Exactly, the driver did his best, and put the car into a brave 'scandie' manoever to scrub off speed. Hard to fault here. He immediately ran out of pavement, so no hope for a drift.
When I started racing I received the following advice: always be ready for an accident because it is not "if" it is going to happen but in fact a matter of "when"... the driver is the only one who really knows what happened
Eduhart A variation on that theme lol, I was always told "Write your car off as soon as you step onto the track" Because wrecking your car is always a sure possibility.
Sure is... it took me 14 races to have my first fender-bender and on the 15th race I wrecked my first car for good! But all in all, if I am not mistaken, I had only three small accidents, quite a lot of spin outs, lost 1 VW Beetle and 1 VW Fox in accidents in about 80 races... But just for the fact that i have made a childhood dream come true, I guess I am really lucky. [ ]
hhn2002 is half right. judging from the slide the miata caught before the rear wheels hit the dirt, he could've maintained that slide or straightened the car. but when he hit the dirt, it was pretty much going to be a spin no matter how fast he corrected. so in the case of the video, no he couldn't have drifted out of that. but if he didn't hit the dirt he might be able to.
no, there is no way you could safely drift out of that you tool. you play too many video games. that car is not set up to "drift" go back to your video games
It's amusing when folks who have ABSOLUTELY no idea what they're talking about post as if they do. He's going about 120mph into that braking zone, downhill. You try "drifting safely out of that."
i mean no disrespect but i am an avid follower of everything drift related. this is qouted on motortends page about the recent redbull drift championship, For this weekend's racing, Red Bull commissioned a bespoke track be built with a 100-mph-plus entry speed through the first corner and six tight turns thereafter. Millen, coincidentally, achieved the fastest first corner speed with a 103.7-mph pass."
it would have been possible if the driver had the skills and noticed very very early on.
Nonsense!! You failed, apparently, to notice that this wasn't a drift event. This is a race car. This was a race. There's a difference. This RACER was going 120mph, not 100mph. Downhill. Etc., etc., etc. Stick to what you know when making critical comments; it's very clear you have absolutely no idea what you're talking about when it comes to driving a race car.
Well there not really "Stock" coming from the North Atlantic Road Racing Champion Brandon Bogart. Thats me they are not stock motors. I have a race purpose built Robello motor in my 1999 Mazda MX-5. Also you run the Sprinfeild Racing Exhaust. Etc,etc, etc.
i give the driver credit for assessing the situation as fast as he/she did, most drivers freak out (including racesr ive found) and just go straight into the wall
maybe he was playing this music in his car and got so into the beat he forgot he was driving

Yes but that car that Rhys is driving is set up to drift perfect weight, downforce, and alingment. This Spec Miata is meant to race.

the problem is would u know how hard it would be to slide a near stock powered miata with RA-1s using 700 front 300 rear spring rates?
