I was about 10 or 11 when this album came out, and this was my favorite song on it. As I recall it, Eric and Woody wrote the song. Must google I suppose.
Thanks for the video. I just loved this song. We didn't get to see many shows they were on here in Southern California, except for Mike Douglas or Dinah Shore a few times. Are there any DVD's out there?? Nice memories. I just love the Bay City Rollers.... I LOVE YOU ERIC!!!
now that I'm older I can also appreciate how good looking Alan was too even though when I was 12 he seemed so much older even though he was younger than Derek and only 3 years older than Woody
My Mum was scared i might be gay in the 1970's,as i had these guys on every inch of my bedrom walls and ceiling! Not to worry,i just LOVED their music and image, and unlike other teenage boys,i wasn't afraid to show it!Drove my girlfriend mad, tho. She was a Showaddyaddy fan!
Love Les's little facial comments and gestures during this song. "Turn but no one's there" (he turns around). "Your name in lights up in the stars" (he looks up). "your friends all drinking champagne from your hands" (makes like he's drinking, then holds his hand out) Tooooo adorable. LOVE these guys
Sadly, I lost ALL of my LPs and 45s when I went away to college and my MOTHER (I'll never forgive her for this) placed ALL of my records in the attic and they all melted!!! It broke my heart to lose ALL of my BCR albums :( Thank Goodness for Amazon, Barnes & Noble and eBay where at least I can buy CDs! and keep my mother away from these too!
I am a 43 year old Danish woman who was a big BCR fan when I was a teen. I got to meet Les and was the happiest girl until I saw him with his boyfriend John. It broke my poor teenage heart. Saw the BCR in concert about 15 years ago, where Les and Ian looked like a couple of old junkies. That was such a sad sight to see.
But I still love the music and can still get the same feelings I got when I listend to once upon a star, you're a woman and all of the other great songs they did.
Ianandsyd, had to hear the story from the horses mouth as it were!, Not many illusions were shattered - he still has his fans and he was very brave to say what he did. : )
Oh come on, ALL the big stars of the time were the same... Bowie (Ziggy Stardust the androgyne), T-Rex, Elton John, Gary Glitter, the whole music scene in those days was full of guys like Les McKeown. Why make a big fuss about them?
@flyingfrenchfifer er, that shows a very shaky grasp of sexuality! Les admiited to being bisexual. I don't think Bolan did, Bowie only did as a publicity stunt, Elton has always been 100% gay (apart from the brief marriage when he had a thwarted ambition to be a father) and Gary Glitter is into underage girls. So I hardly think that constitutes them "all being the same".
Hi Anne thanks for your reply.I know what you mean.We saw Les and his band at "Big in Falkirk" a couple of years ago.Still the same old magic !!.Love this track, been looking for it for ages. Those were the days eh? and I'm a guy lol.Loved seeing all the lassies in their tartan gear ! Is there a Rollers tribute band I wonder. All the best,Ian.
Hey Ian, thanks for your reply, I've seen Les and the band a few times in wembley stadium and a couple of other places yes those were the days alright, there is a glamrock tribute band called Fab 208 who play 70s music including Rollers - dont know if there any others! best wishes Anne
I remember my friend and I screaming every time they came on the TV.. and when they Came to The State Fair In Michigan.. Omg we were in Heaven.. front spot just gazing at Woody.. oh those wonderful Memories!!! love this song!!
Thanks for posting! And be sure to check out the posting under the YouTube search THE ROLLERS SHOW. I highly recommend it!! Rollers Forever!!! thanks.
Pink: my mom's the one who got me into them. She went to see them when she was my age. She won't tell me what she DID at the shows, but watching these videos, I have a pretty good idea!
my mum 2 she got me into them. my grandma and grandad were about to let her go to a show but a girl got crushed i think. aw! keep on rollin choosesarah :0)
So they said she couldn't go because a girl got crushed? This is what I've been saying for a long time: girls' hormones are just as crushing as guys'. And the BCR can get any normal girls' hormones doing really weird things. Keep on rollin, too, Pink!
Danielle: THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU for this and the other videos you have posted. How did you GET them??? I am 46 and was sooooo in love with the Rollers when I was 14, 15. I loved all of them, but Ian was my favorite.Seeing these videos is just wonderful - it brings tears to my eyes! The guys are all just so adorable (hey - check out Eric's butt at 1:07-1:10 - wooooooo !!) All their music is wonderful and happy - better than most of the crap that's put out today.
iv met eric faulkner. last saturday at selby. hes ace. i didnt really know who he was because im only twelve but i did know that my mum really liked him when she was my age. what an amazing guitar player
Gosh how I loved Leslie. So many memories especially the one where I smacked my lips on to his and wouldn't let go of him. Imagine going to the disco and suddenly you turn around and there he is, the love of your life your idol and you can just grab him and kiss him. I tell you all, it was so wierd... a dream come true. Thanks for reminding me*S* with this video...
Hej xxvampiresxx... I think in 1978. The day after I met Leslie again, I was chosen by a newpaper to go to the press conferrence. So I have this great foto og Leslie and me( gosh how often did I not dream) I took a lot of photos too. One of Leslie picking peanuts out of his teeth with a finger *lol* Shows that if you wish hard enough for something...wishes might come true... Did however also wait for Barnabas Collins the vampire to come bite me... but he never did*S*
This video perfectly showcases Leslie's abilities as a front man...he really knows how to work that camera! Once Upon A Star was always one of my favorite albums.
Dunno what it is about this song but it makes me feel happy everytime I hear it ... I now have it stuck in my head and find myself breaking out in song all over the place ...lol ... still, happy is a good thing ... thanks for posting :0)

You do know there are penalties for slandering someone? A song is not proof. I've seen enough proof to know your comments here are a lie. In person.

any time women like someone and they become heart throbs or major studs...the MEN always make them out to be gay.
I think it is a jealous thing.
Teesdale007 3 years ago 3
lol that could be...but women can be vicious too. Especially about him it seems. But you're right it's a jealous thing!
JanH1961 3 years ago
Only one of them were gay and his name was IAN, IAN IS GAYYY!!
callywack90 3 years ago
Ian is not gay. He's been married for quite a long time now. He is a motivational speaker and lives in Las Vegas with his wife.
