Firstly, white women do not benefit from preferential treatment ("affirmative action") nearly as much as blacks, Hispanic, and Native Americans, b/c they (white women) do not receive nearly as much of it.

You missed the point. That lower-class white man is just as liable to snatch your purse just the same as that lower-class black man. That's the thing Obama is trying to show everyone...it's not about race anymore but economic class.

I don't know why you brought up jail numbers. Cause that just goes back to economic class. The disparity between poor people and rich people in jail is EVEN LARGER than black vs. white!!

And why is there such a disparity of rich vs. poor in jail? Cause the rich can afford better lawyers. Cause the rich usually arent in a position where they NEED to come up with quick cash so they can feed their family.

Your jail comment makes you sound like BillO. What's your point? Those numbers indicate 1 of 3 things to be the culprit. Blacks are morally inferior, there are a lot more poor black people, or theres a lot of racism in the police department. Which do you believe is most likely?

How do we make sure that every child in America has a decent shot in pursuing their dreams?"

I still don't see what's evasive about his answer in April. It seems to me that he addressed the question once again.

Are we to expect our next President to have all his own answers to Americas social issues in his back pocket?

A reasonable person would expect a leader to build a working consensus across partisan lines in order to address landmark issues such as Affirmative Action...not just someone who's going to tell you what he's always wanted to do, given the chance.

The 4/08 statement is evasive because it avoids a direct answer to the question of whether or not he supports AA. I personally enjoyed the nuance for the reasons you cite, but I'm a flaming lib who's not so sure we're ready to throw out AA.

But for those on the right who think that Rev. Wright or the UCC's pastor-of-the-week better represent Obama's views than Obama himself, a forceful anti-AA statement would be a big winner.

Of course America should reject "Dominionist vetting". The problem is, we haven't. In fact, that's the demographic I'm talking about: "folks who believe in Demonionist vetting". These people believe the vetting has exposed Obama as a Farrakhan disciple. Fox's Obama coverage is dedicated to "proving" the case. Fair or not, it could cause great damage to Obama's campaign. Injecting into the news cycle a fresh AA statement that these folks happen to agree with would be a reasonable defense.
