  • So simple yet so beautiful! I don't understand a word of it but so much better than any of the English versions available online.

  • älskar låten

  • This is, I must say even more beautiful than the original English version. Beautiful voice, beautiful language and absolutely stunning interpretation. Love it! Thanks for posting.

  • Thanks for the info scottishphotographer. I didn't know any of this, just that in the current Craig Revel Horwood directed UK tour this song is sung by Svetlana.

  • Wow, this is amazing, i'm currently doing this song in my singing lessons, and this interpretation has really helped me nail down the emotional side of it, her emotions sound so sincere and that's what really gains the sympathy vote, b/c at the end of the day, what the character is doing is wrong, so it takes an incredibly good singer/actress to make the audience feel sorry for her, and she definitely does!

  • @noclassatall

    Helen Sjöholm

  • Florence doesn't sing this song in the show. Svetlana (the Russian's wife) sings it.

  • @Jottie11 'Someone Else's Story' was written for the New York production, and the character of Florence. The song was then sung by Svetlana in the concert version at the Royal Albert Hall (presumable to give Kerry Ellis something to do other than the 'I Know Him So Well' duet). Between these two events, 'Inte jag', a very different lyric, was written to the music of 'Someone Else's Story' for the Swedish production and sung by Florence.

  • Helen!

    Vilken underbar känsla du har......

    Tack för alla låtar!

    Ngn i Sumpan.....

  • Wow.

Phenomenal interpretation of the song, gorgeous voice. Perfect. Of the eight productions I've heard, she is by far my favorite Florence.

  • This is beautiful, Helen Sjöholm is an incredibly talented swedish musical artist and singer... Fantastic! And she really delivers this in swedish (a language I speak)...Gorgeous!

  • One word.

    Fantastic!!!

  • What a beautiful voice...wow

  • I really think this one is my favorite version of the song. Sutton is wonderful, so is Lea...but this version is SO sung from the gut!

  • :D You can tell she's really singing it, feeling the emotions. It's my favorite also.

  • I don't get a single word but this is still totally gorgeous... wonderful voice, great rendition in total, actually. you go girl

  • What a voice! What an interpretation! Beautiful :)

  • Den här låten är så vacker och Helen är underbar, precis som alltid.

  • hi guys, can anybody further explain this scene to me? i need to sing this song in class and i wanna "feel" the song. thanks!

  • I think she is telling the story of her own life, but pretending she is someone else. Maybe you should look for the version with Lea Salonga, there it's translated in English. Sorry for my bad english haha. Good luck

  • She's kind of.. finally realising her man treats her bad, but she's still denying it by saying (translated) "not me, that happens to other woman"...

but she's also saying "if someone is to be called weak, it's him and not me"..

Really great song, but I actually like the english lyric better... you should listen to "someone else's story" : )

  • It's sung by a woman who has lost her husband to another woman, and she's wishing she could go back and influence her younger self to make different decisions. Try searching it with Kerry Ellis singing.

  • @thebandnork The Swedish version is a bit different, though. The Swedish version is more about how bad the guy has treated her. In this version, she's the one who the husband meets and leaves his wife for

  • @sannaols5582 Ooh, I ment she's the one who the guy who plays chess meets and leaves his wife for, hehe

  • @sannaols5582 oh okay, I had no idea. That's a really interesting switch. I'm not sure if I like it that way, but that's probably just because I saw it first the other way. :)

  • @thebandnork Just to be clear here, when I said that she sings about how bad the guy has treated her, then I mean her husband who she leaves when she meets the guy sitting there with her in the clip. LOL, sounds even more confusing now

  • @thebandnork If you search for "Helen Sjöholm Josefin Nilsson Jag vet vad han vill" then you'll see the Swedish version of "I know him so well" which has also been changed. In the Swedish version they fight for the same guy.

  • @sannaols5582 Personally I didn't really like "Jag Vet Vad Han Vill". I hated Josefin Nilsson's voice and the context was absolutely ridiculous. Only redeeming value in that one was Helen's singing and the orchestration.

  • @Felicity1247 Im not a huge fan of Josefin in Chess, her solo album 'Shapes' written by Benny nad Bjorn is much better. I do like 'jag vet vad han vill' though, having the 2 women meet and fight over the guy is better than the 2 women just singing about the same guy without meeting as it was in the original. However musically the original version of I know him so well is bar far the best.

  • @discogareth Really? I thought a cat fight was getting a little too petty. The irony in the original is that each woman thinks that Anatolij needs the other.

  • @Felicity1247 I just think that the swedish title of 'I know what he wants' and the words exchanged between them would be what might really happen in a real life situation like this. The original song works well within the context of the original show, and I think the Swedish version works within the context of the Swedish show. I dont think you could ever substitute one for the other. Thats one of the good things about Chess, so many different versions, always plenty to discuss!

  • @discogareth I personally just don't like cat fights in general, even if they work in the context. But you are right--they work in their own contexts. And the different versions are interesting to discuss.

Do you have an account on fansofhelen.weebly?

  • @Felicity1247 I had not heard of this website, thank you so much! I have just registered. I am DiscoGareth so I may see you in the forum. Thank you again for directing me to this wonderful site!

  • Jag älskar den här låten och jag älskar Helen Sjöholm! Vilken bra kvalité på klippet också!

  • This is the finest version of this song I've ever heard. Have been in Chess twice and this knocks the socks of anything performed in the UK

  • wow that is definately the best version i've seen of this song! what amazing control! i'm performing it in a bit, and this has really helped me see the real performance of it. well done!

  • Like this better in Swedish:)

  • Love her voice.

  • Älskar Helen Sjöholms röst...om det finns änglar så hoppas jag de sjunger som hon. =) *rysa*

  • one of the best songs of Chess

  • She is incredible. Do yourself a favor and check out other clips from the Swedish production. It also has Anders Ekborg as the American. I would love to get my hands on the full DVD of the production

  • I agree with all the positive comments. This lady has a beautiful voice, and although I don't understand one word of swedish, it seems she has perfect diction, and I'm sure the words are crystal clear to anyone who does.

  • Oo yes, je speeks (sings) wonderful swedish!

  • Å, denne svenske versjonen med Helen Sjöholm er så ufattelig fin!

  • By the way this version is called "Inte jag", which means "Not me".

  • The guy besde her is Tommy Korberg ad he is amazing too.

  • Beautiful

  • I had never heard of Helen Sjoholm before searching Youtube for this song - I have to say I'm so glad I did - she has an AMAZING voice! Absolutely exquisite!!

  • I hadn't heard this song before I watched the Swedish "Chess" on tv. Because it wasn't on the English version of the album. It's such a beautiful song, and Helen Sjöholm is just amazing! She's the best vocalist in Sweden, no doubt about it!

  • It wasn't on the original English CD because it was written for the Broadway production.

  • WOW! She is fabulous, such a simple, perfectly poignant quality to her voice. The language doesn't matter; she get it across! Who is she and where can get a recording of this?

  • It's Helen Sjöholm she is one of or maybe the best singer in Sweden, in swedish this song is called - "Inte jag"

    She have a perfect voice!

  • If you think she´s great here, then you must look at the clips from "kristina från duvemåla"

  • Speechless. Bravo.

  • I have listened to this so many times now - I don't understand the Swedish, although I know the English version, but her voice is just so beautiful! It's so lovely to listen to.

  • Helen Sjöholm is the best!

  • I have always been a fan of Chess. I have to say, this woman is an amazing actress!!! I don't even understand Swedish but her voice and her acting make me teary eyed. Beautiful. Absolutely breathtaking!!!

  • Oh, i love chess!

  • Some one has the lyrics of this beautiful song? I´m learning swedish I just love it, and where I live there is not a school for it, so I train my ear with songs! can anyone help me please?

  • you can search for "inte jag lyrics" on google:)

  • Endelig! Har lett etter denne videoen/sangen på svensk. Takker og bukker:)

  • She is very good- nice rich, full voice. AND yes, the addition of the song the Broadway version was THE ONLY redeeming quality- otherwise it was purely awful compared to the London one.

  • what?? you two are STILL being mean??? calling someone a poisoned midget is not mature, i'm sorry.

  • Agreed! Elaine Paige is one of the greats from US!! Fantastic range and belting!

  • This was not an original song in the London production. It was added for the Broadway version with Judy Kuhn. Elaine, therefore, never sung it. She recently recorded it for her Essential Musicals album. Let's also remember that Chess was written with Elaine in mind for the part of Florence and she played the part to critical acclaim for a year.

  • Just an addition.. Chess was written as a work in progress, a ton of songs and musical themes was written originally, and it was always intended to contain the opportunity of changing the story slightly every time it was done anew. Actually the story was changed dramatically when Björn and Benny decided to redo it in Sweden. In that version the story streched only over the tournament in Merano and many musical changes were made. But to sum it up: Chess is an ever evolving story..

  • My god..she is much better than the original London or Broadway cast. Certainly way better than Elaine (poisoned midget) Paige ever was.

  • Sjukt jäkla duktigt! She's the best.

  • HON ÄR BÄST!!

  • wow!

  • The way Helen's emotions shine through each word is heartbreaking! And since I have seen both her version in English and Swedish , I can truly say she is a gifted lady! What a great singer!

  • Heja Helen! :) I saw Chess in Sweden twice and it was an amazing experiment. I sat on the first row the second time and saw all of their facial expressions - wonderful but you could really see how much makeup they had on :)

  • Carlos. . . that's not entirely true :O :P. I don't know if you're Swedish or Scandinavian or whatever, but "shoe-holm" isn't really the pronounciation. To answer pianoboy's question, since I'm Swedish. I dunno how easy it'd be for an english-native person to pronounce it. The first two consonants "Sj" are pronounced like "Sh" like in "Shanghai" but more harsh, more like the German "Ch" in "Achtung". Somewhere in between "Sh" and "Ch" is "Sj" I'd say.

  • Hhhhreholm? That's how I'd pronounce it... but then again, I'm not Swedish... lol

  • The "ö" is a scandinavian/swedish letter, which sounds pretty much like the "ea" in "Learn" or like "Je" (I) in French. And then "Holm", the vowel, a short O is here pronounced like the "a" in "Saw" but very short, like a short stutter almost. So the complete pronounciation would be something like , to try to write it somewhat phonetically; "Sh/Cheuhalm", to give it some kind of english correlation. The vowels are short, the "Sj" is heavy, far back in your mouth. "Cheuhalm" , American English.

  • Also her first name, "Helen", in Swedish, the stress is not on the first E but on the second. Which I guess might seem kinda weird to english folks? :O:D:P. "Heleen". Not "ee" like in "weee" but, like the "ee" in "queer". Long e. So it's, "Heleen Cheuhalm". :O:D:P

  • It's pronouced "Shoe-holm" (Yes, like the thing you wear on your feet). Literal translation: sjo: Lake or sea. Holm: Small wooded island.

  • Me too. She's truly amazing.

  • I wish that I'd seen it irl.

  • Could someone please give a phonetic pronunciation of Helen's surname?? To non scandinavians its a bit intimidating!

  • It's somewhat difficult to explain, but if you search for "Du är min man" and click the first clip, the first thing he says is her name. :) Hope that helps!

  • Wow - I love this in the origial language. It sounds very natural and strong. Who is the singer..she is a wonderful actoress

  • Helen Sjöholm, she's very famous here in Sweden. And I agree with you, she sings it like it was true! o_o

  • is the character of Svetlana in the original performance? Or is Florence suppose to sing this song?

  • This song is usually Florence's - that was the case when the song was added for the Broadway production.

  • She is beautiful, and she offers an amazingly textured interpretation of this song. The guy who mentioned her hair doesn't get the story. This is flawless -- a moment of incredible reflection, realization and resignation by a woman who is used to having it all together, all the time.

  • She has a clear, beautiful voice, and acts the emotion of the song very well. It's too bad she doesn't wash her hair once in a while. Those greasy straggly locks make my lunch come up in my mouth.

  • Bästa Musikalen än så länge ! Blir svår att slå !

  • Nehepp, men det är ju olika vad man tycker =)

  • faaaaaaaaan hon sjunger för jävlans fint. u go sjöholm!

( oh yeah, she rock's i just said :P XD)

  • Helen Sjöholm is really amazing! (förmodligen bästa sångerskan i hela Sverige!)

  • I hela Sverige? I don't know if I'd go quite that far.

  • has the video of Helen Sjoholm singing Nobody's Side been taken down? i know it was on youtube a few months ago. it is truly one of the most amazing performances i've ever seen; i'd love to be able to watch it again.

  • No, it's still on the site.

  • i can't find it any where! could you help me out? no keywords that i try work, and i don't have the link anymore.

  • Oh, my mistake, it has been taken down.

  • Vocally, she didn't amaze me. But the emotion she conveys is definitely amazing.

  • Awesome.

  • WOW!

  • You know, even though I scarcely understand a word she is saying this, this is one of my favourite videos. Helen Sjoholm is INCREDIBLE. The emotion she conveys, it's just staggering. YouTube is great, innit?

  • Outstanding. Gorgeous!!

  • Excellent! I love her, and this is much better than the CD version.

  • Helen Sjöholm is just incredible!!

  • Perhaps you did it on purpose but i just wanted to suggest that you write "someone" as one word. Otherwise it won't appear in searches for "someone else's story". Thanks for the post by the way. I will definetely buy the dvd.

  • She is a godess.

  • :) Its really cool to hear it in different languages. And she has a gorgeous voice.
