace sugar with meat! A high fat, meaty diet is the healthiest diet known to humanity.

The idea that saturated fats are fattening or bad for your heart are completely wrong, junk science. When you eat a lot of fats, your body excretes all the fat it does not need. It's called ketosis.

Check out a video with 'Barry Groves' at the 'Wise Traditions' conference. It's on Vimeo.

Cool book: Ignore the Awkward: How the Cholesterol Myths are Kept Alive by Uffe Ravnskov.

  • Is that Holland in the background?

  • thank you, this video was very informative.

  • Cute girl speaking something really useful. That's not very common..

  • As always, this video is really thought provoking

  • Losing weight is quite a journey, I watch video about it every week - it helps to keep me motivated, even if some of the advice is conflicting

  • Also, sugar cane was brought to the New World by Europeans to be grown on plantations.

  • About the "New World" foods...

I'm Native American (Tohono O'odham), and there's actually a high rate of diabetes on the reservation (I think I heard a statistic that like 70% of adults have it?). The truth is, that at least for our tribe, we weren't ever used to eating high-sugar foods like wheat (particularly -white bread-) until Anglo-Americans introduced it. Just native desert food like squash and beans. The American diet is killing us!

  • Just caught your video, will recommend it to my friends.

  • w w w t h e d i l u t e c u p c o m

  • All the candy and sweets in the background was a very poor choice. Its only making me want to go get some ice cream and drink a bunch of soft drinks or something.

  • I like how her hair isn't long enough to block the view.

  • I bet Natalie and Paula Dean would get along really well.

  • i can't listen to your annoying voice - you might have something good to say - but you are a very poor speaker

  • dmt ftw

  • I am a food addict. I over eat food, sugar and what ever. I like to eat all day. I hate being fat and your videos helped me understand more the reasons why I need to get help

  • @starteam144 ...........have a little discipline woman! This is why a woman can never be president...

  • Those pics are makin me wanna some sugarrrrrrrrrrrr .....

  • What is bad about white rice? Or is it not bad?

  • @jrlcgmx Nothing. Nothing wrong with sugar either. You just aren't supposed to eat too much of it.

  • You need to know what you are talking about before you talk about it on the web. You do NOT know about Diabetes. Do your research before you open your mouth

  • im lookin at the background more than payn attention to what she's sayn!!! i thought dis vid is suppose to help, nt make me wanna buy more candy and soda!!?

  • when you've lost enough weight how should you return to a normal diet without gaining weight back?

  • @GalaxyRose15 What do you call a normal diet? You NEVER have to diet to lose weight. Diets don't work, they are a scam. You don't start a diet, lose weight, and then return to eating the way you use to. Eating junk food, drinking soda, etc is not normal. To lose weight, learn how to eat healthy, and exercise a couple times a week minimum. That is it. It's super easy, and anyone in the entire world can do it. You can eat unhealthy stuff, just not everyday.

  • she is very correct on all of this. well done on this video.

  • I like your videos, I really do - but you're killing your own message with all the sugar treats on the screen behind you! I'm having a hard time buying into your message about fruit vs refined sugar, when all I can think about are the cookies and candy images!!

  • Hmm... after watching this video I have a sugar craving. XD

  • Thanks for the video, just wish it was much shorter, maybe just the last 3 minutes.

  • @MrREALISTICoptimism

Ugh, I knooooow. I wish that they'd start a blog and link you to a written article of everything she says or something. I could read this so much faster than if I had to listen to all of these videos.

  • This video was done in 2008 but hopefully you'll still read this. I want to know what cooking your fruits and veggies does to change the food. I'd also like to know the difference between fresh, frozen, and canned.

  • I like your videos!!! "wow, you're super beautiful, I'm a 33yr-old african american male, 6'1", phx,az I would love to get to know you!!! "xoxo"

  • Everything I read about prediabetes suggests that insulin receptors are the problem and that getting fat somehow "dumbs down" our receptors making the pancreas produce more insulin....and insulin knocks out the hormone leptin's affect on the brains pleasure or reward center which makes us stop eating....

  • Okinawas ate sweet potato, fish and veggies. The refined sugars, flours and rice take out Mn, Zn, Mg, Cr, Fe, vitamin E etc.... the fist of these nutrients is needed by the cell to grab the insulin, make the insulin etc... Man pulled out the nutrients we needed to handle the sugary food and we are going diabetic

  • I would like to see a video concerning supplements such as muscle milk

  • Although Japan's smoking rate is very high compared to USA and European countries, Japanese ppl has the longest life expectancy in the world. I think it means having too much sugar is more harmful than smoking. Japan's per-capita volume of sugar consumption is the lowest among developed countries. Anyway, it is certain that obesity people who don't smoke can't live longer than smokers who try to eat healthy.

  • i love sweet sugary stuff, soft drinks, fat and all that stuff. the only stuff i can think i hate in all unhealthy stuff is all KFC and macdonalds, meat( im vegetarian) and over sweet stuff. im afraid my teeth will rot and that i will be very fat, but i cant stop myself. i have sugar addiction. PLEASE HELP (ps, my teeth arent white, but not super ugly. and im also in ok shape.)

  • Bloody hell is she shouting?

  • I just wonder if you can put less photos of sugar in the background, because it seems like it is tempting me to eat them and that I have a bit of difficulties in concentrating in the video......I know I am being a loser, but thank you for the video. It is very imformative.

  • Sugar is probably the only substance which is both addictive and legal to sell to children. it's sick really I hate and love it, but I wish they would put restrictions on it's use the way they did with transfats.

  • what about hobnobs?

  • so is eating jacket potatoes bad

  • How much sugar a day would you have to eat to get diabetes???

  • amen

  • very informative and helpful...thanks!

  • "and it can cause a trip"

She says that like it's a bad thing.

What plants can you eat and get DMT trips from then?

  • peanut butter and nuts seem like a good food, but so high in fat!!! can you request food that have the same protein but not as much fat?

  • 6:51 OMG she is killing me by putting that chocolate in the background.

  • just eat fruits they have fructose which gets digested properly unlike refined sugar that gets stored as fat right away.if your diabetic you shouldn't even take in any sugar or carbs. oh and people saying that a high carb diet is bad is because they either are never active or just are on a special diet to lose weight. CARBS is a source of ENERGY if you DONT use THAT ENERGY of course you gain weight because you dont burn it through exercise and workingout.

  • you are amazing

  • What interests me is that attractive young lady. I would like to request more of her.

  • lol true brother lol

  • I have basetball practise everyday anf I eat a balanced diet but still I have this extra fat around my belly, is the only way I can get rid of it to eat less food?

  • it's possible that eating less would cause your body to hoard the fat even more. i'd talk to a doctor about it.

  • not really you are talking about your metabolism crashing but that can be stopped by eating less (about 100-500 calories below your intake) and always exercise to keep your metabolism up. I went low on calories (About 1000 a day) and kept my metabolism high by exercising everyday. although i dont reccomend it.

  • Eat less saturated fat or no fat at all (look for food labels) and also run ALOT i have lost all the fat from my body by just running everyday about 2-4 miles.

  • Okay, I had to pause the video to make this comment...why do you put pictures of sugary foods in the background? It's killing me! I crave sugar bad enough as it is. It's like having advertisements for crisp cool beer on the wall of a room holding an AA meeting!!

  • Im gettin a sugar high just by watching you. So beautiful.

  • It should also be noted that the amount of sugar present in modern corn is excessively higher than what was present at the time Europeans first started colonizing the New World, due to selective breeding.

  • topic: how does teh body store fat? let's say you're very hungry and consume 400 calories at lunch. does your body use all 400 of those calories as they're metabolized or does it use maybe 200 of those calories at the moment and store 200 as fat and use those over the next 4 hours before your next meal?

  • that can be avoided. this is why carbs can be good or bad for you. if your an athlete then carbs are a MUST but if you dont do shit then avoid carbs and sugar. i eat a crap load of whole wheat and i still havnt gained a pound for years.

  • Oooohhh! I've read a great deal about nutrition, but this is the first I've heard that the pancreas will produce more insulin because the body is expecting a load of sugar with the next meal.

That is very good to know! It helps explain why people become addicted to sugar. There was another video that showed an experiment with rats eating sugar. Their brains produced opiods! So the rats were literally, biochemically addicted to sugar!

Rats and humans have similar biochemistries.

  • Yes its called an insulin spike that is also why people get fat stored from eating sugar. this can be avoided by not eating refined sugar and eat some other desert like fruits which contain fructose which must be digested thus is alot more nutritional for the colons.

  • who els thinks she is hot

  • yep. DMT really makes u trip.

  • I've been off sugar for 2 weeks because of your video. I used to drink only Mountain Dew.

  • She is that hot, and seemingly pretty smart.

  • Sugar is the problem and can cause diabetes. ( refined, simple sugars )

Most people have no clue how bio chemistry works.... ask a doctor about the cell structures and how sugar works and how it gets into the cell, I bet they can't answer.

Doctors all they are good for are prescribing drugs, thats it.... they treat the symptoms only, never the cause.

Sugar causes diabetes, simple. ( refined and simple sugars anyways

If you disagree, than it means you have no idea how resistance to insulin is

  • What is your definition of refined? Mine is polished bread, polished pasta, polished rice, etc; sucrose, brown sugar, molasses, HFCS, CS, (basically any synthetic sugar added to foods) I only use agave nectar and maple syrup. I wish I had a sugarcane plant because real cane is actually good in moderation.

I wish it was ONLY diabetes. Addiction to simple carbs is destroying the bacteria that has a symbiotic relationship in your intestine(by lack of B vits) that help digest gluten, hence Celiacs.

  • hi! could u do a video on 'how to stop binge eating'

  • finally! i think sugar is the real problem in America, forget smoking and alcohol. sugar is EVERYWHERE!

  • I agree there is sugar in amost everything in america that is why i choose fiber rich foods and fruits, veggies as a source of food.

  • i would agree but it so hard to eat thos foods in our modern society. most of the time i dont have time or energy to come home and cook a fiber rich food or make a salad. so i have to get something on the go. blaahhkk

thus this is where America gets its fat ass. we have to work work work, and meet the budget or we wont have a stove to cook on.

  • @killlagger468 I think it's a vicious cycle - if I eat good food then I have enough energy to cook good food! If I eat crap then I don't have enough energy to make a good meal, and I'm more likely to buy frozen meals or hit Burger King. For me, it was very helpful when a friend gave me a boost by spending a day with me making a bunch of very healthy chicken pot pies which I could freeze. That way when I have a low energy day there is healthy food waiting for me at home. It broke the cycle.

  • @killlagger468 Actually, alcohol is identical to sugar.

  • @aleterra C(12)H(22)O(11) and C(2)H(5)OH. are completely different. one actually is derived from the other i agree and in any regards both have potential for abuse. but i don't see one being restricted like the other. and you certainly don't have to be a certain age to get one from the other. let alone go to a specialized store or gathering to get it. so the issue stay, but hey. it will never change, politicians love to drink and eat sweets, god forbid you take any of those away.

  • @killlagger468

Sugar is in tobacco and alcohol.. Alcohol is mostly sugar.

  • @killlagger468 Sugar is not the problem. People ingesting too much sugar is the problem. If someone is dumb enough to think soda, candy, and junk food are ok to eat and drink all the time, they deserve to be unhealthy.

  • well, i dont feel like I'm dying--a few days later, but i still have no energy. What do you think about eating honey? Or the "hibernation diet"?

  • eat fruits they have natural sugars, like strawberries, grapes

  • if you're feeling weak it can be your body getting used to changes but the more important question are you physically active? that is needed to know because people who do physical activity and dont get enough protein or carbs eventually get fatigued faster and could even faint.

  • i only drank Mountain Dew as my only form of liquid intake for 10 years straight. I watched this video and started drinking water only! However, It has been only 3 days and I am so sick with flu-like symptoms that I can barely raise my arm to type this comment. Am I dying?? PLEASE HELP!!!

  • Melissa, you're going through WITHDRAWL!! Sugar is a drug and you have removed the steady supply of it to your body. It's no different than quitting cigarettes or heroine. Anyone who thinks sugar "isn't THAT bad" needs to try kicking it from their diet 100%. The withdrawl you will go through will open your eyes (maybe). Of course few people are even interested in quitting sugar. They've been brainwashed into thinking it's food and eating it is some sort of birthright. Just wait it out.

  • Hope you aint dead and feel better at this point. I think you went through withdraw. Your body became accustom to the Mountain Dew and when you cut it off your body went into a state of panic. You might have felt head aches and low energy for a while.

  • all the candy in the back doesn't make it easier to be healthy lol

  • So is it not ok to consume potatoes if you are of Euro, African or Asian descent? Or is it ok to consume them if you eat them with a protein? Help! I thought potatoes were ok because they are a whole food.

  • Actually, unless you're south-american, you're not evolutionarily used to eating potatoes. But I don't think tha's her point. ^^

  • Its ok to eat potatoes as long as you watch how many of them you eat and keep track of your caloric intake. you coud eat one for lunch but remember to keep track of the calories of foods you eaten. potatoes have around 200 kcals which isnt too bad but remember to balance everything you eat.

  • I've heard that eating potatoes with skin on (make sure you clean them well) also helps bring the glycemic index way down. Now that's usually the only way I'll eat them.

  • DMT IS NEVER TOXIC!!!!!!!

BTW, lousy video. The video was very deceiving. There are two types of sugar. Fructose and Glucose. Fructose is the healthy sugar that doesn't need a restriction, and it's found in Fruit. Glucose is the unhealthy sugar that's terrible for you and is found in foods such as chocolate. Basically it originates from Cane Sugar and Beet Sugar.

Diabetics can eat Fructose, fruit is perfectly fine for a diabetic. But this videos never specified that, sad.

  • i agree about the deceiving part --

"tOO Much oxygen can be toxic." ??????!?!?!?!?!?!?

We can never have enough oxygen in our bodies, People sleep in hyperbaric chambers in order to heal and build muscle faster.

Oxygen cannot be be toxic to us

  • Yes it can!

  • No it cant.....

    you idiot

  • Why don't you at least google it before you start name calling and making ignorant claims?

  • ever heard of anit-oxidants? Free oxygen atoms roam around the body and literally rip electrons from surrounding cells (remember HS chemistry - free radicals?) i.e. the point of anti-oxidants job is to absorb these free oxygen molecules. Do some RESEARCH!!!!!!

  • Think about what she is saying!!!!.....

youd have to be inhaling pure oxygen for days.

The air we breathe is less than 21%n oxygen.

  • Her point was simply that anything in excess is toxic. Even healthy foods. More importantly, some foods are unhealthy in relatively small doses, like transfats. Sugar is just energy to your body, it's not a nutrient. This is why it's very important not to fill your tank with more energy than you need. How would your car function if you overfilled the tank? It wouldn't because it's designed to be impossible to overfill. People can be overstuffed i.e. poisoned...

  • OH YEAH i agree

what shes talking about is definately full of merit with the sugar thing.

  • Nataly, I would like to go on a date with you!

    (seriously)

  • My question is... Where do you find all of the SUPER FOODS? I watched your video on super foods and only could find a few of them... I would really like to know where you shop for that Acai Berry?

    P.S. I live in Colorado.

  • hey health food stores are everywhere in colorado!! check out a whole foods or vitamin cottage and ask for acai berry (ah-sah-ee) But realistically acai juice is not a super food as it has to be pasteurized in order to be shelved... this effectively destroys much of the purported antioxidant benefits but lots of good info in this video anyway :)

  • damn, i was eating frosting before this

  • everything she says is absolutely correct from what i know.

  • Natalies presentations are very understandable and persuasive. Thanks

    GRADE A

  • you mentioned about diabetes type 1 when a person is born with an inability to produce insuline, but that´s not necessarily true for the part of being born with. My husband was diagnosed with diabetes type 1 when he was 35 years old and then we had our second daughter which was diagnosed as well when she was 1 and half years old, very rare, but happens. Both depend on insulin injections of course. Thanks a lot for all the data!

  • Oh wow this video is amazingly helpful!

  • what about booger sugar ?

  • very informative good vid!

  • Comment removed

  • so should I cut out potatoes and corn from my diet??

  • Can I have some sugar, Sugar. XD ZINGER!

  • love it!!!

  • potato chips, is the vitamin E worth it in old dutch brand? should i cut off my entire source of potato chips? im otherwise healthy but im a sucker for them. Thanks Nat!

  • actually someone did die while playing a a game for a radio show, she drank too much water too fast and drowned

  • Yes you can. If you drink too much water, eventually your kidneys will not be able to work fast enough to remove sufficient amounts from the body, so the blood becomes more dilute with low salt concentrations. Also it can cause your brain to swell which makes bodily functions irregular, brain damage more or less, and your breathing can stop.

  • Does sugar cause brain cells to die??

I am in my fourties (OLD)---and I consume lots of sugar--but I work out also, my weight is normal??, I know depression can cause your brain to shrink, but SUGAR>>>

  • sugar does not cause diabetes

  • It doesn't? Why not? :S

  • Sugar does not cause type 1 diabetes. Type 1 Diabetes is an auto immune disease where the body's own immune system attacks the insulin producing beta cells in the pancreas. Sugar plays no role in the development of this disease.

  • Damn lmfaoo

  • Type 2 diabetes is a largely genetic disease that can often be triggered by being overweight or obese or by living a sedentary lifestyle. But roughly 20% of people who develop type 2 have normal weight and activity level. There has been some speculation that Fructose can contribute to poor glycmic control (primarily due to the overproduction of uric acid with the consumption of fructose). But to say that sugar causes diabetes is far over reaching.

  • Just like cigarettes don't cause lung cancer, sugar does not cause type 2 diabetes.

  • I love sugar.

  • Simple sugars are bad! Complex sugars (from natural foods) are better... Most people don't drink too much water! You kind of have to be whack to drink too much water.........

  • actually.. it wasn't that clear.. :c sorry

  • Thanks Natalie, Looking at the french fries made me think, Deep fried sugar beets would be great!

  • i am sugar dependent, what should i do? if i cut on the sugar ASAP you say, my insulin's gonna push it to a very low level, so how should i do it? how could i lose my dependency? my addiction?

  • This video tells you what to do doesn't it?

  • Can you tell us more about apple cider vinegar and the possible health benefits?

  • I have a question. Some say that potatoes is so good for you with lots of vitamins etc..and some say no it's really bad and you shouldn't eat it because then you'll gain weight etc...

Is potatoes bad food or good food?

Btw. I love all your videos Natalie. I've learned so much from them and I'm eating so much healthier now than I did before. And I feel a LOT better! :-) so thank you very much!

  • i have a question why is it that i dont eat sugar but iam still fat i did lose weight from leaving sugar but iam still fat

  • lower your intake of fat and do 30 min of cardiovascular exercise every day.

  • Ummmm, no. Insulin doesn't "bind" glucose for uptake. Insulin binds a receptor on muscle, fat and liver cells to recruit a transporter (GLUT4) to bring glucose into the cell. Insulin resistance is the failure of the receptor to signal adequate transporter function.

  • Your hot Natalie, Thanks for the great video. Do think that if one glass of wine is good, one gallon is probably better?

  • does this mean that eating too much fruit is bad for you?

  • eating fruit is never bad for you.

  • don't talk when you haven't a clue. yes, fruit is just sugar. table sugar is half glucose, half fructose whereas fruit is all fructose--sugar is sugar, though.

  • It's not going to be detrimental to your health, but if you seek to lose bodyfat and improve your health limit the fruit, ditch processed foods... and have a higher intake of leafy green vegetables.

  • yeah, the best way to stay healthy is to eat a balance diet. By eating too much of one kind of food, you are not eating enough of other foods like dairy, and protein, and healthy fat and you will develope a deficiency.

  • great vid, but can someone please explaine wat she meant about the corn, patateoes and sugar cane.

Dose she mean not to eat those foods or dose she mean in thier processed forms ?

  • It's about their molecular structure, because they have starch in them which is a different molecular structure than the complex sugars found in other vegetables.

In other words, they are not premium vegetables and if you want to have a serious eating plan you should limit these carbohydrates.

  • Too much sugar can be toxic?

    Wow.

    I never knew that.

  • Thank you, very useful information. I need to watch the two other videos on how to break the addiction.

  • I would really appreciate it if you could please list some books that are reliable and explain nutrition and fitness in depth, maybe the ones you used to study? Thank you

  • After seeing all your films realized i use to much sugar I will change habit NL)

  • I feel better knowing that this weird obsession I have for sweets could be an addiction. Thanks for the video!

  • Actually, sugar isnt the problem any more, its high fructose corn syrup. Everything we eat is made from corn and its not healthy.

  • Why do so many snacks, foods, and beverages have such high concentrations of suger and other processed bulls**t?

  • Plastic adds let food be fresh a long time, give great color, look and ( in my opinion)addict consumers. If you eat it you need it more and more like drugs.. Have you ever seen organic food? I had carrot in my garden - believe me it didn't look so perfect like carrot from supermarket.

  • scientists have shown that suger in the diet has a similar opiet type effect as cocaine and heroine but obviously a very subtle version. people who are hooked will continue to buy foods they are hooked on! I believe society resists healthy food promotion because major markets have a vested interest in us all becoming sugar addicted zombies who consume far more than necessary.. can you see wall mart wanting everyone to get into salads? not a chance, the are making a killing quite litteraly

  • Nice theory. However, she is a professional.

She has a degree in nutrition and is a registered dietitian.

  • Thanks for this great information. I think, if more people in america and the world rebelled against excess sugar, we would have a mental clarity revolution!

  • How do I conquer my suger addiction, cravings and withdrawals? By the way this is very informative & thank you for posting!=0

  • You have to stop to eat sweets, bread, fruits, pasta, rice etc.for 14days. After few days you should be free-the level of sugar in your blood will be normal. 5days are terrible,,, i was dreaming about " mars" every night;) find on the Internet information about " The South Beach Diet" it should help you.

  • I Have to give it a go...Thanks!
