i am russian and i think the translation is not so correct :) Absolutely loses it''s idea. For example: ''Molodim vezde u nas doroga, starikam vezde u nas pochyot'' means ''there''s a future in the hands of young people, and there's a respect for old people everywhere in our country''. Here it is translated as:''our country is truly free, a truly magnificient one''.

@buratino321 You're wrong, I am not against Germany, I like the country. It is simply because this fella is mentioning Hitler that I needed to say"Germany", you see. DDR is one of my favourite countries and I recognize that the German people is ashamed of the crimes that it was compelled to do.
@coldwarsailor and you are proud of saying that yor beloved and glorious GOEBBELS started all that crap of the millions killed by Stalin. Bullshit! It's nothing but nazi propaganda recycled by western liberals and social-democrats in order to attack communism (they also saved and supported fascists like in Operation Odessa, Operation Gladio, the Coup against Allende and the support to Franco) Then, they used the same lies against Mao, Kim Il Sung, Ho Chi Minh, Kim Jong Il and so on
Translation way off. The translations is communicating the overall scheme but, failing in accuracy. The words are much more elaborate than the translation.
Whoever has done the translation is a moron. The words of the actualsong do not correspond at all to the fake translation. Either the tranlator doesn't know the Russian language or else he has done it on purpose. The translation is really really stupid. The lyrics in the actual song are much better.

Figuratively you're right. The first word in this song literally translates as "wide", "broad". I simply wanted to bring exact translation and meaning of the song. You can find my comment about some grammatical misfits.
Actually the user FlittingQueen gave a tranlation of the song somewhat closer to literary language. IHMO
6) The greatness and glory of these words will not be erased by any years a man always has a right to learn, to rest and to work 7) Oh, my home country is so wide (meaning big) there are a lot of forests, fields and rivers I don't know any other country where a man can breathe so freely I don't know any other country where a man can breathe so freely
4) Oh, my home country is so wide (meaning big) there are a lot of forests, fields and rivers I don't know any other country where a man can breathe so freely I don't know any other country where a man can breathe so freely 5) No one is unwanted at our table Everyone is rewarded according to his deserts we write with golden letters nation-wide Stalin's law
Though there are several versions of this song, here I would like to translate this version (1936) of the song. It is very patriotic and later they removed lyrics about Stalin and the song sounded much better
Hmm...that soviet map is too big...why are you including the other eastern european countries? They were comunists, but they never part of the soviet union, which is the nation of this song
USSR included Russia (as a main part), Ukraine, Belarus, Moldova, Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, Georgia, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan, Tajikistan, and Kyrgyzstan. All of these mentioned countries are on the map that is shown in the clip. Other Soviet bloc eastern European countries like Poland, Czechoslovakia, Yugoslavia, Hungary, Romania, Bulgaria and one western European country (Eastern Germany) are not included in the map shown above.
well, it was more independent than other Warsaw Treaty Organization countries but it was very easy to travel there for Soviet people from USSR. In an nutshell Yugoslavia was sort of mini Soviet Union
It was an independent socialist country, just like China or Cuba. The system was transitional between western and eastern model, closer to the soviet ideas.
And in this very year (1936) the soviet purges were at the highest. Hundreds of thousands of innocent people were herded to concentration camps in Siberia, dying there of cold and famine. But the Soviet propaganda was producing wonderful songs! by the way, this melody was the signal of Radio Moscow, until the end of the soviet regime.
y country is large and wide. There are a lot of woods, fields and rivers. I can hardly name a country where a man can breath so free(i.e. where a human being has such freedom). From Moscow to outscurts of the country, from mountains on the South to the Northen seas, it's Human who is Master of his huge Motherland. Everywhere here life is free and wide as Volga-river (meaning that life is full-fledged and interesting). Youth is always welcomed here, Elder people are respected... etc.
bwahaha... the translation is WRONG! Nothing to do with workers, it is about the people of Russia! Why is this Lenin in the video? The Damn Red was long gone when the song was written!
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
The Soviet Union is responsible of ten of millions of deaths. Lenin was a tyrant who created a famine for his benefit and let his successor the monster Stalin murder 30 million more.
This country had made many war crimes, the Reds are a cancer that should be gone!
Your lies mean nothing! Lenin was no tyrant and he did not even want Stalin to lead the Soviet Union, get your facts! The famine was caused by capitalists who stole from the Soviet state. Lenin was a hero.
Soviet war crimes gives a short overview about serious crimes committed by the Red Army's (1918-1946, later Soviet Army) leadership and an unknown number of single members of the Soviet armed forces from 1919 to 1990 inclusive including those in Eastern Europe in late 1944 and early 1945, particularly murder and rape. Neither by any international military jurisdiction nor the Red Armys leadership have any of its members have ever been charged with war crimes by a court of law.

This song is NOT from East Germany. There is not a single instance where they sing "Vaterland".
The mere fact that you own a CD with Ernst Busch singing a German translation of that song does not convert it into a song from East Germany.

My mistake, bitch.
And for your information it was a song that was sung in East Germany by Ernst Busch. The Russians may have made it first but Ernst Busch made it best.
