He Said that line to Mary Jane because he felt that no one understands his father and he believes in his father the most and wants to make him proud and get back appreciation from him and maybe one day fill his shoes because he believes he's a good man. Ironically When he and Harry's Father were talk Green Goblin was talking to harry the entire time.
